Great tips here. I often find myself more annoyed by my digital desktop clutter than the physical clutter on my desk. Making a habit of sweeping your digital desktop can prevent a lot of headaches as it just clears your mind to look at a clean background.
Isopropyl Alcohol is not the same as Ethanol (drinking alcohol)
you really don't want to drink isopropyl, the kind in most witch hazel
mouth wash typically has ethanol or a less lethal alcohol
Thank you! As much as everyone wants to paint extreme couponing as "hoarding" I've seen a lot of people on the show do it to donate to the troops or for other charitable reasons. So, I agree with your point. The whole self-clearing thing I agree with and I can see how that is problematic. But I do think people have to be more charitable when looking at extreme couponing. Take it with a grain of salt but it saves a lot of people, without a lot of money, a lot of money.
No, I haven't had any luck refinancing with any of the other approved banks with Credit Sesame, even though they did try to give it another shot. The only bank willing to look at it is the bank that currently holds the mortgage, but even they want me to be in a much worse position, financially.
It's actually my only home, I don't have any investment properties.
Good tips, but they don't always apply when the house guests are family. When my mother visits she prefers to sleep on the pull out couch in the living/family room, rather than the guest room because she likes to be in the middle of it all. Then she has her suitcases, pills, clothes all over the place and to top it off, likes to sleep until 10:00am. It's hard to keep two kids quiet and out of the main play area while she sleeps. This is my favorite houseguest that I like to have visit, but I also like to see her go, especially now that she travels with her boyfriend.
Good article about simple things that can make a meaningful impact to your health. Even following a few tips from this article can make a big difference to your waistline and general mood.
Absolutely! You have to expose your kids to many things to see what excites them. It teaches them, learning the piano, discipline, dedication, results, possibly a life long skill, appreciation of music, and, yes, math. You begin to see a correlation between music and math, and they both begin to make sense. Sometimes it is not the "result" that benefits but the journey to get there.
Sooo let me get this straight, you're angry at him because he forced you to buy his product? Was it at gunpoint?
I was in the food vending business to attempt to pay for college when I was in highschool. The profit margins are skewed considerably. I noticed a 85% profit margin selling snow cones and that was just after paying for JUST SUPPLIES.
After paying employees, taxes, fuel fees, electricity, water, space fees, certification fees, vendor fees, etc. I had it figured that I had to do $11,000 worth of business to break even. And, when you consider that my overhead costs were approximately $18,500, you can start to see that this wasn't an easy task.
After two summers, I finally broke even. The third summer, I made about $14,000. Three hard summers that I worked 50+ hour weeks eventually made me $14,000 and that is when I got out of the business while I still could. It was a great learning experience for high school, but vendors who provide a product not pre-made at a bottling company are not getting rich by any means.
If I could go back and do it all over again I would get a regular job. It was more work than it was worth, and I provided a product to people that were not appreciative what I did at all. You really have to try and do it yourself to conceive what goes into it. I would encourage all the ignorant haters to consider things from other perspectives before you gripe. Educate yourselves before you hate, and then decide if it's worth it.
Not to follow your dreams is to compromise. Any time you justify and rationalize away what your heart shows you is your unique path to joy you are short circuiting your own happiness and fulfillment.
Gathering tips on how to tackle your student loan debt is a good strategy! You get an awareness over your finances and you learn from someone else's experience!
I know this article is a bit old-ish, but just wanted to say that the benefits of garlic are not just "Old wives tales". My family has used garlic in our diet for generations back and we rarely get sick. The body's pH is altered by garlic, and that has the effect of killing off viral and bacterial infections. A large dose of fresh crushed garlic (as much as you can tolerate) taken at night can help detoxify the body and restore healthy function and normal cellular pH. Also it is a fact that bacteria and viruses are aerobic and anaerobic, and garlic will kill they by making the human body inhospitable to them. Sudden change in pH can kill many parasitic organisms. With all the deadly bacterial and viral infections going around these days, it is a safe bet to add fresh garlic to the diet.
The big Pharmas do not want us healing ourselves anymore as it is not profitable, and have gone to great length to kill the truth of these wonderful and natural healing substances, including passing laws to prevent their growth, sale and use, disinformation and negative propaganda, genetically modified substitutes, and so much more. I can tell you from my own personal experience that many of these natural substances were in world wide use before the "drug lords" took over and sold us their toxic and often useless "cures".
I'd add Ogg Vorbis capability. Ogg Vorbis allows for better sound in the same file size.
Also, I really want SD card, or micro-SD card, capability. External memory (SD/uSD) allows me to keep a number of audio books on the SD/uSD cards. Thus when one story ends, another is at hand. Also, audio books are generally one time listened to, or repeated at long intervals. Thus the audio books on SD/uSD cards are written to and erased many times, relative to music entries on the player. The flash memory in the player or SD/uSD cards has a relatively limited number of re-writes. I'd rather replace SD/uSD cards than players, SD/uSD cards are much cheaper.
AND? You say all of this to say what? With the way the economy is today, who's willing to spend more ridiculous prices on groceries? I know i'm not. I am a 1st college student that is working at school this summer, and having to pay for all my own living expenses for the first time is difficult (it's full of checks and balances). I can chose to go to strawberry fields and chose to pay $200-$300 a month on groceries or Aldi and spend $100 at most. Health isn't much of an option at this time in my life. Honestly if the foods are "that bad" then why don't we all eat it and sue the FDA for the cancer we'll get, cancer that we are more than likely genetically predisposed to in the first place?
Great post! Had never heard of Credit Sesame... will definitely check it out. Have you had any luck getting a refinance program that works for investment properties? I wasn't sure in your post if the home you were trying to refi was an investment? Thanks
My biggest challenge deals with my sporadic income. I work as an independent contractor and have a contract that comes around once a quarter. It pays really well, but I only work 1-2 months and have the intervening time with no income. So it's a matter of saving when the checks come in to cover the non-work times.
What has worked for me is to go through the house and collect all of one particular category, for example, papers, or in Debbie's example, t-shirts. Then I can see how many and what types I have. I then purge and decide where to store the rest of that category.
Paying for healthcare, deductible is $3,000.00 then 15% co-pay in network up to $9,000.00 out of pocket each year, prescriptions vary I pay 30, 40 or 50% after meeting 3K deductible plus I pay over $123.00 every two weeks for the hubby and me, dental coverage is additional and no vision coverage. Saving for retirement and trying to take care of home that is 33 years old. Last but not least paying our property taxes each year.
I think the shuffle is great and a great value. Especially for non-tech people like older generations. My parents for example just throw the music on it and the don't have to worry about it. Just plays music and that is usually what they want.
Some companies require you to apply online so you're "in the system". You don't have a choice. So your only options are to 1) customize your resume for that particular position, and 2) write a cover letter that show how you match the requirements of the position with your experience and skills.
Hi Elizabeth,
I can't see that applying toxins to the body like Deet would be an alternative to getting bit by a mosquito. Anything natural that will repel mosquitoes is worth a look. I used dryer sheets rubbed directly onto the body before, it seemed to work for me.
I agree that the team is the most important element. Investors don't bet on ideas or products. They bet on people, and their ability to execute.
Financial projections are nice, but any good finance guy (your own, or for hire) can build a plan that makes the company cash-flow positive after a year or two. Investors always take these projections with a grain of salt. Most of the business plans I've seen as an advisor to start-ups are over-optimistic.

Great points here to consider when being a house guest. I make it a point to be as courteous as possible when staying somewhere even in a hotel room.

Excellent article -- good to see some of the finer points of etiquette discussed. It's a lost art!
