One example of me doing more with less is simply turning off and unplugging electronics and appliances. Sometimes people forget and it adds up to the costs. As time goes by, spending a few little seconds on turning appliances off can really make a difference and save more money, more money to spend on stuff I want! I only turn things on when I need to! I really want to win this phone!
My husband, baby girl, and I moved from our own house to his parents' house recently. We all have less space and privacy now, but we spend MUCH more time together, share the bills, and spend less time cleaning (since there are 4 of us to clean now instead of just two)!
By getting divorced, I rid myself from a 230 pound man who ruined my credit and left me with debts. It has taken me years to recover from this financial disaster. My recommendations: Do not marry and make sure that this person does not convince you to use your credit to purchase items for him/her because his credit is shot and tries to convince you that he/she will make the payments. You will end up cleaning up the mess. After we divorced, I couldn't even cosign for a student loan for my son. As you can see, our children pay the consequences also.
As a financial advisor what I tell clients is that the main purpose of a life insurance policy is to provide a death benefit. Whether term, some sort of permanent life insurance, or a combination of the two is most appropriate depends on a number of factors including the insured's age, income/cash flow, their stage of life, and how long they anticipate needing the coverage. Permanent insurance can have its place. I do agree that purchasing life insurance as an investment vehicle is generally a poor idea.
I'm more than glad to patronize locally owned businesses, but the bottom line is that I shop where I'm going to get the best price, selection, and service. On the one hand I buy a lot of groceries and related household items at Sam's because their prices are hard to beat. On the other hand by far the best appliance store is locally owned and I go out of my way to buy appliances and electronics there. I'm a small business person and I want to see other local small business people succeed. However, nobody is cutting me any sort of break because I am small and local, they retain my services because they feel that I am qualified to meet their financial advice needs. Likewise as a consumer I am going to shop where my needs are best met whether that retailer is a national chain or a locally owned business.
Dropping cablevision simplified my life. Without the tv addiction (I shut down when the tv turns on), I now knit, visit with friends, send actual paper letters to friends, and have a cleaner home.
Frugal or not, I love my kindle, all the classics are free. Well, I suppose it depends on what you do with your kindle, I believe it's great for kids who have a bit of trouble with reading, it builds vocabulary quickly thanks to the dictionary and the text to speech option enables them to read along, which builds sight word skills. People with vision disabilities also benefit greatly due to the text to speech option AND you can easily increase the text size. (try that with a book) and on average, new releases are cheaper on the kindle and plus, there is my own category, English as a second language readers like myself, I really enjoy reading books with the kindle, looking up words in a separate dictionary is not necessary anymore and keeps me reading fluently without annoying "word search" breaks.
I worked in a hotel for four months, and at least at my chain, members of our loyalty program were treated much better than other guests. If you're making a reservation in advance, take the five extra minutes to sign up, even if you never plan on staying with the chain again. Hotel chains try to hook you in by offering points for your stays, but the real reward is the better service you'll receive. Guests in our program were given the better rooms and the management bent over backwards to make sure members' stays were pleasant because any complaints could be taken to the loyalty program, resulting in possible fines for my hotel.
I do more in my closet with less space by using shelving products and boxes to maximize the space I do have by making it organized and allowing room for more products.
I would love to win! I am busy looking after my large family. With so many varying activities, I could use this amazing phone to keep us all organized. It would help me get more done in less time.
I use coupons, check the store ads for sales, and buy markdowns. I compost vegetable scraps and fall leaves. I combine as many errands as I can on a trip out to save time, gas and energy.
Gator,
nice to hear from you again, man. Thanks for the appreciation, but, credit where it's due, Zorcy is the REAL expert here. But we can all learn a little bit from each other, I suppose. You have gallons upon gallons of jacked stuff stockpiled? You REALLY have got a head-start on it whenever you build a still........! Cheers, mate!
Our family rarely eats out, and I pack my kids' lunches. I use coupons as much as possible, and I leave extra coupons in the store (by the item) for other consumers to use.
Yes, #19 happened to me. I landed a 90 day temp to hire job. My supervisor, Linda (not her real name), praised my work and assured me the job was mine permanently. Halfway through the 90 days, Linda quit without notice. I sensed an immediate shift. No one knew what to do with me. I was told to continue on, "for now", but there were meetings behind closed doors. I wanted desperately to stay, but I didn't get to. "Now that Linda has left, we've decided to move in a different direction." Standard kiss-off phrase.
I can agree with all the obvious signs that a firing is looming. For me, it was more subtle. It began with a sudden feeling of distrust in my boss. Nothing had happened to cause this, it was just my gut feeling.

We also added a toilet in the laundry room to have an extra "bathroom" in the basement. It gives us more options with 5 of us working with less space.

Also you can try making money from your hobby. Sports related collection is popular on Ebay.

doing more with less could mean budgeting and adhering to it. It allows us to save properly and spend wisely
I try to do more with less by buying things for the house that are multi-purpose. Less clutter and wallet friendly!

I love this round up - great Thanksgiving reading. Thanks!

I'm staying home and resting. I'll get on my recumbent bike in a few. I have no ambition to fight crowds to spend money I don't have.

I do more with less by multitasking.
I do more with less redundancy by syncing my files using Windows Live Mesh.

Always, always trust your instincts.
"Free" means $0.00 in my opinion. Not $2.00 and up, as at Amazon's!
Use your vertical space!! Look at your closets and general home area in which there is a ton of space between the floor and ceiling that isn't used. Get stack-able boxes (http://www.containerstore.com/shop/closet/cubesBins?productId=10000531&N...) or install several shelves (http://www.containerstore.com/shop/shelving/ladoroShelving) to make sure you make the most out of a space (ESPECIALLY a storage space!)
