Caffeine boils at 178 deg C. Looking at an article, you have to use ethyl acetate. You would distill it off and then use vacuum to get rid of the rest and leave caffeine behind. I had hoped it would distill out, but can not find how to get it to come thru yet. I will keep looking into it, could be an interesting drink.
I used a pack of instant coffee, a triple shot of smooth vodka and a shot of very cold heavy creme in a drink. I was getting sleepy from too much juice. So I used this to wake me up some during a party at the house.
I need a little tech advice. Using your a 2" reflux tower:
I had a successful first batch, but I think I did not finish it off to get as much as I could out of the batch. I measured it closely as it was coming.
It started coming at 172 degrees (we are at 900 feet). I caught 1/2 a cup of the first stuff. Heads ?
It jumped and staid at 173/174 for a long time. I got about 3/4 of a gallon . It was reading 90/92 % area on the alcohol meter.
The temp started climbing a little, not much and the percentage started dropping slowly . I could notice a slight smell and taste difference as it dropped to 85%..
Then the temps started rising slowly. I INCREASED THE WATER FLOW TO KEEP IT AT, OR NEAR, 174 degrees. The Alcohol % continued to drop slowly. At the point that it was still giving 50%, the oder and taste and slightly cloudy look, suggested perhaps carmelized sugar.
I let the wine clear by settling for 2 weeks. It was a little yellowish still.
Those are the facts.

2. Should I have increased the water flow to keep the temp at 174, until I got only water?

5. If I was not supposed to increae the water flow as the temps climbed from 174 to 190, should I have let it run it course all the way to water only, and reprocessed that product?

I find that taking care of the more menial computer jobs seem to go over the best. My mother is very computer literate, she just doesn't know how to fully utilize her computer to make her life more organized and streamlined.
One way to save money on bulk items like beans, oatmeal, dry milk etc. is to look into buying at a local LDS warehouse store. A friend of mine told me about this and I recently got dry milk for 1/4th the cost of the next cheapest place I could find. The prices on their other items are also exceptional. I asked a (formerly) Mormon friend about why the prices were so cheap and she thought the church subsidized the food. You can find out if you have one near you by looking at the LDS website - make sure to call ahead, the one in our area only sells to the public on Tuesdays.
Also factor in the cost of gas when going out of your way for deals to see if its still a deal. I remember reading (back when gas was $2 a gallon) that the actual cost per mile for driving your car is $.50 per mile figuring in insurance, maintenance, cost of your car etc. So although this is an indirect way to save money on food it still saves money overall.
Let people know that you are looking for fruit trees to pick from. When we did this we got several people offering to let us pick from their trees. Most people don't want the food to go to waste even if they aren't using it themselves. If we are picking from elderly or disabled people's trees we of course always pick enough for them too. If you leave the yard nicer than when you started you will both benefit from this arrangement.

I used a pack of instant coffee, a triple shot of smooth vodka and a shot of very cold heavy creme in a drink. I was getting sleepy from too much juice. So I used this to wake me up some during a party at the house.

I need a little tech advice. Using your a 2" reflux tower:
I had a successful first batch, but I think I did not finish it off to get as much as I could out of the batch. I measured it closely as it was coming.
It started coming at 172 degrees (we are at 900 feet). I caught 1/2 a cup of the first stuff. Heads ?
It jumped and staid at 173/174 for a long time. I got about 3/4 of a gallon . It was reading 90/92 % area on the alcohol meter.
The temp started climbing a little, not much and the percentage started dropping slowly . I could notice a slight smell and taste difference as it dropped to 85%..
Then the temps started rising slowly. I INCREASED THE WATER FLOW TO KEEP IT AT, OR NEAR, 174 degrees. The Alcohol % continued to drop slowly. At the point that it was still giving 50%, the oder and taste and slightly cloudy look, suggested perhaps carmelized sugar.
I let the wine clear by settling for 2 weeks. It was a little yellowish still.
Those are the facts.

QUESTIONS
1. At what % do you stop the process ?
2. Should I have increased the water flow to keep the temp at 174, until I got only water?
3. From the time the percentage dropped below 85%.....is that the "TAILS" ? To go into the next batch for 'reprocessing?
4. Will that taste and oder be removed in the next batch?
5. If I was not supposed to increae the water flow as the temps climbed from 174 to 190, should I have let it run it course all the way to water only, and reprocessed that product?
6. Should I have cleaned the wine better?
As you can see, I am a little confused about the water regulation thing. Any help and answers to my questions would be appreciated.

I have been homebrewing for 3 years now and second the recommendation to get flip top bottles. Also, consider 22oz bottles, half the work at bottling time. Consider taping up your carboys with clear packing tape so that if you drop it or somehow break it, you don't risk serious injury. I dropped one of mine and know several people who have had serious injuries from broken carboys. Finally, consider brewing a stout or porter for your next brew. If you aren't able to keep the beer below 50 (f) for at least 6 weeks, lagers may not bet the best choice.

One way to save money on bulk items like beans, oatmeal, dry milk etc. is to look into buying at a local LDS warehouse store. A friend of mine told me about this and I recently got dry milk for 1/4th the cost of the next cheapest place I could find. The prices on their other items are also exceptional. I asked a (formerly) Mormon friend about why the prices were so cheap and she thought the church subsidized the food. You can find out if you have one near you by looking at the LDS website - make sure to call ahead, the one in our area only sells to the public on Tuesdays.
Also factor in the cost of gas when going out of your way for deals to see if its still a deal. I remember reading (back when gas was $2 a gallon) that the actual cost per mile for driving your car is $.50 per mile figuring in insurance, maintenance, cost of your car etc. So although this is an indirect way to save money on food it still saves money overall.
Let people know that you are looking for fruit trees to pick from. When we did this we got several people offering to let us pick from their trees. Most people don't want the food to go to waste even if they aren't using it themselves. If we are picking from elderly or disabled people's trees we of course always pick enough for them too. If you leave the yard nicer than when you started you will both benefit from this arrangement.

For most water weight is the first to lose, and most diets can claim success on weight loss per that.... though some dont get it.
Personally, I consider atkins not a fully blown good idea longtem.
But shortterm I would say that whatever works for a person is fine.
In my own case (family that is), atkins is no-no and wont be done by wife or myself.
Fact is most of the real evidence about it working comes from inhouse (to atkins) experts and virtually no 'real' independent proof.
The last time i saw a 'proof' effort the main experts were actually atkins own researchers... the host (former politician) apparently neglected to tell eveyrbody that.
Never ever take the word of anybody who actualy works for a diet product as 'yes it works' ...
However mysisnlaw did lose wieght, but as I advised her that it would only be good shortterm.. . most people cant do atkins long term.
Me I did plain ole classic... diet.
No pop, portions, exercise, natural food (nuts,etc)... fruit (reasonable).etc.

I use iTrackmine.com because even though its not all flashy with the (useless and frustrating) barcode scanner, it tells me what i've already got and what all my friends have. With all the other info I need too. And it's free...why would I pay for these apps when they make tons of money off me from all their affiliate links and ads (oh, and weird thing about iTrackmine is that I haven't found any ads yet...maybe they'll add some in the future).
I shop the along the walls of the supermarket where all of the real food is, not processed boxes of unpronouncable ingredients. I am using my slow cooker more and also cooking more on the weekends so that I have leftovers for the busier week days. I have a ceraminc travel mug in which I take my morning tea to work. I make homemade muffins or banana bread for breakfast or the lunch box. Cooking from scratch and buying dry ingredients in bulk helps me stay within my budget.
I can relate to the comment made, about not being smart working in retail and looking stupid in front of the customer. Well, today I worked in retail like I do every Saturday. This is my second job. I work in education and work all week in an elementary school. (Most people think this is my only job); and most customers look for me during the week. I don't make enough money and attending college part-time trying to better myself. I felt bad because one woman must have already been having a bad day; "today I had a woman tell me; to get a different job, because she responded rudely after I asked her for her phone number because our store is changing their rewards and discount card to another one. She asked rudely herself, "why are you asking me for my phone number"? I told her that the store needs her number to get additional points for future purchases. I must have had a bad tone in my voice by the end of the day; because after I apologized a couple of times. She said, "yeh, right". It helped, when two people in line said, " she was terrible to me and I wasn't being rude.
So be careful the customer is always right, no matter what.
I just checked out the organic watchdog ratings from the Cornucopia Institute that Jeremy mentioned and Horizon got a 0 out of 5 cows. I'm switching to Organic valley, which got a 4.
