um like the old saying if somebody told you to jump off a cliff would you?? dont blame other people because you jacked your phone up trying these tricks. as with anything on this planet, its gonna work for some and not for others. don't try it if your worried its gonna mess your phone up.
Net Spend is just another snail mail spammer. Any company useing this marketing stratagy creates a negative impact. They get my Deceptycon award for the month. Net Spend will not be using this mail advertisement practice in the near future.
I use to work for a company that told people that they can get their interest rates reduced. IT WAS A TOTAL SCAM!! I got so sick of listening and watching the company rip people off that I quit. Now I am developing a website to blow this whole operation open so other would-be victims will be warned. I will publish it and post the site here soon. It will outline how to tell if you have been scammed and who to get help from if you were a victim.
If you want your rates lowered, just call your card company and tell them what you want. Often times, if you have a hardship, they will transfer you to the "hardship department" and they will listen to your problems and then offer you a lowered rate. It might be a temporarily fixed interest or a lowered adjustable rate. Anyway, you should never have to pay $990 for something you can do on your own. I got Capital One to lower my rate and I paid my card off so much sooner.
Also, if you have any kind of way to generate additional income, pay it to your card companies but leave something for yourself. Too many people give the card companies every dime they have and sometimes drain their little bit of savings. Then they have nothing to use and no cash reserved in case of an emergency. If there is no available credit for emergencies because the cards are charged up, and you gave them everything you had so you have no cash... then you are stuck. However, if you paid what you can, and made consistent payments but put money aside for yourself each month.. then you have cash to depend on instead of trying to use more interest-bearing credit to handle your emergency.
I realize that for people with 5 figures of debt or even large 4 figure sums of debt, my recommendation might not be practical. However, no matter how much debt you have... never let anyone charge you money on your credit card for service that you can easily and quickly provide for yourself.
when they give you options on the phone, just push any button or do the "stay on the line and someone will assist you" option.
even if its the wrong dept. they can transfer you.
Your article and the following comments really struck a chord with me. I work heaps of hours at a casual job because I'm trying to get a small biz up & running; I'm also incredibly frugal. Most people at that job are students who live with their parents, hence work little & spend heaps. Previously, I could feel their wonder at the fact that I worked so much and didn't "blow" it all; now i can defend myself with the biz story, and they think I'm ok.
Freeloading also really bothers me. I don't drive, and coworkers have offered (And have) dropped me home sometimes, when they don't need to make detours. I know it doesn't affect their driving or fuel expense, but I feel guilty. I cant offer them homemade cookies, because then the others at work would feel left out - and I don't want to bake cookies for the whole office (it's a really huge office!). Plus, I don't want them to think I'm "paying" them since that might be offensive to them (they incurred no extra cost to drop me off on their ride home).
Ugh... I hate freeloading but I love sharing... thanks Philip for your take on the benefits of sharing, also.
One of the comments said that some of the advice in this article is "false and misleading"--specifically, about the use of lower-octane gasoline in modern cars.
The best automotive journalist I have run into in the U.S. is Ed Wallace of Dallas. He has won some serious awards for his work, and writes for major magazines as well as appearing weekly on radio and television.
Ed has covered this gasoline octane business many times. Last I heard, his personal car was a very nice Infiniti which the manufacturer claims needs premium fuel. Ed uses regular, with no problems at all-and advises others to do the same. This is after extensive inquiry with automotive engineers from many companies.
At one time, it was true that engines were highy optimized for a particular grade of gasoline. With computer control of engine functions today, the difference is minuscule--far less than the difference in costs you are pouring into your gas tank.
Those saying this article is "nasty", I'm afraid, really do have a deficit in their sense of humor. Personally, I "got it" that this was satire, and enjoyed it immensely.
I never knew this fact before, thanks for those genius who found this. But I have my secret way to get deep discount deals from amazon.com - try amazon discount codes center.
I've never run into any problems with Papa Murphy's and I know someone who works there. Everything is fresh. At least at the one here in town it is. They make their own dough fresh every day, shred the cheese themselves. Tomatoes, onions, green peppers, spinach, etc. is all cut fresh, by hand. Most places here don't deliver, and whenever I get delivery it's always luke warm and a lot of times the dough isn't even cooked all the way. Guess it all depends on the management and whoever owns the Papa Murphy's where you live.
The point of this article is to inform others since it seems like a lot of other people were confused and upset that they received an unrequested REAL debit card. I get fake credit cards from companies all the time, but they are obviously fake and it is not a big deal. This card had an unique number and is almost ready for use. So I would say that there is a difference between this "promotion" and other spam.
I've always wondered how this works, thank you. It's clearly not for me, seeing as how I average 20,000+ miles/year, but I'm glad it's available for others to take advantage of.
And just because it's bugging me, it's err on the side of caution, not air.
I, like many others, received an unrequested NetSpend Visa in today's mail. I called to inquire about why I received this card without my consent and spent 15 minutes going back-and-forth in their automated call center hell.
My hope is that they'll be out of business relatively soon.
Stay in a "fancy" hotel. No complimentary breakfast, no fridge or microwave, no coffee maker in the room but they sell Starbucks in the lobby, $10.50 for a liter of bottled water in the room (no kidding), and let's not even start with room service. It is cool to stay in a swanky place at least once or twice in your life, but for everyday travel & vacations, go for the business-class hotel and always try to find a place that serves the free breakfast.
Although I appreciate that some people will seize any opportunity to write that lazy Americans should get-off-their-asses and cut up the unsolicited cards, they miss the point. I am tired of being sent stuff I didn't request and having to take time to deal with the issues.
I received a card yesterday with someone else's name on it. Knowing NOTHING about this company, I spent some time trying to decide if 1) I needed to return the card to its rightful owner, 2) run a credit check on every member of my family to see if our identities had been stolen and/or 3) make up the guest bedroom for the stranger who is apparently preparing to move in with us.
Fortunately, I found this site and now know that I can shred the card since it was just another meaningless piece of junk sent by a financial "services" company, with no product to sell and lots of greedy little piggy-people feeding at its trough. Maybe, if it cost more to send this junk out, netSpend would target their potential market more thoughtfully.
This is the company that operates in Ottawa. Unfortunately, you have to be 23 years old to join. One more year to go!
I was really interested because it would be great for doing groceries a couple of times per week, and also when I want to go see my parents who aren't far at all, but public transportation doesn't get there.
I understand why they put an age restriction; but still, its a bit annoying.
I think it's pretty low for 1 person's bad experience at their local Papa Murphy's to try to cut all stores down just because their particular store isn't functioning up to standards. Sounds like you work for their competitor.
We couldn't be more pleased with our own local store. Yes, there are times they experience high volume sales they weren't anticipating but they always go above and beyond to make us all happy in the end. People are so impatient now-a-days. If it isn't a regular occurance, there can always be extenuating circumstances. I know that I've gone into our local store to find it packed and the owners unavailable. People treated the employees pretty poorly when they were doing the best they could to get us all taken care of. Come to find out there was a death in the family and the owners had to leave unexpectedly. How can a customer expect things to always go perfectly. Things happen.
I know for a fact that their cheese is top quality and hand shredded every day. I've been in before and watched them shredding it. Their large pepperoni has 60 slices and their Family has 80 slices. Try getting the same quality at a Little Caesars of Papa Johns. You take your pizza home and it's hot when you're ready to eat and it doesn't taste like cardboard. I've spent over $80 for 3 pizzas at Round Table but never over $30 at Papa Murphy's. Sometimes you have to wait longer because their volume of sales is higher than the competitions but that tells you volumes about their cost and quality.
I'm so tired of hearing people whine and complain now-a-days. What the heck is wrong with everyone. What happened to compassion and understanding. If your local store isn't that great my apologies that you don't have the same owners we have running your store. Don't screw it up for the rest of us though.
There's a reason they've won 6 years in a row now as the #1 pizza chain in America. I can't afford to be without our local store in this economy. They make it possible for me to still be able to afford to get my kids pizza now-a-days. They even take Food Stamps! Try to find any other fast food restaurant that can!
Anyone who joins a program now in days without reading the fine print, deserves wha they get.
The greendo cards? Are you kidding me? The fees are more outlandish.
You do need to understand your fees and what is going to make sense for you. For example, if I reload at the walmart gas station near me? 2.00, speedway down the street? 5.00? See the difference?
Honestly, the fact that ppl are on here actually freaking out about "unsocilited" cards and "outlandish" fees, ebcause they were too stupid to read the fine print or to live realastically?
How about this lesson, be smart enough to know how to hold your own, if you aren't a lawyer, start thinking like one, and good luck with those green dot cards, they're pieces of trash and will cost you more to load each time than my netspend card will cost me.
Wow, this has to be one of the most pointless articles I have ever read.
What exactly is the point behind this article?
First off, many cards and notices about accounts we don't want are sent out to people every single day. Blame it on a society where getting an email address or a street address is as easy as hitting a phone book or looking into records.
You do not have to ask for something in our society to have it shoved at you.
Is it distasteful? maybe, but the majority of ppl who also didn't want this card, probably didn't activate it, cut it up, and moved on with their life.
I doubt they wrote articles about how "distasteful" and "offended" they are.
I applaud your sense of social justice but get real, what century are you living in?

The Raymond Delauney emails are pathetic compared to David Thorne. David Thorne's emails are witty and clever, Raymond just tries to hard.

what a pleasant surprise to find you included my Jon & Kate post. Thanks!
I agree it is a bit of an inconvenience.

it is best to err on the side of caution
