Just want to point, though, that when feeling hopeless and overwhelmed to the point of making stupid decisions, it may be time for a checkup to see if there is a medical problem--e.g., depression, thyroid or some other underlying cause. Sometimes the right medication and/or exercise can help a lot.
Mahalo is one of these companies that fired a lot of it's in-house staff and seems to be outsourcing to writers at a fraction of the cost. I don't think I could write for them without feeling like a scab.
My kids and I are making cards for their classes at school. I usually make a nice dinner for the family - shrimp and veggies over pasta with a good loaf of bread is one of our favorites. This year I will probably make a chocolate cherry cake with pink icing.
My husband and I celebrate our anniversary which is less than a month from valentines day. For valentines day I celebrate with the day with my girls - we make ice cream sundaes with candy hearts and read over the cards they received in class. It is a frugal and fun way to celebrate!
Hope is indeed in short supply these days. Poor financial decisions are often (IMO) a form of self medication. Spending feels good temporarily. You know the term - retail therapy.

You can wordle a special poem or favorite love song lyrics or maybe even wedding vows. The more times a word is mentioned, the larger it appears in the wordle. This could be a really touching gift and is very personal...all you have to do is create, then press the print button--and wrap it up!
Get a little journal that you can write, draw and stick in photos of the special moments that have happened between the two of you or something wonderful that your significant other did that made you smile. When it is full, it can be a nice keepsake to present to your loved one and a reminder how special s/he is to you.

I am all about saving some cash in the stores. I always go to the place that uses double coupons when they are running the buy one get one free deals. You can also go to the makers website and get coupons.
My frugal tip is that I like making a heart shaped homemade pizza for Valentine's Day. It is so much cheaper than spending $40+ for an evening out. (We don't have kids so we really don't have to go out to get a little "alone" time.) Hey, maybe that should qualify as another frugal tip! (Just kidding, kids are great and worth the sacrifices.) I'd LOVE to win an iPod Touch for my husband. That would be the ultimate Valentine's Day gift.

One way to save money, and still be romantic, is having my boyfriend cook dinner at home. Lovely and memorable....and frugal.

I've never really thought about whether there are a lot of ways to be hopeless, or if being hopeless is really just one big thing.
Some people just don't know when the party is over . . .
Others don't care . . .
And still others make changes in the short run, just waiting to return to their bad habits . . .

I will make my husband's favorite meal. Then, we will light lots of candles and watch romantic movies on tv while we snuggle on the couch together.
