    ??

Let me know if you find the answer you seek about your 17 yr old, as I too have a 17yr old I claimed as a dependent but couldnt receive the earned income/child tax credit on on the 2007 return; would love to know if you only get the money on children age 16 and under or if its 17 and under.

why dont you shut up with your self rightous behind. If you dont like the high prices in NY, then move. No one made you move &/or stay there. & stop talking bad about those ppl who are poor; they aint cha problem. I get tired of the welfare mothers with 3-7 kids; with 3-7 different fathers; that live off of welfare just as much as the next person--btw they wont get a check.
So get ova it already. I on the otha hand will get 1800-2100$; My husband & I plus our 3 children; We neva had to be on welfare, we worked 2 jobs each to get where we are.
A great work ethic is wht we have always had--working hard neva killed anyone. U really need to come off your high horse though-- try pulling the stick out cha butt, you might make some interesting friends.

If your so high and mighty--with your: smug; "I am better than everyone else here," attitude--then maybe you should not care so much about those "getting something for nothing" ppl. My husband & I have worked hard all our lives; 2 jobs each from time to time, never got on welfare; good old ass busting, is all we done.
So what-- why do you have to be such an ass to those ppl who havent figured out how to do that yet? oh wait, you dont. You just want to degrade them to make yourself feel better is all. May the good Lord take away from your smug-conceided backside & give it to those whom work hard, yet cant seem to get ahead. I can understand you being upset about those who do sit on their ass-having babies left & right without a jobs; grouping them all together is unneccessary though. I am glad the good Lord gave me the good sense & work ethic to make a great living for our children. as for you--I hope you get off your high horse & realize that some of those poor ppl do their best. & SINCE YOU WANT TO BIATCH ABOUT NY & ITS HIGH COST--WHY NOT MOVE, & STOP COMPLAINING ABOUT IT.

  • Personal Finance Lessons from Online Adventure Game (RuneScape)   18 years 17 weeks ago

I doubt that many adults looking at financial advice will find this blog, and judging by the types of comments I think more random teens who searched the same type of thing on Google that I did find they have found a recognizable rpg so they comment a bunch of stuff off task to the fact that this was to really target financial issues.

  • What is keeping you from a life of financial independence?   18 years 17 weeks ago

I like reading of your plans- we have three kids and my husband does love his job, I freelance and farm (and love both) but we have used frugality as a tool (for creativity and paying bills) in hopes that we some day soon will not NEED any job, just in case.....for those uncomfortable with the term "retirement", I suggest looking into the idea of "unjobbing". It is a good bridge between the ideas of working till you drop, or retiring early. Have fun!

  • Safeway Savings Rally - How I got 9 bags of groceries for $13   18 years 17 weeks ago

Wow! This is amazing! I've never done this type of "stacking" offers before.

I just returned from 3 Safeways (all on the way to work and within 10 minutes of where I live) and got 11 bags of groceries for $15...and still have $5 to spend tomorrow!

I should mention that I pretty much live off slow cooker meals about 6 months out of the year...so just decided to completely stock up my pantry. I did the 10 for $10 on most items...keep in mind you don't have to buy 10 of the item...you get each item for $1.

    Here's the haul:

5 whole grain rice a roni (printer on fritz so no coupon)
    5 pasta roni-Nature's way
5 boxes of cheerios (plus $$ off from coupon printed at check
    out)
    1 wesson oil
    1 colgate
    10 cans-kidney beans
    5 cans pinquitos beans
    5 cans petite cut tomatos
    5 cans basil/garlic/oregano tomatos
    7 cans santa fe beans
    5 cans white beans

You have to watch carefully when they ring everything up. I only bought enough to get the coupon...so if an item rings up incorrectly not only do you pay more but you get the lower value discount.

This happened with the Colgate. It was supposed to be $1..but came up as $2.50. I paid it and then went to customer service. They refunded it...but then I had to explain that it also meant I should have received a $10 coupon instead of $5. They gave me $5 cash and I kept the coupon and was on my way to the third store. So watch that register!

Sweet deal! I'm kinda amazed it worked...

But it's a shame to miss out on some GREAT and irreplaceable experiences like seeing Mt. Vernon. Yes, it costs, but it's worth it for the sights, sounds, smells, feelings, and sense of place. You learn things you couldn't get anywhere else, and kids won't forget it. If you want to be frugal, just stay away from the extras like the cafeteria and and the gift shop. Don't deprive yourself of unforgettable tourist and museum experiences - you've paid the cost to get there already - take advantage!

Unfortunately, the entire story is built on a false premise - that the rich pay higher tax rates than the poor. That is true if you only consider income taxes, but income taxes are not the only taxes we pay. Poor and middle class workers pay Social Security tax on all of their earnings, while the rich pay Social Security tax on only a fraction of their salaries, and none of their investment income. The poor pay more of their income in sales taxes, because they must spend more of their incomes on tangible personal property. Middle class homeowners pay real estate taxes on their homes, their largest asset, while the wealty pay no such taxes on their jewelry or investment assets. All in all, Warren Buffett calculated that he pays a smaller portion of his income in taxes than does his receptionist. He challenged any CEO of a major corporation to show that that was not true of their companies. So far, no takers.

I second the spinach in smoothies thing. Sometimes when I haven't had a lot of greens in my day, I will make myself a smoothie and stuff my blender full of spinach. Since spinach contains a lot of water, it blends down to next to nothing. You can put a lot in without actually tasting the spinach and it's very healthy :)

  • Tasty, Healthy Breakfast Cookies With Chocolate-Covered Espresso Beans   18 years 17 weeks ago

My son is allergic to egg, so we usually use flax as an egg replacer with WONDERFUL results.
    1 TBSP ground flax seed
    2-3 TBSP warm water
let sit for a little bit. This equals one egg.

I have not tried your recipe yet, but it looks great! And these would be a great way to have breakfast or snacks while on vacation without having to pay for a restaurant! :) Thanks!!

Our kids more than likely will follow us down the artistic rabbitt hole...thus far they've showed every indication. And we will totally support their endeavors...maybe we can convince our cats to be electricians....Margaret Garcia-Couoh

The poor resent anything that comes in the way of the immediate, personal gratification of any thing they want. Those that are not these things, don't stay poor.

"right wing propaganda?" really? Please point out the flaw in the argument instead of spouting nonsensical trolls.

I did point out a flaw in the argument, it wrongly assumes static prices and an improvement in standard of living.

  • Can you guess what’s in the box?   18 years 17 weeks ago

...If I were to have to live with such a snappy thing all around the globe... I would not want it to make me feel I am just some permanent utility... easy solution: I'd just draw stuff on it... but how about.... Lapland Birch ? should be sturdy as it's structure is spiralling and whirling, and organic too... possibly a bit heavier... but *organic*. And definitely has a beautiful grain if covered only in toning translucent layer of varnish.

Then *nobody* could say it is ugly... or unhealthy.

Is this really "right wing propaganda" or something worth pondering? And if this is a financial site, I would hope the topic to taxes would come up at some point. We all need to think about how the current system works, and weather it can be improved upon to have maximum benefit for everyone in this country.
