I have the tiniest kitchen I have ever seen. I love to cook and bake, so I had a lot of adjustments to make! I did a lot of the things you describe-- I have only 4 place settings, limited pots and pans, etc. The best thing I did was turn a bookshelf into a pantry! I hung curtains from a cafe rod so that all my food isn't out in the open.
Also, got several wall-mounted rods and racks from IKEA, so I have a hanging dishrack, and also hanging holders for silverware, utensils, etc. A huge help with no counters and no drawers! It takes a bit of creativity, but cooking in a small space can be done!
You can also save by wetting your body down, soaping up and then rinsing, there's no need to have the water running continuously. Can do the same with shampooing your hair, wet, turn the water off, lather and rinse. For the ladies, shave your legs at the sink, then shower. ;-)
My wife and I have been using coldwater detergent for a while now, and not only has it saved us plenty of money on our energy bill, but it's kept our clothes from fading so quickly.
I'm just amazed that the government refuses to concede there's structural deflation. It's like "nothing to see here, move along". These numbers are shocking.
This has been working great for me. I got the idea from the book Wealth Watchers by Alice Wood. It's so simple, I'm amazed I didn't think of it myself.
I disagree with much of this. In my experience, the cities have gotten bigger and the cost of real estate in areas with jobs worth having has gone though the roof.
Bigger houses? Most people I know feel forced to downsize, or can only afford to buy a small apartment, a house being way out of reach, even on double income, no kids.
Really? I don't know much about beekeeping -- I thought these were abandoned drawers. Thanks for pointing that out! I think I like the image even more now!
(And now I'm wondering, can dresser drawers be converted into bee hives?)
I agree that Under Armour and Nike are both pretty expensive. I would love some suggestions for less expensive, yet effective, gear if you have them! However, I have found that running in the right gear makes the run much more enjoyable and haven't personally spent a lot by asking for my favorite pieces from family members for Christmas and birthday gifts. I've had my go-to cold weather running outfit for at least 3 years and find that using the Under Armour as a base layer for skiing has been very useful, too.
Good ideas! Much better than squandering the extra money. I may have to automate the extra pay to go into an emergency savings account. I can't trust myself when I'm around cute shoes and outfits not to buy ... but if I never see the money, it's less of a sacrifice.
Good advice about taking advantage of new member benefits if you do decide to join a gym! My favorite running gloves are women's Nike thermal running gloves ($20 at nike.com) - mostly because they have a key pocket in the palm, which makes keeping track of your car key especially convenient. For head gear, I prefer the Under Armour Women's Arctic Beanie II ($24.99 at underarmour.com), but only if it's below 30 degrees farenheit. Otherwise, I get overheated pretty quickly. Happy running!
I actually haven't found the secret to keeping my shoes dry - fortunately, though, there are few days in my city where snow accumulation is enough to get them too wet. I'd recommend getting two good pairs of shoes and alternating in order to allow each enough time to dry in between runs, and try putting newspaper in your wet shoes to absorb some of the moisture after a run. Hope that helps!
Guest,
If you are using the 18 or 20% Turbo and saturate the wash to that level, then you are doing just about as good as you can. You could add nutrients for the yeast, but I think that is over kill for Turbo. You could take 50 pounds of sugar, a gallon of water, and heat to a boil. It would be super saturated, but would only give you the 18% alcohol that Turbo can handle. The rest of the sugar would just sit there and be wasted. Us the charts on line, or download an app to your smartphone. I would suggest you do as much sugar as your yeast can handle. Taste it before you distill. Make sure it is not sweet. If it is, let it sit a while longer. You may need to check temps to finish it.
Locks Of Love is a scam! It takes 20-30 donations of hair to make one wig. Most of the hair is thrown out because it is "unusable." And only 3% of wigs go to people with cancer. And the wigs aren't free. They make them pay for their wigs. Locks of Love claim they are a non-profit organization but that is very untrue!! Just thought everyone should know the shocking truth i found out about LoL.
Do you really think that buying Under Armour gear is the best approach in urging consumers to be frugal? Under Armour's prices are extremely expensive for the product that is offered. If one was to buy an entire Under Armour workout outfit, they might as well have just have paid the 4 or 5 months of winter gym membership fees and probably would have broken even. Equivalent quality workout clothing can be purchased elsewhere for much, much less.

I use them for "Chip Clips", to keep bags of potato chips closed. They are better than the cheap plastic ones.

Answer: don't live in a city.

If the breading/frying thing works well, we are going to be one happy gluten-free family! Never thought of using potato flakes for breading.
Thanks for the link love! Traffic avalanche!
I agree. I feel green about my ebay account now.
That is a strange post. The author states that their home is kosher then proceeds to say they put a dairy product on a meat product.

You're very welcome, Tom! And thank YOU for the excellent tips -- college students need all the help they can get!

I was coming in here worried that I exhibit at least one of the characteristics that would flag me. Luckily, I have none! Good info.
