at least you stopped at 3. I've have bought brand new cars since I was 18 and FINALLY paid my first one off; I'm now 36. I will NEVER buy brand new again and the next car I buy I'm going to pay cash even if I have to buy a clunker. I added up all the money I spent on car payments over the years...I could have literally bought a small house for the money I threw away on car payments. Ugh. Never Again!
I read the Kindle does American English-an oxymoron??? But does it do correct English in dictionary, as obviously US English would be of no use to me. Cheers, I will keep popping back, Don
I bought a lovely wool jacket. It wasn't super expensive, but I've never worn it, but I still like it and won't get rid of it...(it has been nearly 20 years!)
i used my birthday gift card to buy a cat cone collar for my cat to stop pulling her hair out and the day it arrived she stopped pulling her hair out without putting it on.
The worst purchase I ever made was a suit from Goodwill for a costume I was trying to make. I didn't try on the sports jacket before buying it, and wasted 25 dollars. Not a huge financial mistake, but still one that cost me some money.
Are we, as a species so messed up by profit and misunderstandings that we cannot come to a definitive answer on whether these ingredients are harmful or helpful? Perhaps I do not appreciate how difficult these studies are, but every time I hear the results of a study, there is always some organization, person or university disputing the findings. It seems that where science used to be all about the truth, now it is muddled by so many other factors. We need to get beyond this situation so that we can make good decisions about our and our love one's health.
When we bought our house we purchased all new appliances. They have all been lemons and we can;t wait to replace them. The washer and dryer alone have had over 15 service calls and one of those calls was to service 3 appliances. When we buy again we will not buy all the same brand.
Daniel, I've got to call you out here.
Buying insurance for a car or a house makes sense: the thing you're insuring has utility, and presumably must be replaced. But buying insurance for a useless trinket? You can live without a ring.
(I'm using the dictionary definition of "useless". A ring has no use, unless you're the Green Lantern.)
I (obviously) think wedding rings are a giant waste of money, but I understand that's a minority opinion. What I really don't get is this: if a ring has a value that transcends price, is irreplaceable, etc., what's the point of replacing it? Should you need to cash in on the insurance policy, the item you'll be getting in return will never be the sentimentally charged original.
And I thought the jewelry industry had already reached its limits for playing on people's emotions. Apparently, it hadn't.
I just cleaned out my closet over the weekend and was reminded--yet again--that it is always a bad idea to buy clothes that are too snug and to be convinced you will fit into them some day. You won't. The only good news is that I sold them since they were in perfect condition.
Great post. I don't do much dumpster diving anymore, but several of the counties near me in California have what is called "Spring Cleanup". It allows residents to get rid of large bulky items once per year without an extra garbage pickup charge. I have found some AMAZING items. Some I keep and a lot I resell on Craigslist. It's a shame what ends up in the landfill, so I like to think that I am upcycling the items rather than seeing them in the trash. I usually net between five hundred and fifteen hundred dollars a year on stuff that others thought was rubbage. Yes, it takes time, but it's true what they say - either you have time or you have money. And nothing beats FREE.
Worst purchase I made was for a diet company (which shall remain nameless). $2000 and I had to eat about 500 calories/day. I could have starved myself for free!
Of course not. I'm not suggesting that people sleep in urine, sweat or vomit. I am saying, however, that these things happen from time to time - and even though they're properly cleaned, stains still persist... and that's perfectly normal. People don't buy new mattresses every time life happens. At least nobody I know.
Sorry to say, Debra got it wrong, backwards.

"Artificial sweeteners don't affect your blood sugar level. In fact, most artificial sweeteners are considered "free foods" because they don't count as a carbohydrate, a fat or any other diabetes exchange. Remember, however, other ingredients in foods containing artificial sweeteners can still affect your blood sugar level.
Also, be cautious with sugar alcohols — including mannitol, sorbitol and xylitol. Sugar alcohols can increase your blood sugar level. And for some people, sugar alcohols cause diarrhea.
My toughest financial challenge right now is deciding to file bankruptcy before things get out of hand. It's not easy realizing there will come a point when all the bills I am juggling will slip out of my hands. Coming to this place was a combination of factors, but laying down my pride and asking for help with this has been a huge challenge for me.
My biggest mistake was buying a used Volkswagen from a dealer with a warranty. I purchased a 2006 VW Passat in October of 2009. Three months later, the Check Engine light came on, so I took it to the dealer. $4,000 later...cracked fuel tank and a whole host of other items. The warranty covered about $1600 of the repairs, but that was still a huge amount. I have dumped literally thousands of dollars into this car and have been trying to sell it for a year. Worst purchase ever!
That's silly, you can say the same thing about a car or any major purchase. Should you not buy a car because if you're irresponsible it could be expensive? For me, I got a discount by paying cash instead of credit!

The wedding ring I gave my first husband - total waste of money!

And they both vomit. Would you sleep in that?

It's true, rings can be expensive, and if you and your significant other don't care and if it doesn't have meaning, then it's not worth it.
In my case, it was worth it. The sparkle of my fiance's face is worth every penny I spent to make that diamond sparkle.
