My biggest financial challenge right now is the time it takes to accumulate capital. The business we are building (investment property portfolio) is capital intensive. It takes us quite a bit of time to stack enough money from our paychecks for another property.
While the time will decrease as salaries rise and properties earn their own profits, this has turned into a longer term project than I would like. I am really not a fan of trading time for a fixed amount of money for someone else. I just haven't come up with something I can do day in and day out for myself yet. Frustrating is an understatement, I am a pretty typical Type A person.
Right now, our biggest financial woe is that both of us are working summer internships. So we have no income. And that's definitely a problem, because living isn't free.
Maybe not always, but "Made in the USA" is often a good clue. Because I've kept house since 1955, I still have loads of stuff that is old but well made. My Pennsylvania House sofa is 20 yrds. old, used almost daily, and still looks showroom new. Sears tableware I've had for 25 years still looks good. Sure, Id like a change sometimes, but hate the new junk on the market.
My toughest financial challenge is, hands down, paying off my crazy student loans. There is a lot of information out there for students who are getting ready to borrow loans or graduates who only have Federal Loans, but my husband and I have ridiculously high intrest-rate private loans. We literally pay double our rent every month in loans alone. It's sad to think how well-off we would be if it weren't for them.
Ours is staying focused on our goals when those goals are years in the future. When you want/need something today versus paying off a debt years down the road or saving for a re-model that's 10 years away, it's tempting to go for the quick prize.
I live in Colorado and Comcast was the only game in town at the time. The price kept going up and then Directv came to town. So, we signed up for Directv... Well, with a basic channel, we just got our bill and it increased another $20 a month. Whaa? So I called to complain and they said they couldn't do anything about it. There are no discounts. My husband called and the response was the same. Today, I called to cancel service. I was a customer for nearly 11 years. They said they would decrease my payments to $45/mth. I said NO. They said they would give me a deal if I stayed. I told them that we tried to reason with them and all they did was tell me NO. So, I am returning the favor. I have switched to Netflix and the kids don't mind. I also cancelled my phone service and you know what? Without Directv and a landline, I'm saving $120 a month !
I'm getting married next summer. I told all the women who are my bridesmaids to pick a dark blue dress that fits them. I don't care if they don't match, I want everyone in a dress she actually likes.
Not raising the debt ceiling would result in just the sort of result described—bills would go unpaid because there wasn't any money. And not just "discretionary" expenses, but bills to pay for core government responsibilities.
I particularly like the last bit in the video, because it zeros in on what I think is the central truth about the whole matter: The result would be to give the Treasury the authority to decide what got paid and what didn't. Congress would never stand for that. Which means that the debt ceiling will be raised—either before bills start going unpaid or else very shortly after.
I am a type 2 diabetic who just read at 575 blood sugar....eeeeks is right
The nestle coconut creamer in my coffee spikes my sugar over 500 just a fyi
Thank you for all of the tips I have found lemon water or cucumber ice water to help
also start adding fresh garlic to your meats and pepper no other salts or stuff and it helps too. The green tea works and being japanese I found the fresh green tea virses tea bag is much quicker in lowering the blood sugar.
I lost 50 pounds and thot that was enuff to ignore my levels...boy was I wrong
I have had 17 surgeries so don't have much activity til I got that reading...it sure motivated me to get my hind end off the couch and start walking. even jogging laying down in the hot tub anything!!!
I am 51 and thot I was dying didn't know what to say to the kids, started getting rid of stuff and downsizing which was a good thing....
all because I quit checking my blood sugar and had ended up in dangerous waters.....
I feel more alive now and a lot less depressed or worried that I am dying...altho I could have if my blood sugar went up any higher....
So just cuz you lose weight does not mean your diabetis willnecessarily disappear!!!!
I did a clinical trial for BC pills and made some money, along with free doctor's visits for the year. It was a good experience and I would totally do it again.
I hate Comcast's customer service just as much as you do but I like their product. The only thing that keeps me from switching to Dish Network or Direct TV is that they seem to require a commitment for the lower rates and I don't know that it's worth it. Although I've debated writing articles of this exact same nature myself more than once. I've been flat out lied to, hung up on, told I would get a discount off my next bill MULTIPLE times and even after repeated phone calls... it never happens.
My two dogs got sick from Canidae when they changed their formula without notice. They had vomiting and bloody diarrhea for more than a week before I figured out it was the food. That company quickly went downhill.
Can anyone explain to me why on God's green earth this is even a discussion? Why is there such a thing as a "bridesmaids dress"? When I got married, my bridesmaid asked me what she should wear. I told her, "you've been dressing yourself just fine for 35+ years and I'm sure you'll be able to do it again this day. Just look fabulous -- whatever your version of fabulous is. Now, I have other things to attend to." I just told everyone involved in my wedding that I expected them to look spectacular and happy -- "Try to Outshine the Bride" was the dress code.
Consider the chameleon dress from Isadora Clothing (on Etsy.com)! They can be in a variety of colors and fabrics, and they can be worn over a dozen different ways. I got married in April (on my honeymoon) but couldn't commit to an exact style that I wanted, so I chose a white floor-length chameleon dress with a lace overlay on the top, and had a ton of options for how to wear it. Could have been strapless, asymmetrical, halter, etc. My reception is in June and I'll be wearing it a different way compared to how I wore it for my wedding. After the party I'll dye the dress black and have it hemmed to cocktail length for my 'forever' little black dress. Because of the way the dress is made, it didn't need alterations. I didn't have a bridal party, since we got married on our honeymoon, but if I did my bridesmaids would have worn Isadora dresses. Then they, too, could have worn their dresses in a style that fits their personalities and comfort level. As long as you don't pick weird colors, they really are dresses your bridesmaids can wear again.
I've done a couple of low-paying tests for scent perception and cognitive abilities, and I had good experiences both times. (Well, they were good experiences if you don't count the part where, after staying completely still in an MRI for an hour-and-a-half, I felt like my hands were on backwards. That was weird.) But medication tests always made me a little nervous, even though I know that drugs have to be a certain level of safe if they make it to human testing.
Has anybody else participated in clinical trials? What were your experiences?
One other tip: consider renting bridesmaids dresses instead of buying them. Because seriously, no matter what, that dress won't be worn again. Renttherunway.com and littleborroweddress.com offer great options.
I know a woman who selected the FABRIC and had each bridesmaid have a dress made in a style that flattered her. I can't remember if she also set them up with the dressmaker. The result was a wedding party that looked cohesive (and smart, as the fabric was black and white), but no one bridesmaid ended up looking ridiculous in a gown that wasn't suited to her shape.

Impending student loan payments, for sure.
Elvis sometimes included bacon with the banana variation.
Condensed milk is also worth trying.

I've seen that video. It's excellent.

#4 - great time to go for a walk after work!
Ashley,
Thanks for including my article - What Makes People Laugh - here! You've rounded up some very interesting links :-)
All good things,
Laurie

I love this idea!
Oh my goodness, keep the suggestions coming, people! So many great ideas -- these all sound delicious.
