  • How To Turn a 2-liter Bottle Of Water Into a 50-Watt Lightbulb   17 years 4 weeks ago

out. Witch is an important task in brazil...
Just put a glass tile would give about the same light ( I have used that...) but it makes a small room hot really quick in tropical zones.

So its a really good idea to have a small intake and to spreed the light.

  • Swoopo - great auction deals or great scam?   17 years 4 weeks ago

It is actiually gambling website more then Bidding website. You never ever compare with great eBay.

It is a organised scam in the name of 'Auction'.

I think they should have to mention that they are Gambling site on there website just like ladbrokes.com and coral.co.uk.

  • 6 Solid Online Resources to Help You Find a Job   17 years 4 weeks ago

Nice! The Fast Company article is of particular interest to me. I've bookmarked it and will pour over it tomorrow :)

I wrote a little instructional article for wikiHow on a great site I recently found (Indeed.com) and how I use it to follow job listings.

    Here's the article I wrote:
How to Optimize Online Job Searches

linkup.com seems like a similar site but I just tried to search on it and it doesn't recognize my hometown. I think it might only work for US cities which is unfortunate.

I also wrote a much longer article on my own site about job searches that might be useful:

  • How to recognize and answer illegal interview questions   17 years 4 weeks ago

Certainly there are illegal things to ask. However, there are the gray area questions that could be used against an employer. These questions would be lead a "reasonable person" to conclude that the employer was attempting to categorizes a potential employee into a protected class and then discriminate against them based on the answer. If you can document it, you could sue and win (maybe).

The real question is, do you really want to work for a company that doesn't want you there? Your just going to get fired as soon as they can figure out a way to get rid of you.

I suggest being polite, not lying, maybe taking money from the bastards, and continuing to look for a less hostile job environment.

These are simple skylights, but, way cheaper. There's a brand called solatube that does something similar, but it's more expensive. The top of the bottle and the water probably bend the light so it goes downward. The water may condense on the inside of the bottle, forming tiny half-spheres that would diffuse the light.

  • Swoopo - great auction deals or great scam?   17 years 4 weeks ago

It took me about $5 of bidding to realize that Swoopo makes money on the volume of failed bids.

  • How to recognize and answer illegal interview questions   17 years 4 weeks ago

I have never been asked any of these illegal questions, but I do wonder that in the case I do get asked, how one could respond to it, what if the question is asked with good intentions and just the interviewer trying to get to know you better or make you feel more comfortable? Anyway thanks for the great article, really helpful! If you have a moment please also check this list I compiled of the 50 most commonly asked interview questions, why they are asked, any hidden motives and exactly how to answer the questions!

I wouldn't exactly call it new though. I should go put some tube skylights in my bathrooms.

I think the water helps to prism the light so your getting more light than from a simple covered clear hole in the ceiling. What I could not tell was how they held them in the ceiling.

The only problem I could see is they would freeze in northern areas.

  • How To Turn a 2-liter Bottle Of Water Into a 50-Watt Lightbulb   17 years 4 weeks ago

...is considered a new idea. It isn't. Seafarers have used deck prisms...essentially the same thing, just in glass...since the 1800s, and an quick walk through an old neighborhood in any major city will probably uncover dozens of instances of glass cylinders set in the sidewalk to provide light for cellars.

Props to the guy for using water bottles. It's a great idea. But the idea ain't new.

  • Tattoo removal on the cheap...just use a Black & Decker Sander.   17 years 4 weeks ago

I was eighteen. I had just joined the Navy///” everyone was doing it”/// It was small, about 2 inches by 2 inches. What could it hurt?????
That was in 1952, and I have hated it for 57 years.Don,t bother with the math, I'm 75. I have tried burning it off a little bit at a time over the yearswith a soldering tool, with little success and a lot of small scars and some pain.
Recently while working with my Dremel tool in my little shop, I thought I would try again to remove my tattoo.
I searched my first aid kit and found a packet of antibiotic ointment. I had a new stainless steel brush, which I soaked in alcohol overnight. The next morning I was in the tattoo removal business.
I was at a little disadvantage because my tattoo is on my right forearm and I am right handed.
A few small touches to test my resolve set me at ease because I did not want a large wound. The almost invisible little slits began to show red oozing into the heavy coat of ointment. I felt no pain, so I continued until I had lightly covered the entire tattoo.
After cleaning up the ointment, I put some on a band aid covered it and hoped for the best.
I am a curious sort and I wanted to see what I had accomplished and about an hour later with the bandage removed, there was no bleeding just a lot of little red nicks.Muich like razor cuts, but much smaller.
After about a week, the wounds were all healed and the markings about ¼ gone. And as a bonus the self inflicted scars were gone also. The second attempt went like the first and now my tat is just a blur.
this morning it got another treatment , but this time I didn’t have to cover as much area because some of it is completely gone already. So far the blood which I have lost would not not even soak a Q tip.
I will follow up on this in a week and report the results

  • Swoopo - great auction deals or great scam?   17 years 4 weeks ago

I agree with the main idea behind this article: Swoopo probably isn't the place to go if you're strictly looking for a good deal. While good deals can be had, the best part of Swoopo is the excitement of playing and winning. For the money conscious, better stick to traditional auction sites.

For those who want a little spice in your life, Swoopo might do the trick.

Necessity is the mother of invention... great post... hopefully here in the USA and other "developed" countries more people will actually start looking for greener ways to improve our daily lives that, like this one, will keep more green in your pocket!!! Don't buy into the green hype with your hard earned money!!!

The bleach might be to keep the water "fresh".

  • How To Turn a 2-liter Bottle Of Water Into a 50-Watt Lightbulb   17 years 4 weeks ago

The video is interesting, especially the final scene where they showed a "before" and "after," but for the most part it doesn't explain how it actually works. What does the bleach do in the process? How does one really make it? Why do you need to "cover the cap"? Why does one need water/bleach in there at all, rather than just a plastic opening to let sunlight in? Still, it's great that this innovation has been introduced....

I had read this too, and was wondering how it applied to my shopping habits.  I think for the most part, this is true, and I'm really glad you brought it up.  I have a backwards method of "not buying" that might tip you off to how strange I am.  I love to put items in my cart that I'm not sure about buying.  Then I go around the store to finish my shopping.  If by the time I'm done, I'm not feeling absolutely awesome about my decision to buy, I put it back (or tell the cashier I've changed my mind.)  I seem to buy far less stuff this way.

    Thanks for a great article!

  • How to Combat Economic Fatigue   17 years 4 weeks ago

Thanks Katy DDFD, and Almost Millioinaire, your thoughts are much appreciated. As for sleep, I have no problem with it since I'm a SAHD and being around kids all day puts sleep ahead of sex and food in terms of importance. What else is there?
