  • Why You Don’t Need Mortgage Life Insurance   16 years 8 weeks ago

SueSweetDeals@Yahoo.com -- what not a legitimate business email address?  Just curious how you can ask for name, etc., when all you provide is a yahoo address that anyone could set up.  Legitimate people at legitimate companies have legitimate corporate email addresses.

All those guests who have had a GREAT experience with Marty and Hard Money Placements, why will you not provide your name, company website and email address?  Just curious why you'd take the time to give glowing recommendations, but will not leave your contact info.  Anyone I or my company gives recommendations, we provide all our information for people to check back with us to verify.

  • How to Make Moonshine   16 years 8 weeks ago

Um.......... as one who is fascinated with this process and after extensive reading on the subject, under the right conditions, you can get fleischmans yeast to ferment out to 14% (gotta feed the yeast nutrients while fermenting). and you are right, it's not rocket science.  When distilling the beginning parts should be thrown out but if you can get your still to reach between 172 and 180 degrees, consistently, it will be ethanol!!

    • Acetone 56.5C (134F)
    • Methanol (wood alcohol) 64C (147F)
    • Ethyl acetate 77.1C (171F)
    • Ethanol 78C (172F)
    • 2-Propanol (rubbing alcohol) 82C (180F)
    • 1-Propanol 97C (207F)
    • Water 100C (212F)
    • Butanol 116C (241F)
    • Amyl alcohol 137.8C (280F)
    • Furfural 161C (322F)

Once together, a mixture of several of them will be slightly different however. You no longer get them coming off seperately, but always as a mixture. Fortunately for us though, each of the species will tend to dominate around its boiling point temperature, thus we know whats "mostly" coming off at that point. By tracking the temperature of the vapour, you have a fairly good idea when you're collecting the Ethanol your after (78-82 °C), vs when it is starting to get lean and you're into the higher alcohols.

Note that you may also need to adjust the temperature if you are distilling at altitude - the higher above sea level you are, the lower boiling temperatures become because of the reduced air pressure.

  • Free Food in Your Yard: Edible Weeds!   16 years 8 weeks ago

While growing up my parents made everything from delicious meals to desserts to herbal teas using wild 'weeds'. We called them wild herbs :)

For herbal tea they mixed dandelions, chamomile, closed rose buds, and other varios greens around the yard. I didn't realize how uncommon this was until we moved out of our very small farm town...

Thank you for the post. I really enjoyed it: brought back great memories

  • Free Food in Your Yard: Edible Weeds!   16 years 8 weeks ago

Now this is a truly interesting post. Good stuff.

I do try to eat healthy, natural foods, and am working to make that the foundation of my diet. Lots of veggies, fruit, whole grains, and lean protein. I strongly believe that there is a correlation between eating well and overall quality of life - INCLUDING the financial side of things. If you keep yourself healthy, you'll be in a better position to both earn more as well as enjoy a higher quality of life.

That said, being a suburbanite, I have picked fruit/veggies at orchards and farms here and there, but haven't ventured as far as wild plants! This cetainly represents and abundant food source, but it requires some alternative thinking and a paradigm shift for a lot of people. Additionally, we should probably be educated on the impact of some of these plants on our bodies - better be careful, as some could be toxic.

Overall though, this represents another frontier in fresh, healthy eating that we may cross someday. Its not mainstream now, but those of you doing this may be "pioneers" in this venture, though I would say our early anscestors probably ate these things.

Anyway, at the least, this is alternative way to eat healthy "greens" at minimal, if any cost. Good post.

  • Are the new home appraisal rules good for consumers?   16 years 8 weeks ago

We just had this happen. We were denied a loan by Wells Fargo, who made us believe they could do the loan only to tell us no. Our appraisal is only 1 week old. The new lender said they cannot use the FHA appraisal that we have and we will have to pay for a new. This is not a good deal for buyers. If you have to go to a couple of companies you are out $1000 to $1500 dollars with no guarantee of a loan. If the bank is the "client" as far as the appraisers are concerned why doesn't the bank pay the appraisal fee?

  • $80 for an HDMI Cable? Give Me a Break!   16 years 8 weeks ago

Proven FACT!!  The price on HDMI cables are a DIRECT REFLECTION on the amount of data transfers speeds they allow!!  If you choose to use a $10 HDMI cable (at about 3.7 gigabits per second data transfer speed, you will get LESS of your high definition picture to your expensive TV than if you were to use a $70 cable with a transfer speed of 10.2 gigabits per second!!! )  I can't believe how many people fall for the old "cheap is just as good as expensive" argument in this day and age.. When has "cheap" ever been better than "expensive" (read, quality) ? Just as in everything else-you really do get what you pay for!! (I did the test myself, $13 on-line cable versus $50 cable-HUGE difference in both video and audio quality as well as reduced interference from other cables behind the TV-) DO YOUR RESEARCH, PEOPLE!!!

  • Horizon Organic Milk: Is it All Just Lies?   16 years 8 weeks ago

The package, according to your posting, does not claim that it is hormone free. If you read carefully it claims it does not have added hormones.

Also, there is no federally regulated minimum grazing time for cows to have to label their milk organic. (Yet.) So, even if the cows only see a drop of green pastures, it's still enough to make their claim to being organic genuine.

When I had some of Horizon's milk in New York, it claimed that it was supplied by a variety of surrounding family farms. Whether or not this is true, I have no idea.  They could be small time factory, family owned farms. But, I like having milk that is as chemical free as possible, and the taste was wonderful.

  • Can cheap AppleCare on eBay be trusted?   16 years 8 weeks ago

I can not comment on the safety of purchasing an APP on Ebay recently, but I have purchased them in the past (through reputable sellers) with no problems when needing to use it for service through Apple. The only problem I encountered was when I was getting a MacPro replaced (through Applecare) and they said I could get a pro-rated refund on the APP from the previous MacPro rather than transfer it to the new one. Without an actual receipt from a retailer they would not refund me the pro-rated cost. It was still cheaper than an initial APP purchase through Apple though.  kdd
