Just wanted to report back that I went back last night with the aisle and bin numbers where the stuff I wanted to buy was, went straight there, got it all, and got it out. I couldn't agree with you more! For many people, it's not practical to shop this way. A good example of someone who can take advantage of cheap glasses is my husband. He had laser eye surgery a few years back, and it left him with much better vision than before. He still needed glasses, however, and due to the nature of his work, they were always getting scratehd and bent. Since this essentially amounted to "disposable" frames, we got him one good $200 pair and a couple of the cheapos for when he's working in the shop. I no longer cry when they get trashed :)
Al juices are dangerous to diabetics, because commercial juices have added sugar and they go directly to your blood strem. Eat the orange,pulp and all, instead. try the green slurpee that I suggested as comment #79. Now its time fo my hour of dancing.
Andrea, when I changed jobs, and had to change doctors, this young guy recommended Actos. I took it for four days and was so ill, I threw them away and have gone back to natural remedies. No need to take meds so you could eat what is bad for you. All doctors recommend medicine, that is their business. My sister who is also diabetic, and took meds, including insulin, now has Parkinsons's disease to cope with also. I can dance. She cannot walk. My girlfriend had the bariatric surgery to get off insulin, lost 60lbs and now walks six miles three days a week.

I was diagnosed as diabetic ten years ago when my blood sugar climbed to 153. One quarter is meat, one is pasta, rice or other carb source, the other half is vegatables, with a salad on the side- no dresing. That is how you must et from now on.
It has worked. My weight is 142 lbs on evenings. I dance or walk one hour minimum, and test my blood twice daily on my left hand only. I try to go to bed at 125 or lower. I use the following o help lower blood sugar spikes- powdered cinnamon in green tea, chinese bitter melon as a raw veggie, fenugreek tea,or the leaves sprinkled on other foods, and I avoid all sugars, things with added sugar, oils except olive oil, and I have max.of two eggs a week, usualy on Saturdays, cooked with onions, tomatoes, celery and non-fat yogurt. I eat a lot of curry-the tumeric is good for you, and my only beverages are tea, wter and wine-in small quantities, taken with food.
When eating out, I keep my salad throughout the meal, and I eat very slowly. I have two little plastic boxes I nw take with me, and split my restaurant meal before I eat. I have green tea bags with me whereever go, and all my friends have now become tea drinkers.
My latest breakfast fad s a green slurpee made frombroccoli, mustard green, spinach, papaya, half a green apple, half a banana and some nuts, and a tablespoon of vinegar. If I am not going out, I add a clove of garlic. Blend them into a puree, pour into a large bowl add two tablespoons of non-fat yogurt, sprinkle with some powdered cinnamon and a dash of freshly grated nutmeg and enjoy. The banana, green aple and papaya give a sweet tang, that is contrasted with the yogurt and the vinegar.

So, this article was written awhile ago..but as I just found it I will add my "other use" for beer here. Last summer, we were all down in FL on the beach for about a week...unfortunately, during that time almost all of us were stung by jellyfish at some point...pour the beer over a jellyfish sting and it will take the sting out of it. My husband apparently got hit by a wave of them and had stings all over his back...pouring a beer on his back took the sting away almost instantly (also...we rubbed the beer in a bit just to make sure!)

Zorcy, like i said, the thumper thing is a new idea to me. Is saving the "tails" from every run and using them in the thumper a good idea? What i mean is, the stuff in the thumper is only a condensing medium, yeah? So "tails" stuff is already alcohol-saturated, and would work quicker? I'd still cut it off at the point before it would come through the worm/ condenser. Am i thinking along the right lines here? And also, the smoked peat moss thing. To be honest, I'm not 100% sure what you mean by smoked peat moss. Peat moss here is a fibrous stuff you buy in big bags for potting up plants. What i DO have is peat briquettes. Thats compacted peat from a peat-bog; people here burn it as fuel. Were you thinking of something like getting a smoky peat taste; a bit like a scotch single-malt whiskey? I might try charring a small piece of it and using it like you did with the oak shavings, just to see what it tastes like. And do the oak shavings add colour as well as giving the "aged" taste; or do you need to caramelise sugar for that effect? The problem isn't little expenses per se... it's buying things reflexively that don't really give you much pleasure. For my morning caffeine fix, I make my own. A latte I make myself at home gives me about as much pleasure as one from Starbucks. More, in fact, because I can use organic milk, fair trade beans, and my own mug and the cost is still less. It only takes a few minutes in the morning, no more than the time to stop off at Starbucks and wait in line, and doing so is really just a matter of getting into the habit.
On the other and, going "out" to Starbucks is a great cheap date, a pleasant way to meet friends or treat my kids, and I wouldn't give it up. There aren't too many places to go out for $10.
So the answer, yet again, is to spend consciously and examine how much value you are getting for the money.
I agree with this to a certain extent. However, for some of us, cheap lenses and frames aren't an option and paying extra for expertise is something that doesn't bother me. I have a long list of eye issues...nearsighted, astigmatism, double vision, bifocals, etc. When I was first diagnosed with double vision and needed bifocals, I asked my ophthalmologist where I should purchase my glasses. She gave me the name of a one man shop. I took him my Rx and he quoted me a price of 400.00. I almost fainted. I went to all the mall stores and got quotes which were much less. I took all the quotes back to my doctor. The mall stores were going to put in inferior lens, didn't understand the Rx and on and on. I may pay more for the guy who owns his own business, but he is able to work with my doctor to get my Rx CORRECT and has me seeing 20/20 which is amazing.

Here's the thing. Just because you have a compound miter saw, doesn't make you a carpenter. A desk-top publishing program doesn't make you a designer. A money management program doesn't make you bookkeeper. Film editing software doesn't make you a video expert. Illustration software doesn't make you an illustrator. A bunch legal forms doesn't make you a lawyer. Tax prep software doesn't make you an accountant. Gosh if everything were that easy, we would all have to find new careers.
Expert in a box. Sure you can do it yourself, some things are worth investing in and some things not so much. Regardless, you should be willing to do a bit of research regarding any big decisions or responsibilities and decide for yourself when a pro could really save you time and money. Heck, I still think I can design my own garden and to this day it still looks a bit sad. The money I have spent trying to create my vision could have paid for an expert a few times over. We bought our home in 2004 knowing we'd have to put some money into it. This was a starter home for us. We got a FHA loan, a decent interest rate, and a payment we could afford. I was having a moving company move my household contents across town and when it came to my Vintage Piano to be moved the mover informed me that it would cost a additional thousand dollars to move the piano, I declined his offer and got on the phone with a furniture refinishing company and asked them if they refinished piano's and if they could pick the piano up at one house and deliver it to another when it was done. The refinishing company said that they could and it would cost me three hundred dollars to do so. Guess which route I took?!

They exist simply to subtract some value from every real-estate transaction. I've always soaked all dark coloured clothing I buy (mostly dark jeans, black cotton pants, shirts and tanks, etc) in cold water with vinegar for a few hours before the first laundering. It helps prevent clothing from fading quickly over time and multiple washings. *Just a sidenote - I've only done this with my less 'delicate' materials...*
About 1/2 cup of vinegar in a couple of gallons of COLD water in a bucket for an hour or so before laundering usually does the trick. This concoction also works for removing (or minimizing) antiperspirant stains, depending on the age of the stain of course :P Hope this helps :)

Just wanted to report back that I went back last night with the aisle and bin numbers where the stuff I wanted to buy was, went straight there, got it all, and got it out. I couldn't agree with you more! For many people, it's not practical to shop this way. A good example of someone who can take advantage of cheap glasses is my husband. He had laser eye surgery a few years back, and it left him with much better vision than before. He still needed glasses, however, and due to the nature of his work, they were always getting scratehd and bent. Since this essentially amounted to "disposable" frames, we got him one good $200 pair and a couple of the cheapos for when he's working in the shop. I no longer cry when they get trashed :)

One quarter is meat, one is pasta, rice or other carb source, the other half is vegatables, with a salad on the side- no dresing. That is how you must et from now on.
It has worked. My weight is 142 lbs on evenings. I dance or walk one hour minimum, and test my blood twice daily on my left hand only. I try to go to bed at 125 or lower. I use the following o help lower blood sugar spikes- powdered cinnamon in green tea, chinese bitter melon as a raw veggie, fenugreek tea,or the leaves sprinkled on other foods, and I avoid all sugars, things with added sugar, oils except olive oil, and I have max.of two eggs a week, usualy on Saturdays, cooked with onions, tomatoes, celery and non-fat yogurt. I eat a lot of curry-the tumeric is good for you, and my only beverages are tea, wter and wine-in small quantities, taken with food.
When eating out, I keep my salad throughout the meal, and I eat very slowly. I have two little plastic boxes I nw take with me, and split my restaurant meal before I eat. I have green tea bags with me whereever go, and all my friends have now become tea drinkers.
My latest breakfast fad s a green slurpee made frombroccoli, mustard green, spinach, papaya, half a green apple, half a banana and some nuts, and a tablespoon of vinegar. If I am not going out, I add a clove of garlic. Blend them into a puree, pour into a large bowl add two tablespoons of non-fat yogurt, sprinkle with some powdered cinnamon and a dash of freshly grated nutmeg and enjoy. The banana, green aple and papaya give a sweet tang, that is contrasted with the yogurt and the vinegar.

So, this article was written awhile ago..but as I just found it I will add my "other use" for beer here. Last summer, we were all down in FL on the beach for about a week...unfortunately, during that time almost all of us were stung by jellyfish at some point...pour the beer over a jellyfish sting and it will take the sting out of it. My husband apparently got hit by a wave of them and had stings all over his back...pouring a beer on his back took the sting away almost instantly (also...we rubbed the beer in a bit just to make sure!)

I went to fred's and brought one of there hose end sprayers. You can attatch this one to the sprinkler and go back and refill it when it is empty this workrd best for me.
Zorcy, like i said, the thumper thing is a new idea to me. Is saving the "tails" from every run and using them in the thumper a good idea? What i mean is, the stuff in the thumper is only a condensing medium, yeah? So "tails" stuff is already alcohol-saturated, and would work quicker? I'd still cut it off at the point before it would come through the worm/ condenser. Am i thinking along the right lines here? And also, the smoked peat moss thing. To be honest, I'm not 100% sure what you mean by smoked peat moss. Peat moss here is a fibrous stuff you buy in big bags for potting up plants. What i DO have is peat briquettes. Thats compacted peat from a peat-bog; people here burn it as fuel. Were you thinking of something like getting a smoky peat taste; a bit like a scotch single-malt whiskey? I might try charring a small piece of it and using it like you did with the oak shavings, just to see what it tastes like. And do the oak shavings add colour as well as giving the "aged" taste; or do you need to caramelise sugar for that effect? I don't really like putting long posts on here; too many subjects that get sidetracked and leave unanswered questions. But you're a VERY patient guy, so thanks!!
The problem isn't little expenses per se... it's buying things reflexively that don't really give you much pleasure. For my morning caffeine fix, I make my own. A latte I make myself at home gives me about as much pleasure as one from Starbucks. More, in fact, because I can use organic milk, fair trade beans, and my own mug and the cost is still less. It only takes a few minutes in the morning, no more than the time to stop off at Starbucks and wait in line, and doing so is really just a matter of getting into the habit.
On the other and, going "out" to Starbucks is a great cheap date, a pleasant way to meet friends or treat my kids, and I wouldn't give it up. There aren't too many places to go out for $10.
So the answer, yet again, is to spend consciously and examine how much value you are getting for the money.
I agree with this to a certain extent. However, for some of us, cheap lenses and frames aren't an option and paying extra for expertise is something that doesn't bother me. I have a long list of eye issues...nearsighted, astigmatism, double vision, bifocals, etc. When I was first diagnosed with double vision and needed bifocals, I asked my ophthalmologist where I should purchase my glasses. She gave me the name of a one man shop. I took him my Rx and he quoted me a price of 400.00. I almost fainted. I went to all the mall stores and got quotes which were much less. I took all the quotes back to my doctor. The mall stores were going to put in inferior lens, didn't understand the Rx and on and on. I may pay more for the guy who owns his own business, but he is able to work with my doctor to get my Rx CORRECT and has me seeing 20/20 which is amazing.

Here's the thing. Just because you have a compound miter saw, doesn't make you a carpenter. A desk-top publishing program doesn't make you a designer. A money management program doesn't make you bookkeeper. Film editing software doesn't make you a video expert. Illustration software doesn't make you an illustrator. A bunch legal forms doesn't make you a lawyer. Tax prep software doesn't make you an accountant. Gosh if everything were that easy, we would all have to find new careers.
Expert in a box. Sure you can do it yourself, some things are worth investing in and some things not so much. Regardless, you should be willing to do a bit of research regarding any big decisions or responsibilities and decide for yourself when a pro could really save you time and money. Heck, I still think I can design my own garden and to this day it still looks a bit sad. The money I have spent trying to create my vision could have paid for an expert a few times over. I have learned to appreciate the skills and expertise of others and I totally believe they should be fairly compensated. I was having a moving company move my household contents across town and when it came to my Vintage Piano to be moved the mover informed me that it would cost a additional thousand dollars to move the piano, I declined his offer and got on the phone with a furniture refinishing company and asked them if they refinished piano's and if they could pick the piano up at one house and deliver it to another when it was done. The refinishing company said that they could and it would cost me three hundred dollars to do so. Guess which route I took?!

They exist simply to subtract some value from every real-estate transaction. I've always soaked all dark coloured clothing I buy (mostly dark jeans, black cotton pants, shirts and tanks, etc) in cold water with vinegar for a few hours before the first laundering. It helps prevent clothing from fading quickly over time and multiple washings. *Just a sidenote - I've only done this with my less 'delicate' materials...*
About 1/2 cup of vinegar in a couple of gallons of COLD water in a bucket for an hour or so before laundering usually does the trick. This concoction also works for removing (or minimizing) antiperspirant stains, depending on the age of the stain of course :P Hope this helps :)
