The mortgage acceleration methods are awesome! You can really pay off your home a lot faster than the traditional way. I write about it too on my site. My site is regarding the mortgage crisis we are still under and answers to questions.
Will any of these dent removal processes work on a heavy duty steel bumper on an F150? I have a dent I'd like to pull on the heavy duty rear bumper. I've tried pounding it out from the back but, so far, it won't budge...
I crunched the numbers a few weeks ago to make sure I would come close to not have to pay in or at least break even, and I ended having to contribute more into RRSPs (registered retirement savings plan - in Canada) to offset taxes. Otherwise, I would likely to have paid in significantly more.
How do re-start a "stuck" fermentation? It's at the right temperature, (i have an aquarium heater in it), but it's stopped fermenting with enough sugar still in it to make another 5% alcohol or so, according to my hydrometer reading. I'm using a high-alcohol wine yeast that supposedly ferments up to 18 or 20%. i've tried putting more yeast nutrient in it, but it didn't work. Any ideas?
hello my name is hannah and i am 16 years old. i have been wanting to volunteer for a long time now to help people wh are less fortunate in countrys like africa. however there is no sites or foundations that i can find that pay for the travel expenses. i was wondering if there is any or if anybody knows any places that will for someone my age. thank you .
There are four of us. No little kids. Our youngest is 14. We use the free bread box at church, have a small garden, and frequent a local bump and dent grocery near us. People without these options can get ideas on how to manage at Hillbilly Housewife and $5 Dinner Mom. I think it would be impossible to do $1 a day for our sons as they are at the "human vacuum cleaner" age. Once past that perhaps....
Hello. I am 29 and have been saving for a home for ýears. I live in SoCal where the prices are outrageous, but the prices have declined about 50 percent from where they were 5 years ago. I knew I wanted to buy a home before the prices began to creep up again, and the 8k tax credit was a serious motivator for me. I found my dream house (which was listed for 400k in 2007) in foreclosure and bought it for just 175K. I had the seller (bank) pay my closing costs and fannie mae only required I put down 3 percent. All in all I forked out about 8K as my down payment which, and this is important, I COULD HAVE AFFORDED WITH OR WITHOUT THE TAX CREDIT. However, my leftover "emergency cushion" would have been about 10k, but thanks to Obama administration, it will be 18k - exactly what it was before I bought the house. The tax credit definitely gave me a push and incentive to buy. But if I hadn't had the savings before as described above, it never would have happened. I've noticed as I read the blogs that the people who don't qualify for the credit are all against it. But I probably would have delayed buying a place to increase my savings more. At a time where prices are showing slight signs of stabilization and even increases in some areas, the home prices would have probably been out of reach again by the time I saved another 8k.I am sorry for those folks who do not qualify, but sometimes robin hood has to take from the rich and give to the poor.

I've always thought capital gains taxes were the worst of them all. You make sound investments instead of throwing your money away and then you get penalized for it?
I see no point in trying to eat on a dollar a day, but my monthly budget is $45 a week and I easily meet it. Last year I trended to $172/month, or under $6 a day. I eat very, very well and do not feel deprived at all. I eat mostly veg, but some meat and fish each week. My meals are the envy of my friends. And I could eat for even less if I gave up meat completely.
What I do however is to cook everything from scratch, never buy single servings, don't drink juice or soda, and shop carefully including many ethnic markets. To me, where I buy my food, and cooking frugally and healthfully, and thinking about what I buy and why is way more important than an arbitrary dollar limit. Frankly, food is one of my smaller budget categories and expenses. Sure, I could contort to get it down further, but it's way, way less than I spend on my transportation or medical insurance at this point.
As I often do after I blab on in comments, I fact-checked myself after I wrote this, and apparently actually 30.6˚C (87F) is the highest minimum overnight temperature we've ever had in Melbourne, so I was wrong to think it happened often. I guess it usually drops down to 20 eventually, though it seems to take a long time sometimes!
I love this post! And I completely agree. I'm from Sydney and Melbourne, and I've never had air-conditioning. It gets hot, but if you drink lots of water you can get used to it. I wish we lived in a world where it was acceptable to just go with the weather and take it easier during a heatwave. But instead everyone thinks working ten hours a day no matter what is vitally important.
The windows open at night thing doesn't work so well in Melbourne, where if it's hot, it sometimes doesn't drop below 30˚C (86F) at night. We all turn into zombies because it's impossible to sleep when it's that warm, but I think it makes life interesting to actually be affected by the weather from time to time instead of always modifying it to our tastes.
My pet hate is over-cooled trains. I find I have to carry a jacket on hot days to wear on trains. It's just annoying.
I was a bit shocked when I worked for an electricity company and found out energy use peaks on hot days, and in the afternoons too when people get home, so it seems a lot people most certainly do use air-conditioning. I think they're weak!
Try alkaseltzer, @ 3 tablets to 5 gallons of water, if doesn't work try more denture tablets. Fold your linen (this prevents having to iron it afterwards) then submerse in the solution, let sit until clean and white. Remove, ring out excess water, Lay out a thick absorbant towel, lay linen on towel and roll up tightly to remove reamining water. Your tablecloth/net or lace curtains are ready to use.
It's great to always look ahead and not just at what's happening right now. To grow professionally, see if you can take additional training at your current employer or consider online studies in addition to the night school. It's hard to predict what jobs will be in demand in the future (there should be a demand for technology but it's true as you mentioned that the field is constantly changing, making it difficult to prepare) -- but if you have money saved and can survive a period of unemployment (or underemployment), then you'll be ready to reposition yourself for a new career when you're ready.
Well, for fun I decided to look at the 2008 M1PR that I sumbitted last year for my partner. Sure enough, Turbo Tax was missing the same information on the 2008 form. However, the state did accept the incomplete form as the refund appeared in my partner's bank account. I'm sure the state has seen a lot of these forms with the missing information sine a fair number of people use Turbo Tax. Kudos to you for spotting the error and (eventually) getting a hold of people to get it fixed.
Recently unemployed, I've been buying the 1.5 liters of Gallo wines on sale because they're not terrible. They're currently doing a coupon deal where you can get $2 off if you buy 3 bottle and $2.50 off if you buy 4. Imagine the looks I got from the checker and the other people in line when to took advantage of this coupon the other day. I fully expected an intervention the next time I walked into the store.
1. It's free. We have no incentive to scam desperate borrowers. We're financed by mortgage lenders, government agencies, and the Homeownership Preservation Foundation.
2. 100% Transparency. We will conference call with you and the mortgage servicer to talk about loan mod./ pre-foreclosure options. Loan mod. companies ask you to stop paying the mortgage, don't call your bank, submit docs to us and we'll 'take care of it.' Through this method, they are able to drag clients out 3-6 months while they change their phone/fax/email, change company name, file bankruptcy, etc. Even the ones that don't do this: take on more clients than they could possibly ever service, for an upfront fee, and are doing what you can do yourself but are frustrated. Let's be respectful and assume 10% satisfaction. Through trials and tribulation it is NOT possible to thouroughly research a loan mod. company. Clients tell me every day they got scammed even though a family/ friend member referred them.
3. No false promises. The Making Home Affordable Modification Program's monthly PITIA payment is based on 31% of your gross monthly income. That's it, no negotiating the monthly payment.
Now, to rebuttle Z. Burkett:
"Anyone who says that all lawyers or loan modifications companies who charge are scams, MUST BE WORKING FOR OR ARE FUNDED BY THE BANKS!"
Firstly, CAPS/exclamations are the number one sign of scams/rip-offs. Secondly, there is no negotiating a lower payment/loan mod., as stated, it's based off investor participation, gross income, less than 3 months PITI payment in the bank, hardship situation, etc. If you need help in reaching helpful representatives from your servicer, give 888-995-HOPE a call and ask for housing counseling. It's free, HUD-certified, and we have hotlines with the lender for this situation. Banks don't want more homes, and they don't get paid the incentives until the mod. is permanent. Don't pay someone 2 grand when better help is free.
PS I'm working on the MHA help team, escalating trial period files to the Dep't of Treasury. I'm just here to help, and it is free.

I just wanted to say that it is an honor to have a post of mine on your blog. thank for picking it, and thanks to centsible life for allowing me the guest spot. :)
Wow, thanks for your post. I stumbled upon this, and I'm glad I did as I just filed (but haven't yet mailed the M1PR) my partner's taxes using Turbo Tax (web version).
I looked at the M1PR generated today (3/12/2010) and sure enough, the section between lines 10 and 11 is blank. I'll have to re-do it thanks to this major error.
I'd like to offer one note of correction -- it IS possible to file an M1PR electronically, but Turbo Tax doesn't support it. (Turbo Tax, if you're reading this, there are a bunch of people in Minnesota who'd appreciate it if you folks would support that for 2010!) Other competing tax preparation tools can do it (and the one that the state lists even throws it in for free when you file federal and state). I’m looking for some advice from some more seasoned workers who have the experience to know. I am 25 years old with a trade certificate in Information Technology from a vocational high school in 2003 and havn’t used it since. I worked a few automotive jobs as an uncertified mechanic and parts counter sales for little pay but I loved what I was doing. When I was 20 I fell into a job as a Drop Forge Operator in a factory forging steel which I have been at for 5 years. It’s a union job, 1’st shift, making $17.41/hr plus overtime, health/dental/life insurance, 2 weeks vacation, matching 401k & a pension. Plus it’s a relatively low stress job and I love my boss. My dilema is my job does have a lot to offer but there are not many factories in my area with Drop Forge Machinery and I don’t have any other skills. I fear that if my company eventually closes or outsources that I will find myself older and unskilled making it very difficult to find a good job. Especially as I get older as I know age discrimination is all over the place. Should I get into a new line of work while I’m young enough and most likely take a hit in pay and benefits so I can have a more secure career or should I just take the $$$ now, build up my pension, and worry about it when it happens? I have considered night classes, however if I stay at my current job for too many years my training will be outdated (like my IT cert) so there is no point if I stay at my job. What would you do?
If you are interested in helping me with advice, please e-mail me at my1990cavalier@hotmail.com. Please put in the subject line " should I look for a new job?" so I know it's not spam. Thank you
Planning to upgrade from Standard Dish to High Definition? Pretty much do the exact same thing to what most people are doing with premium packages.
I saw an ad on TV regarding Dish Network offering free HD DVR Equipments and Free Installation. I called DirecTV if they are willing to upgrade my equipments for free or else i switch to Dish Network. 30mins on the phone with the rep, who was willing to lose me as a customer because she couldn't or no power to do so. Talked to Tier2 Customer Rep and finally offered a bargain. =) If i was willing to resign my contract for another 2 years they are willing to upgrade all my receivers to HD including 2 HD DVRs with free installation and no upfront costs. I do however have to pay the *HD Service in which to me having the equipments for free instead of paying over $1000 with the installation was successful bargain.
Hence being with DirecTV with another 2 years, Tier 2 Rep also added a 6mos free premium channels, STARz, HBO, Showtime, etc....
The moral of the story, don't talk to 1st responders, talk to their boss. =) Happy Hunting

Interesting article and even more interesting comments. The internet is full of 'car salesmen are idiots'/'we car salesmen are people too' arguments.
I want the bargaining skills of commenter Kaleb, though.
