I am more optimistic now than I was last week. I found out I owe a ton in taxes and will have to start making the quarterly estimated tax payments (thanks grad school for not telling us this in advance). So, I was looking at having a ton less money, but after redoing my budget and looking at areas I can cut back, I am more optimistic. However, I am still disappointed because I can't save as much as I was hoping.
Unfortunately, it is not free. Someone, the taxpayers, pay for it. We are now so deeply in debt, we can no longer afford to do these altruistic acts. I agree that it is extremely important to have a well educated nation. I just don't feel like we can keep up all the freebies we give. I'm not really sure what the best answer is to getting back to where we are the number one nation...but I know it's not thru debt.
I do feel fairly optimistic about my finances this year. If I can stay motivated and stay on track I believe I can accomplish my goals of paying off debt and saving more for the future. Hoping my willpower keeps going!

Have an electrician wire your garage door opener to only work with the garage light being turned on first. That way the garage door is absolutely dead and wont work until light is turned on inside the garage. You also can get a device to turn on your garage light with your cell phone. That way you call the device to turn on the light inside your garage then use the garage door opener when you get home!
I feel optimistic about my finances going into the new year. In fact, I feel like I am getting to the point where I can start adding new goals like buying a house or paying off my student loans.
My parents bought a very modest home in a very fine public school system, just so we'd have educational advantages.
We moved with our own young family to a different area because of work and found the school system here is quite below average academically. Homeschooling is an option for some. Others in our town cyber-school, (public school curriculum taught at home).
One of our sons has learning issues and we do have convictions on what our children should be taught, so after trying homeschooling, found private school was the best option for us. The financial aspect needs to be weighed, but there may be scholarship or other work offset arrangements available, depending on the school itself. So if you are considering it, ask.
She's frugal?? $150 on a hotel room. We travel all over the country, if we can't find a room under $100 that town won't be visited again, unless we hit it late on some kind of local event we weren't aware of!
I just cleaned my refrigerator today...it took less than one minute to wipe down the shelves. I pulled out the drawers (and then closed my refrigerator--yes, you can do that) and washed them before putting in our week's worth of fruits and vegetables. Yes, I have kids, and yes they make messes, but so long as I don't go months without cleaning the fridge, I never spend more than 5 minutes MAINTAINING a clean and organized refrigerator!

You totally nailed it. I'm able to wear my jeans without washing them because my jeans have a minimum of 98% cotton content. Most women's jeans have more stretch, but those bag in the knees after one wearing and require constant washing to keep them in shape.
You don't have to wear raw denim, to be dirty, but you do want to find jeans that are as close to 100% cotton as possible. Classic Lee and Levi's 501 jeans are fine examples of 100% jeans that are available to the average human. I wear Capital E Rule jeans by Levis that are 98% cotton. (They are now a discontinued model. Boo). They are not raw denim but they develop the raw look because of the contrast between the dark wash and the wear marks. (You get this high contrast whisker fade across the front of the jeans and behind the knees because you aren't fading the jeans all over in the wash cycle).
To get the raw look, buy a dark rinse pair of jeans that fit you in 98% - 100% cotton. You can also use spray starch to give them the stiff look of raw denim (which will also give you more defined wear). I don't do this, but this is an old fashioned denim trick to get a "good fade."
What Brittany probably meant to say is that "the median wage of all U.S workers -- $27,500 -- is only about 40% of that" or similar (it's actually 37.4%). We should have caught the error prior to publication.
My current favorite jean is Levi's Capital E Ruler jeans...which they discontinued. So I have an ebay alert for them and buy them when I can there.
There is no "most versatile" cut. This is a fashion marketing scam designed to force women to buy new clothes every season. I say buy the jeans that are THE MOST FLATTERING on your body.
Keep your eyes peeled for a woman with your body type on the street who looks great in her jeans. When you find that lady, ask her the make and model of her jeans. I find this is a great short cut to finding pants that fit. I also recommend window shopping for clothes on sites like modcloth that feature a variety of body types. The Plus and Petite Sized communities are really generous about sharing clothing sources, but even if you wear a "standard" size, reading the comments and looking at community sourced photos are a great way to track down jeans that will fit you well.
Southern California Costco lets you just walk in the Exit door without showing your membership card to get to the inside food court as well. You don't need to be a member to eat at the food court even if the food court is not outside.
ALSO, you can buy an electronics warranty (like for a TV or COMPUTER) from Costco without actually purchasing that item from Costco. I bought a TV online (because Costco didn't carry TV's that expensive) and then went to Costco and purchased the SquareTrade warranty. It was cheaper than the warranty I was offered and better. This warranty said they would only fix the TV once, whereas others will fix it 3 or 4 or 5 times. That may sound better but after the TV breaks a second time in the allotted time period, you're just gonna want your money back. You're not gonna wanna have a broken tv 3 or 4 or 5 times... you're gonna want one that works. The warranty I got from Costco will fix it once, and then give you full purchase price back after a second failure. BOOM, you go buy a brand new one that isn't a dud.

I'm optimistic. I'm finally out of debt so I can start saving.
I'm on a good route right now. As long as I don't divert from this route, then I should be good by the end of 2015 to be debt free!
I feel optimistic about my finances this year. What will I do to make sure my financial situation is on track this year? I am going to work hard

Hi Rich-
Thanks for the comment -- and the correction!

We have corrected the text.
