Rent is the biggest expense right now. At 20% of net income it's pretty good and allows us to save/invest a lot. However, we are now looking at houses and if that goes through I think our mortgage will be closer to 50% of net! That will be quite a change...
getting out of debt is very easy. am debt itself can also be used positively. but if you are to get into debt at all, dont get into large debts that you have to pay for. learn the secrets of the rich by getting my free ebook. you never have to be poor ever again after reading this book.
I love the idea of asking for other peoples input. It is so nice to have a variety of perspectives. I have never been super diligent about putting back money, but one thing that adds up surprisingly fast, is just dropping your spare change in a jar. Nobody like carrying around piles of loose change, so when you get home at the end of the day, empty your pockets into a jar, and when it gets full you will be surprised at the total! Then you can either deposit that money into a savings acct, or you can use it to splurge on a fun date! Either way is a win!
I have a few American friends who use Venmo a lot, but I can't get it in the UK.. I did find something very similar called Payfriendz which is really easy to use. It also has a virtual Mastercard which means I can spend the money I get back from people online straight away without having to withdraw it into my personal bank account.
Definitely some great tips in this list here. Getting to debt free is a great goal to try and achieve, because the benefits can be amazing. I do know I tend to not impulse buy when I have cash on me - I should definitely use that more often. Thanks for sharing this!
If the purpose of region codes is to preserve the ability for summer blockbusters to be sold at different prices before a foreign release, then why is it that virtually all DVDs have region codes (like a 1950's Henry Fonda film), but most Blu-Ray discs don't (like Pacific Rim)? Wouldn't this theory predict the opposite?
Rent is currently our biggest monthly expense, costing us approximately 20% of our take-home pay. We've been saving aggressively for the past four years, and just made an offer on our first home. With a 20% down payment and a 15-year mortgage, our monthly payment will go up by a couple hundred dollars, but with plenty of room for a large garden and deep pantry, we expect that to be offset by lower food costs and tax deductions. We could lower our monthly payment with a 30-year mortgage, but it would add another $100K in interest paid out over the life of the loan, so we're willing to keep our belts tight instead!
This is an old discussion, but I have a new question. What about Amazon Reviewers? Example: I just starting doing Amazon Reviews. The company sends a product for free, I complete review. 95% of these items I have already given away. I sent a big box of things to my MIL's church for the women to puruse and choose from. But now I am wondering if I owe taxes on this. I don't get any money, and because I gave product away, I no longer even benefit so if I owe, it is like I PAID to give a bunch of strangers miscellaneous stuff. Please advise so I can choose wisely or not at all going forward.
I put 1/2 cup baking soda in every load of laundry (fill bottom with just enough hot water to dissolve the soda, then finish filling with cold water) to increase the detergent's cleaning power. Put 1/2 cup white vinegar in the fabric softener dispenser (a downy ball works, too). It's a fabulous softener, and with the baking soda and vinegar, there are no odors on my clean laundry!
To bleach items, add 1/2 cup lemon juice (add right after washer begins agitating). Don't use it on colors, though!
If you like scented laundry, ditch the dryer sheets. Everywhere suggests wool dryer balls - but I didn't have these, nor money to buy any, when I decided to go natural. I found some foam flip flops that I had barely worn bc I didn't like how they felt. I washed them, then put two white socks on each, in opposite directions. They work great at cutting static, and to add a great scent, I generously add lavender essential oils to my "dryer balls".
Our laundry is super clean & fresh, incredibly soft, towels are absorbent again, and it genuinely smells great (not perfumey).
I think if you allow someone to stay in your home so they aren't spending money on rooms, they shouldn't be the only one to benifit from the generosity you offering. I think you as a host shouLD give you monetary offers so you both benifits from this, especially knowing it's a sisters boyfriend who is taking a vantage of your kindness.
I paid for the dresses, shoes and purses for my maids (ok, I only had 3 and the whole outfit was about $100 for everything). I told the girls that this was my gift to them, instead of a piece of jewelry or bridesmaids' lunch.

Like most people, my biggest expense is my mortgage.

Only our bankrupt government can spend more than they earn and not go to prison!

Mortgage is #1, with daycare for 3 kids a close second.
By far it's our mortgage
Daycare. We pay about 1100$/month for daycare and only about 800$ for mortgage.
Depending on the month, the biggest expense is either mortgage or credit card.
YA Book Exchange is a good place to get books. BookMooch is also one I like
Food for us and our pets.
And next week please read 25 Things to Throw Out Today
My biggest monthly expense is childcare.
does vinegar help repel fleas
Loved Love's Lemon Perfume. Not sure if that's the right name.
Does anyone remember?
I am using this for a project I used your example to help me
