Nice to hear I am not alone. I was hypo when younger and 20 years later I am type 2. It is 180 right now as I sit here. I am feeling lost on how to get it down. I took my glucophage tonight. Can someone explain to me how bloodsugar makes u gain or lose weight. I hear so many different opinions. But I need some medical facts to go by, so I may be educated on this.. Help please.

  • 8 Price Match Policies You Should Be Wary Of   11 years 8 weeks ago

Interesting stuff! Walmart just started recently honoring their OWN online pricing in-store, and it's worth a look at their site because pricing can vary wildly from store to store.

Also, regarding the Kohl's policy, many advertisements DO have the date printed. Often, it's in very small letters on the spine of the ad. Or, there is always a page with very fine print. You should find it in there. Still, it's a pain.

  • Which Salt Is Best?   11 years 8 weeks ago

I switched from typical table salt about 2 years ago, once I realized what typical morton salt actually was. I have found that 'regular' unrefined sea salt actually tastes so much better! Some people refer to it as gourmet sea salt or chef salts, but I do believe it should be in every kitchen and restaurant. Maybe if restaurants changed their salts set at the table it would help inform those who have yet to find out there is a difference in salts. Thank you for this well written, informative post about salt! I buy all of my unrefined sea salts from SaltsWorldwide. They have varieties of sea salts available from places across the world! I enjoy the Fleur de Sel Sea Salt - simply amazingly pure unrefined salt from the earth!

  • If You're Doing These 4 Exercises, Your Workouts Are Worth Nothing   11 years 8 weeks ago

I agree with Guest. Low intensity cardio gives you the benefit of stress relief, and does improve overall cardio health. Sure, you may not lose quite as much, but the more you do this, the faster you may be able to go, and then at some point, you'll be going fast enough to burn more calories and lose weight. And of course, the diet is very important.

  • The 7 Best Affordable Cities to Start a Family   11 years 8 weeks ago

Chapel Hill is SO expensive! The prices for houses are pretty high and the property taxes for the town of Chapel Hill is (I believe) the highest in the Raleigh-Durham area. I'm currently looking for a house in this area (I currently live in a nearby town) and am not even considering Chapel Hill because it is so much more expensive. The public schools are really good, though.

UNC Chapel Hill is a HUGE presence in this small town (about 20-30K students a year). For a small town with an estimated population of 60K, that's a LOT of students. You have to be careful where you live in Chapel Hill - do you really want to live next door to a bunch of college kids?

You don't HAVE to rollover your retirement account. If your previous employer has good low-cost investment options, most employers allow you to leave your balance there. It's still your money, but if you don't want to move it to an IRA you don't have to.

  • The Guide to Staying at Hostels for People Over 30   11 years 8 weeks ago

    Hello Max,
It is a nice post here with amazing execution. For most of the time I find that hostlers find it uncomfortable to adjust with more than 5-6 peoples as have to share all the things with increasing number of people. So it is the best post which will help them to guide. As in my opinion hosteling become more fun when there are more number of people are there. You can enjoy more with more persons.

  • 7 Money Software Tools Worth the Price   11 years 8 weeks ago

I'd love to see a budgeting software that has a more simple UI than YNAB. And more simple terminology.

That said - budget simple looks promising. I particularly like the idea of showing trade offs.

But can anyone tell me, why do all budget software companies tout being able to watch your money for you? If you're hurting financially and you think budgeting software is the answer, then I'd bet that NOT watching your money is probably a large reason you got there.

That said - if you're in a completely comfortable spot, and hitting all your financial check points, and you just want an easy tracking system then go for it.

@Christa do you use any of these software tools yourself? If so, what's your experience with them?

  • 10 High-Paying Careers With Low Educational Barriers   11 years 8 weeks ago

Hmmm, I was going to say that You completely forgot financial advisor.

It's actually an unrelated term so you can become one, even without a bachelor's degree (as stated by the Department of Labor Handbook). The handbook is describing what is a Certified Financial Planner (which DOES have a bachelor degree requirement.

In the end, when looking for a financial advisor - it's best to ignore the title and look at the letters behind the name and know what they mean.

Oh - and they make about $75K/year plus substantial bonuses (because they're really just financial salesmen. Most of them anyways).

  • How High Is Your Score on the Most Important Measure of Wealth?   11 years 8 weeks ago

Hey Kentin - I'd like to challenge you on a couple of things.

    1. Net worth is the end-all be-all measurement of financial success.

Net worth is worthless if it is continuously depleted. Net worth is used to either reduce expenses (ie. no mortgage), or to create cash flow (investments that generate income). This income, or lack of expenses is the basis for financial success - namely, is your income more than your expenses.

    2. An asset is anything that adds to your paper net worth -

Again, I respectfully disagree. An asset is anything that adds to your income, reduces, or in maturity will reduce your living expenses. It also must typically retain the majority of its value. Equity in your home, emergency fund (assuming you're at least trying to keep it up with inflation), and rare coins, sure.

A car is not one of them.

    3. The rest of your stuff is spot on for the most part. The whole 20 x annual income at age 72 might be what many advisors recommend. But many advisors are really salesman in disguise so I'd have a hard time trusting their advice in the first place.

@Donna Sako - It's a hard world we live in. So how do we make it better (other then to quit trying to educate people about money the same way they did in the 60's. That's really worked out well for us hasn't it.....)

  • 4 Ways to Stop Your Spouse From Overspending   11 years 8 weeks ago

I was skeptical when I saw this (about Controlling your spouse) but these are all really great suggestions without crossing the boundaries of healthy relationships.

My wife and I actually use all of these tactics.

We talk about our money once per week as a staple in our system.

We have uninhibited spending money that requires no accounting for.

We currently have savings & investments automated (at an agreed on rate and we do it first)

And when one of us is struggling with the amount we're spending in certain areas and why, that person takes over the money for a month to see where they would like to re-organize things. 1/2 the time we don't change anything because we set things up the way the are for a reason.

My question is - Why do you think these habits only apply to couples where one is an "overspender"?

  • 10 Magic Words to Say to Get the Best New Car Price   11 years 8 weeks ago

    Great Article.

I would say that this applies heavily to everyone...even if you're going to pay cash for your next car (which few people are so congrats to you Bigfire).

The reason I feel this applies to everyone is because all the tactics are designed to operate from a position of power.

Whether you pay cash, or need payments, these questions and statements box the salesman into giving you a great deal by taking away their leverage points.

    Great Read Paul. Thank You.

Where did you learn this stuff?
