I think old jeans paired with an old quilt that's ragged but still has some good areas would make really unique Christmas stockings..and if the old quilt, as in my case, was hand sewn by a great grandmother..with cotton for batting from her own cotton fields, then the stockings make wonderful family heirlooms for all the children in our extended family...the jeans could be paired,,however, with many other fabrics..the old quilt just struck me as a wonderful gift for my grandkids and great nieces and nephews...
We recently realized that we would do well to get a paper shredder for our business. It would be a lot safer for our information and records. I don't know if anything like this will meet our needs, though. I think we might be better off with something more heavy-duty.
Elizabeth - Papaya - are GMO as well. I agree with guy on a plane..support the food that supports our soil, water supply, other animals and all the humans that grow it. Organic does have more nutrition, it tastes better and it supports long term sustainability of the planet. It is never stupid to make the oragnic choice.
Good tips. Living in NYC space is definitely a luxury plus I also operate a home office so it's even more important to keep things organized. I rent a storage unit to keep my off season stuff and others which I don't need regular access (like max once every 2-3 months). I follow these small space storage ideas in NYC and keep things off the floor and maximize as much vertical storage as possible, then make some design tweaks to visually increase the space of the rooms.
Our local community college has a culinary school which offers five-course gourmet meals for $35 per person. Also, it is BYOB. So people should contact culinary schools in their area to see which meals are open to the public.
I disagree with things to avoid list. I've bought all of those things and I they've worked fine. It's just a matter of being choosy and knowledgable about whatever you buy depending on your needs.
There are way too many coupon sites out there these days and a lot of them are the same. You find a lot of "up to" percentage deals, which basically means it's the retailers clearance items and not really a coupon. If you are looking for sites that offer coupons, stick with the larger sites offering exclusive discounts. These are generally good coupons you wouldn't find on all the small, automated coupon sites, and they will actually get you a discount on newer merchandise (not just the clearance leftovers).
Also, you will generally find better deals on sites that do not automate their deals/coupons.
Oh I honestly do not get "ME" time very often. Have been a little stressed...really could use some but everyone else is so busy to help. I often find myself staying up until around 2am just to hear the sound of silence! LOL
Actually, you are way off base on a lot of these for the dollar store I shop at. I have gotten decent kitchen knives, decent tools, even decent viatmins. Out dollar tree even sells 3 liter sodas now.
Don't get me wrong, there is still plenty of junk. The thing is to LOOK at the item before you buy it.
The store I shop is headed by a corp office and they look at sales to see what sells and what doesn't for EACH STORE. So they drop items that don;t sell and find other better replacements. (So says the manager. lol)
Bottom line in shopping: Look before you leap! You can tell what you're buying before you leave the store if you just check it out first. Be it Dollar Store, Good Will or Walmart. Even online, you can read reviews first.
in some villages and towns, the heated wires that go along your roof to try to stop ice dams are against code, so its always a good idea to check those in particular before installing them
My wife and I, both, have scores north of 800. To be honest, I don't see any extra benefits. That's probably because we have no debt other than our mortgage and don't pursue more debt. I imagine others with similar scores have similar attitudes. I'm going to look into the insurance part of that though.
What started as a Christmas Groupon gift certificate for a one hour therapeutic massage (thanks, hubby!!) has turned into one of my favorite and most guarded "me time" plans--a monthly massage! Not only is it a nice stress-reliever, but I also find I have fewer migraines, back aches, and neck pains. I try not to miss a month, because I feel so restored afterward!
Other than that, I try to meet up with friends on my own once a month or so, but sadly, I have not been as good at guarding that "me time" against scheduling/laziness/etc.
Great article. Passed it onto my kids. The two lessons I learned very early on. 1) Put money in the bank and you get more back. (Now interest isn't too hot but then it was better.) 2) If you want something big you need to save for it. If it's not important enough for you to wait, you really don't want it badly enough.
About the age of 12, when a neighbor was tagged with a sheriff's sale back taxes notice on their home, I learned the idea of living within your means. All the newest gadgets they had in their house, (a source of "why can't I have?" among my sisters and I), were shown to be a sham.

Whoever asks the other person on the date should pay.
Yes, I definitely try to at least.

We keep Sunday as a day of rest. This is the main reason I got through graduate school with some smidgeon of sanity left!
I do schedule me time. That is the only way it happens. I try to schedule a whole day and find it really helps.

How is your heating bill a "hidden" cost? You get the bill every month.
After I'm done with my writing for the day, I schedule a little "me" time while the kids are in school.
I raise the humidity. Feels warmer so I can run heater less. I know someone who uses socks that are battery powered to keep hunters warm. Just saying.
Since I'm single and childless, I have plenty of me time and I love it!

I send letters to soldiers through Homefronthugs.org. It is very rewarding.

Shop smart!

I have a little time each night before the kids go to bed.

I take some "me time" at the start and end of most days.

USAA Secured Card is also great if you are or can qualify to be a member. You open a CD in a minimum of 250.00 and this secures your credit card.
