We cook at home almost every night, but we do often use boxed starter kits, jarred sauces, and/or frozen veggies to save on time and personal energy.

  • How to Throw a Fabulous (and Frugal!) Dinner Party   11 years 32 weeks ago

I'm definitely going to have to keep all this in mind, for my next dinner party. I usually try to keep things on the cheaper side when I prepare meals, especially since I've been throwing a bunch of money into some websites, so this is definitely good to know :)

  • 12 Ways to Tell the Difference Between Being Frugal and Being Cheap   11 years 32 weeks ago

I have a ruke of thumb: if you watch the TLC TV show 'Extreme Cheapskates' and you identify with any of these practices, you're cheap! Period.

I watch that show and shudder. Unbelievable!

Almost every night. Cooking a nice meal is my favorite way to unwind after work!

  • 15 Things in Your Kitchen You Should Throw Out Today   11 years 32 weeks ago

I'm surprised that toaster oven is on this list. It is much more efficient than an over, which the author recommended using to make toast! Keep your oven off and use your toaster over to roast small batches of veggies or reheat food without getting it soggy with a microwave. Toaster ovens are great!

Eat at home? Heck yes! I'd have to say 95% of our meals come from my kitchen. As for my go-to quick meal, fried rice is ruling the kingdom right now. Some pre-shredded cruciferous veg (think rainbow slaw), frozen peas, leftover plain rice, some protein (or not), a slurry of chili garlic paste/sesame oil/soy sauce/a bit of sugar, a beaten egg, and you have an amazing, filling, kid-approved-for-school-lunch dish! Yum!!

  • Ask the Readers: How Often Do You Cook at Home?   11 years 32 weeks ago

I try to cook at home most days, and bring lunch from the leftovers or something I made at home, but I am not as good at resisting going out as I like, weekends especially I tend to grab something out when running errands.

  • Ask the Readers: How Often Do You Cook at Home?   11 years 32 weeks ago

I cook every day and I try to remember what sides I made with a main dish so there is not too much repetition. Sometimes I wish someone would treat me to dinner!

  • Ask the Readers: How Often Do You Cook at Home?   11 years 32 weeks ago

Myself? Only once or twice a week. But my husband does most of the cooking - and it's rare for us to eat out (once or twice a month max)

  • 6 Ways to Trick Salespeople   11 years 32 weeks ago

I have used a number of these tricks and it helped me not put as much money down on a car, as well as in another instance, get the monthly payment I wanted on another car. I found that speaking quickly, but also a good amount of acting agitated, or that I was really pushing my limits in terms of a down payment from the start, worked to my advantage. Specifically, I was willing to go up to $3K down, but due to some great acting, I only put $700 down, and I got the payment I wanted.

  • 13 Ways to Make Money Online That Aren't Scams   11 years 32 weeks ago

Hello All, I would like to thank Damian for this bullseye targeted work. Really informative source to gain benefit. For me, as an ordinary person who spends some significant time with internet, I'm chasing for online additional income opporunities. Of course trying to stay away from scams. Personally I think that affiliate marketing is still valid way to gain some extra cash and already selling some internet goods. There are also other ways. But each website generally focuses on only one. However you can check http://www.find-tr.com . There are several opportunities there. Good luck to everyone.

  • 10 Wasteful Things That Frugal People Do   11 years 32 weeks ago

Number 10 is incorrect. You do NOT waste more energy turning off your AC when you're not home. However, you shouldn't turn ever turn your heat completely off if it's so cold your pipes will freeze.

Your scam detector is working correctly. These are sites targeting people like you who are looking for the official government site. Their real purpose is to enroll you in "credit protection" and other dubious services.

There is one correct government site and you have to find it. It is NOT running ads and ir they do not manipulate search engines to get to the top. They actually

  • 9 Dumb Little Things You Need to Stop Saying Today   11 years 32 weeks ago

Sarah, you may be a good writer, but all of this is stupid people say to tick people off. Why not write and article that says what a smart person would have said instead. Give example and then write a good intelligent person would have said better. I have come across ALL of these situations and it's not what you say, but how you say it. Like the judging one. Don't judge, say, "Bad choice, but you can do better". I talk to people everyday and laugh at them inside, but given a positive swing on what you say and how you say it, makes anything, even sarcasm, makes the person feel a little better and less stand offish. Foul language is a NO. Just listen and then answer.

  • 6 Ways to Make Your Tiny Apartment Feel Like a Castle   11 years 32 weeks ago

When I lived in a very small apartment, I had chosen, instead of having a bed AND a sofa (which would have been impossible anyway), to purchase a sofa-daybed from Ikea (the Hemnes model). Placed in a corner of the flat, fitted with oodles of pillows, a good mattress and a nice, indecently comfy duvet, it served as my bed and lounging sofa.

Probably the cosiest, most "no I don't want to go outside, it's too comfy in here" piece of furniture I've ever bought. Absolutely love it.

Not to mention the 3 massive drawers under the mattress, making it a fantastic storage facility as well.

  • What to Buy (and Avoid Buying) in November   11 years 32 weeks ago

If you don't need the latest model, wait until April to buy your electronics. This is when Japan is ending their fiscal year and rolling out the newer models. So things like TV's will be the cheapest then (unless you score a great black friday deal designed to lure you in and have you buy more).

Alternatively, wait until the next model of software comes out (Think the next Windows update). The previous version will be cleared from shelves at a good discount.

  • Ask the Readers: How Often Do You Cook at Home?   11 years 32 weeks ago

Every day! LOL My Homeschooled teen wants to be a chef so he cooks for us. When I cook, I like to do some prep work in advance like brown 10 lbs of hamburger up into 1 lb bag & freeze for quick meals. We rarely eat out but love to snack when out shopping. Last night we took advantage of Burger Kings 10 piece chicken nuggets for $1.49. Not a bad deal for on the run.

  • 10 Really Easy Ways to Unclog Drains   11 years 32 weeks ago

I'm surprised other than another reader commenting that using the plunger method isn't mentioned in this list. Whenever my tub clogs up, I block up the overflow hole with a wet towel and use a plunger to clear the drain. It works every time. Once I plunge out the drain and the water is flowing again, I put baking soda and vinegar in there and let it sit for a while. Living on the bottom floor of an older three story apartment complex, I get drain water from the above apartments in my kitchen sink and the tub tends to clog up once every few months. The first time, I had a plumber come in and fix it but when I saw what he did and how simple it was, no need to call again.

  • Ask the Readers: How Often Do You Cook at Home?   11 years 32 weeks ago

Almost every night. I like knowing what's going in the food. I pack my lunch and have frozen marinated meat in the freezer just in case. I eat out three times a week at most.
