  • Remove Car Dents Quickly and Cheaply   11 years 34 weeks ago

There are a new product called "Quickdent" which is getting popular to remove dents from auto bodies. Does anyone have any experience with it. I know a lot of products of this quality is nothing but a hype. :(

  • 13 Dumb Little Purchases You Need to Stop Making Today   11 years 34 weeks ago

I agree with what you've said, however am one of "those people" who wash plastic products. The locic is like this. If I own a service of eight for normal use, have limited acessable cupboard space, and want to invite 15 people over once of twice a year, it's better to use plastic for those occassions. Since I am cheap, (AKA frugal), I wash them and stick them in a box out of the way between times. Now if I lived in NYC and all storage space were a premium, I might toss them.

I spent some time on the internet but the most relaxing I do is knitting or crocheting.

  • Ask the Readers: How Do You Unwind After Work?   11 years 35 weeks ago

I meditate for 8 minutes every day. That's all it takes to relax. Listening to my favorite music also is relaxing. And I read for relaxation, too.

I have a landline phone, but seldom feel the need to answer it. I've never had a cellphone or other electronic gadget, so that in itself is relaxing.

  • The First 5 Things You Must Do After Getting Laid Off   11 years 35 weeks ago

I think the most important tips that you posted are to be gentle with yourself and to not burn bridges. Sometimes we let our emotions get the best of us and make bad decisions when packing our things up or when walking out. You never know when you might need that letter of recommendation..

I've read on many sites how the hot water on airplanes isnt really potable if even palatable. That said, instant coffee makes no sense! No improvement over free inflight brew

  • Don't Go to College to Learn   11 years 35 weeks ago

Great ideas i too think same on the topic. Most private colleges are here just to make profit they don't provide any quality education at all, just bookish knowledge.

  • 10 Foods With the Most Bang for Your Buck   11 years 35 weeks ago

This is great! My grocery list actually looks a lot like this. Sure wish I paid anything close to those prices, though!

I'd add cabbage to the list - it's super cheap and can be used to bulk out stir-fries (which use only a little meat and are very quick to make), soups (a fantastic dish to use dried beans), and salads, and it's pretty much made of fiber and Vitamin C. Also, one firm head of cabbage goes a long way - I've made a huge pot of cabbage & navy bean soup, a lot of coleslaw, and 2 meals of stir-fry from just one head of cabbage.

  • 25 Frugal Items for Your Organic Vegan Grocery List   11 years 35 weeks ago

This post arrived while I'm in the middle of canning (should be called "jarring") tomato sauce. Frugal tip: I ordered 60 lbs of "seconds" tomatoes from one of the organic farmers at my farmers market. I received gorgeous fruit, mostly heirlooms. All very ripe and sweet. Piced at $1.25 per lb instead of $3.95 per lb and the waste wasn't bad!

  • 8 Hours? 9 Hours? This Is How Much Sleep You REALLY Need   11 years 35 weeks ago

When your body can wake up without the aid of an alarm, that is how much sleep you need. If you have a hard time getting out of bed, you should probably go back in it. I actually think 8 1/2 hours is the sweet spot but that's just my 2 cents. Everybody is different. Listen to your body, eat well and exercise.

  • Are You Eating the 10 Most Over-Priced Restaurant Menu Items?   11 years 35 weeks ago

This article has a major fault in logic--it only calculates based on raw ingredient price. When you factor in buying, prep, cooking, and cleanup time, then these aren't that bad. Consider a salad: a head of any type of lettuce takes 10 minutes to pull apart, thoroughly wash, drip dry, and cut. Then there's the wash and chop time for all the many ingredients we add. Shredding cheese can be a pain when you clean up. And while a bottle of dressing goes a long way, a premium selection of 5 can set you back $25 up front. Note, if you buy any salad ingredients prewashed and/or cut, then you're already approaching the made-to-order price.
Pasta can be easy and cheap to buy and cook, but a good sauce doesn't usually come from a jar and can easily take 60 minutes and $30 of ingredients to recreate.
Pizza seems like a waste at that price, but unless you have enough people you risk overeating or throwing away the portion you saved price on.
A good rule of thumb is that if you have 5 or more people eating the same thing, then you can save by making it at home (to the same quality level). If it's less than that, then you'd better off enjoying the time saved and the freshly prepared food to order.

  • How to Be Happy and Married: 24 Tips from a 24-Year-Old Marriage   11 years 35 weeks ago

I can say, being in our second marriage after both of us were divorced the first time, we are in that statistically precarious group. We committed to putting our relationship ahead of other family things, getting professional help when either one needs it. There's no easy way to handle complicated family situations, we are counseled by a therapist we both respect, and good friends who are successfully married 37 years. We married with a minister and small family wedding, not for a party show but to tell our kids ages 17-22 that it can be done and we're committed to making it work. We celebrated our second anniversary and yes we have seen the therapist each year!

  • 14 Pricey Things You Shouldn't Buy (And What to Get Instead)   11 years 35 weeks ago

I can't agree with the idea of replacing parmigiano with pecorino. Pecorino is made from sheep's milk and thus has a somewhat saltier and stroner taste, that doesn't go well with some pasta sauces. For an alternative that's easier to combine with all kind of ingredients, try grana padano.

  • 7 Popular Vacation Spots That Aren't Worth the Money (and Where to Go Instead)   11 years 35 weeks ago

Seriously, have you ever even been to Naples (apart from cruise ship stopovers, that is)? I'm quite sorry, but you're doing nothing but repeating stupid and ignorant stereotypes. I've been to Naples last year and had a vacation that was nothing but wonderful. I didn't feel treatened or anything once. It isn't even a problem to take walks in the quarters with a "bad" reputation like Sanità or the Quartieri Spagnoli, as long as you don't happily flaunt your Rolex. The food is great (and cheap!), the city is packed with stunning art and the Amalfi coast is only a bus-ride away. It's true that Naples has a somewhat gritty charm to it, but it's a honest, genuine place and well, if you want picture postcard Italy, then go, take that ship to Capri. (And by the way, it's undeniable that the Mafia is deeply ingrained into the system of the whole Mezzogiorno, but it's kind of cute that you think the Camorra might be interested in some little insignificant tourists.)
