Though I haven’t done Financial Emergency conversation with my family yet but I have definitely discussed about Savings and Budget – the two main aspects of financial prudence I believe. However, the last point in this blog post – ‘The Death Conversation’ – did look weird but is definitely too practical. I doubt anyone does this. However, the all the points written here are definitely very practical. Thanks for this well written blog post.
I would have to say I do shop goodwill which I have no problem with at all..my husband and I work over 60 hrs a week and I still shop there to save..i use coupons and I compare when shopping thanks a lot :)
Has anyone used this tool called DRAIN-FX? Does it have enough pressure to clear the clog? I can't use chemical drain cleaners because I am allergic to Sodium hydroxide and my landlord managed to unclog my bath tub a few times (too cheap to bring in a plumber)
Anytime you need your family and friEnds. They are just Skype away.
I connect to my mom and sister in India just for their smile and for their anguish that I am staying away from them.it's just what technology does to people. I talk to them for more than hour on a weekend.
And you know how awesome mothers are... With just a glimpse of eyes and sound of your voice, they can tell that you are happy, sad, hiding secret that's the clarity the skype gives out along with emotions.
Thanks to technology and thanks to Skype. Now I do all my sisters marriage plan on Skype.
My favorite way to save money is by using coupons. I've been doing it for years and on bad days have saved a minimum of 50%. I think what helps though is that I really like it. It doesn't feel like a chore. I get excited about it and fair very well.
Capital one never give you the money back. you have to cancel the secured credit card to get the deposit back and that will destroy the credit again. So what is the deal with them???
We acquired the shore house last summer, and we spent most of the summer putting it together, so we missed out on the prime rental season. Things are really heating up rental-wise for the shore house this season already however, which will mean that I will have to go back and forth between the property often, sometimes a couple times a week. I prefer to do the cleaning myself because a) only I'm going to do it to the standard that it should be, and b) I don't like the idea of dipping into my profits by paying $150+ for a cleaner to come in every time a guest checks out. I will certainly need to manage my schedule much more tightly, and likely reduce a bit of my workload for my other business, but it's manageable. Take into account too that I'm self-employed; I think that's the only way you'd be able to manage an out-of-state property by yourself because you'd have the flexibility.
These are all great tools ... efficiency is the name of the game! Cloud-based file-sharing services (like Google Drive, Dropbox, and others) are also really handy (and free!) I use Dropbox, which allows me to save - and access files - from various locations. It is especially helpful when I'm working on documents that I want to access from both my home and work computer. It was a lifesaver when I had to replace a laptop computer - no need to recover files from an external hard drive or flash drive; they were all waiting in my Dropbox folder(s)!
I use Skype to keep in touch with family when they travel. It's so wonderful to see & speak to them and not have to worry about how much the call will cost or whether roaming fees will apply.
My favorite way to save money is to not go into any store without a plan -- whether it's the grocery store, the home store or a boutique. For instance, I go into a dress shop only when I need a dress for a specific event and after I've exhausted all resources first (thrift stores, friends, shopping my own closet). And I set a dollar amount for what I'll be spending that day before going into any store. I found this helps to know exactly what my mission is so that I don't end up spending more than my plan.
I do a mixture of shopping with coupons/sales and buying store brands. These days, they are just as good (and in my opinion, sometimes better than) name brands!
This would fall halfway between 11 and 12, but reducing alcohol intake and food costs is probably one of the largest hits on young and older budgets. I spent thousands of dollars on alcohol and terrible food throughout my college years, and now in my young professional years, I'm regretting not using it to pay loans and start a retirement account.
I use multiple ways to save money so that they all pile together into one big heap of money saved. Couponing, shopping the sales, stocking up on rock bottom prices, cooking at home/not eating out, walking to work, picking up returnable cans on my walk to work... Now that is double savings! Not only do I not spend gas, but I get some exercise with walking and I usually make a buck or two off of the cans. I also enter coke points/lean cuisine codes/Kellogg codes to get free Diet Coke/Lean Cuisine/Pop-tarts.
In terms of building a savings, I put aside 20% of my paycheck. I also save all my spare change in a jar and deposit that into my savings account once it is full.
Heard of the last three before, but the first six are gold. I'm especially liking the functionality of being able to schedule e-mails using boomerang. Surprised it's features aren't stock standard with gmail to be honest (or maybe they are, but just hidden under the hood).
My favorite way to save money is to switch off your heater, air-conditioner and lights in rooms you're not using. I use a window a/c and it saves me a ton of money.

What more we can do
. Take the free money and run
. Diversify but simplify
. Avoid too much company stock
. Up your ante

My favorite way is to automate a bi-weekly transfer into a special account I don't touch.

I read Wisebread to find out about the many ways that I can save money and then I actually use them in my daily life.

I love to shop deals and use coupons to save money whenever possible.
