Financial success is being able to live day to day without fear of losing any basic needs. Starting with no debt and efficient spending and living contribute to obtaining financial success.
To me it means being in no debt, have your home almost/partially paid off, having significant savings in the bank, some small investments, car paid off. All this to not worry about living pay check to pay check.
I like to believe that financial success is something that can happen over and over again. When you achieve a single financial goal, that is financial success. When you fully fund your Emergency Savings, when you erase credit card debt, when you begin maxing our an IRA. All of these are financial successes. And the small financial successes along the way, get your more motivated for big financial success...RETIREMENT!
Financial success to me is:
1. having no mortgage
2. having no car payments
3. having no credit card debt
4. having enough money to last the rest of my life (including long-term care insurance)
5. having enough money to buy what I want without going into debt
6. having the ability to assist my daughter with her life problems (financial)
7. having an estate plan that equally divides assets to daughter and two grandchildren when we no longer have financial needs.
I have too many, for various reasons~ I have 1 rewards card that I use for most purchases, plus 3 general cards. I keep one because it's my oldest card, though it has a low credit limit. There's 1 I use for balance transfers with zero interest (3% transfer fee) if my sons need to borrow money and pay it back. And 1 additional rewards card associated with stores where I shop.
I also have 2 cards for specific stores (Best Buy & Home Depot) that are used only for large purchases with long term no interest offers, when needed.
I generally only use the main rewards card, which is paid off every month. I never carry a balance, unless it's a zero interest offer, which is paid in full before it expires.
Since I know that no debt is not a reality for me anytime in my near future, I define financial success as the ability to take steps forward each month with debt reduction and savings. Seeing positive movement toward both is a constant work in progress, but totally worth it.
Blogging is definitely the toughest one on that list! All those nights that you'll stay up until 6am, listening to love songs while you attempt to pump an article out are draining!
The reason why people in America are fat is because you are living a life of historically unprecedent wealth and abundance. Never before has food been so easy to obtain. Our bodies evolved in an environment of scarcity. Dogs have been known to eat themselves to death if given the chance. We are animals too. Some hunter gatherer tribes don't eat every day. When they do catch a large animal they absolutely stuff themselves to the point of near explosion and immobility. There's not much refrigeration in some parts of Africa. If you are surrounded by food and you don't make a deliberate conscious effort to watch your wait and pay attention to nutritional issues You Will Get Fat. End of story. Stress, anxiety and depression may make skinniness not the highest priority in your life. There is no way of losing weight which doesn't involve feeling hungry. If you're already struggling with work, school, relationships, family, etc... Do you really want to add hunger to that struggle? Probably not. Hence, the fat.
Lets all be grateful that we're not starving to death. Problems of the rich....
These are great. I like doing treats because one or two batches covers everyone. I've also done the lottery tickets for friends and family, makes it a cheap and fun "experience" gift.
Nearly 30 years as a radio and television news personality. I got old. Too old for local news outlets. Became a documentary producer. That gig ran out of money. Today, I'm a hired man on a farm. I've gone from a 5-figure a year job to a 4-figure a year job. It's hard work. It's demeaning work. It's meant for men half my age. But it's a job. It's an income without benefits, without a lunch break, without overtime.
I define financial success on several basic levels... 1st having no debt (other than a mortgage); 2nd is spending less than you make and having an emergency fund; 3rd is having retirement savings; 4th is having a house that's paid off.
Being comfortable with your expenses in every day life and not panicking when something goes wrong is a good indication...
I define financial success as someone that has no major debt aside from education a home or car and has financial plan for their money like retirement accounts and good savings account Basically someone who can live today and still have tomorrow taken care of
To me, financial success is feeling like I have the freedom to make the choices I actually want to make. To take the job I enjoy, to live in the place that makes me happy and feels like home. Take time off or pursue other passions.
To be financially successful is to be debt free, owning where you live in full, being able to pay your bills, have some of your wants, and able to generously give to others.
I buy/sell stuff on Amazon/ebay and get as many as 75 emails a day. Between my two main accounts, I have about 1,000 messages saved. With so many similar messages, search pretty much is useless after about that point. I get billing notices (but without amounts, are pretty much pointless) shipping information (after the item is delivered, I really don't need to know that anymore...and if I really do...can look it up elsewhere). Getting maybe 20,000 emails a year... and after a week, maybe 70% are still relevant, 2 weeks, 30% and maybe 0.5% after a year. I don't willy-nilly delete emails...and after 16 years haven't really wished I hadn't deleted something that I did.

My lil bro also received a NetSpend MasterCard in the mail and I found it weird because he is only 13 years old. Thanks for your story
