We know all about your blog! We were on it last night. Love what you're doing and you're a true inspiration to aspiring bloggers. It's funny that you commented on this post today as we were literally introduced to your blog this week :)
Keep up the incredible work. Would be cool to meet up somewhere on the road one day.
Thanks for reading and great question. We are firm believers that passive income is the best way to go. Freelance writing isn't as passive, but when you get to write on excellent blogs like WiseBread and link back to your own blog, it definitely helps the traffic, which in turn can help with affiliate sales and product sales.
For income without hours spent on the computer... affiliates are the way to go. Our best affiliates include World Nomads, SiteGround, MyTefl.net (Tefl Courses), and HostelWorld. These along earn us a couple thousand some months and they earn while we're asleep.
The key is to know what your readers want when they come to the pages on your site. Find a page where they're on the final stages of booking, purchasing or reserving and you can make big money from it.
Contrary to popular belief, traffic numbers don't matter so much. The key is to have a niche and know your readers very well. If you're looking for passive income, I would say you should look at where your readers are on your site, how they browse it and where you can place affiliate links to make sales.
It will take a lot of tinkering before you get it bang on, but once you do... it can be a total jackpot. I know one blogger who makes $3000 / month from 3 articles alone that simply have great placement of affiliate links.
The first? Garbage collector. They used to wire the most interesting stuff on their truck grills. Then drafter, then scientific photographer, then research geneticist. I ended up as a graphic designer.
I have been able to live my childhood dream job - being a full-time homemaker and mother. It hasn't always been easy living on one income, but I'm frugal by nature, so that has never bothered me...in fact, I've loved the challenge. I've never regretted that I chose to stay home to raise my kids - it was a privilege and a joy.
Now that I have an empty nest, I'm trying to figure out the next phase of my life. Way back before I met my husband, I thought if I never married I would have to come up with an alternative career, but I'd never really settled on any one thing. My husband has his own business and I do the bookkeeping for that. I'm thinking about doing some online writing to earn some additional income. Maybe I'll send in something to Wise Bread one of these days. Lol.
I always wanted to write jingles for commercials. Since I was 5-6 I would memorize and sing all the jingles around the house. To this day I still love jingles. Im not sure what happened to that dream.
Thanks for the comment Gail and thanks for reading!
