I do volunteer, for the local non-profit Hospice, as a patient visitor and helper. Hospice has lots of different ways to volunteer, helping patients, being a respite to the caregiver, visiting hospice patients in nursing homes, and even caring for the pets of patients. I also volunteer in the handbell choir at church. I volunteer because my 'to pay the bills' job is not an area of work I find meaningful, so it helps me feel better about how I'm spending my time on earth. Love Wise Bread, great site!
"What Mittens is indirectly teaching you with this type of sleeping pattern is how to be a rational investor." Seriously?!! I like a bit of whimsy but basing financial advice off your pet is ridiculous. Considering they don't know what to do with toilet paper I think its more than a stretch to believe they don't fear failure. You have no idea what a pet is thinking or even what their capacity for emotion is!
I ran into this report recently too and did hours of research to find new sunblock, bath wash, shampoo, and skin care products that didn't contain dangerous chemicals. It was HARD. I finally settled on 100% Pure products which has nice texture and safe ingredients.
Suncreen works well on me. I have read many magazines and books saying that it helps avoid getting sunburn and other skin diseases. Good Lord, i don't want skin cancer. LOL
I have always volunteered with my children's schools: PTA, Class Mom, tutor. But for the last 7 years I have worked in the main office of the high school every Monday morning. I enjoy it and hope I am lessening the workload for the very busy staff. It has also given me a very interesting and balanced perspective of high school.
You're not taking into account that if you have $535 of your take home pay to either invest in a 401K or pay off debt. You actually can invest at least $713 a month in the 401K since it is pretax if you are in the 25% tax bracket (535/.75). If you assume 6% state taxes, the amount you could invest goes up to $775(535 /.69).
Nice idea to use wood chips BUT they should'nt really be used around a house's foundation as they deplete ground phosphorous and attract TERMITES. Use "leaf mold" from chopped, raked leaves (which you can often find for free from a town's recycling). This will enhance the soil and not attract pests.
I know, it's so annoying! That's why I prefer to frequent true thrift stores instead of "boutique" thrift stores. And I always do an Internet search on my smartphone if I come across an unfamiliar brand!
I have volunteered for the local Humane Society for several years. It's something I really enjoy doing and get at least as much out of it as the animals do. I've also volunteered a bit with different hospitals and food banks as part of getting experience in my field, which has taught me a lot and exposes me to all kinds of areas within the field. I highly recommend volunteering to everyone, it just takes finding the right opportunity.
Great read! One thing I've noticed though is that some thrift stores are getting wise to designer labels and are raising prices on those items. You have to be careful on pricing to make sure you are getting your money's worth even on second-hand items. It helps if you have a good idea of what the item cost when new too.
I've been using AllData for a few years now. It's helpful, but a more accurate name would be SomeData...
I don't volunteer regularly, but I want to get more involved in some community activities, particularly around helping underserved youth.

Yeah I really love to travel to Europe too work, it very amazing
I was rather skeptical. I've seen far too many "Ingredient X is evil! Buy this 'natural' product that doesn't have it!".

Not regularly but I do volunteer especially around the holidays.

Kelly--Go for it! I hope you get your invented job.
Patty-- I am so glad you are inspired! Thank you for your nice comment.
Mary Ellen--so happy I could give Bob a shout out for his help!
I volunteer although not regularly. I do donate money and goods though regularly.

I volunteer with several local organizations. Great way to meet people and help others at the same time!
Between work, school, housework and errands, I don't have the time or energy these days.
Not currently, I have helped some in the past.
Cindy, this is a great example of how you can save a ton of money if you are willing to negotiate on price!
No as a single mother with a young son I don't have the time.
Get financially strained out
