Dumpster diving, hunting, fishing, having a garden, wow where have you been? Today it is illegal to dumpster dive, get caught you are going to jail, then you have a criminal record, good luck finding a good job with that. When was the last time you went hunting? Hunting is so regulated now by the government, good luck finding game that is legal to hunt, and good luck finding enough game to actually feed your family without poaching, again illegal and you face huge fines and a criminal record if you are caught. Gardening, I would love to see your house, when was the last time you looked at modern housing, with 12 houses being built on every acre of land show me where you are going to plant a garden. The home owners associations will not allow you to do anything in your own front yard and you really do not have a back yard. The government has made bartering illegal, it is called tax evasion, unless of course you are claiming income based on your bartering and you have a permit from your state to barter with other people. So all your attempts to try and point out other ways to live cheaply are all illegal unless you pay the government money to be able to do those things, unless of course you want to break the law and end up with a criminal record.

Not all people are afforded the opportunity to go to school and live the life of luxury as you must have had. Some people have had to quit school to get a job so they could help their single mother pay the bills. It would be interesting to know at what age you entered the work force, my guess would be your mid 20's, what hardships have you faced? I do not think any. When you have to quit high school to support a family because your father was killed by a drunk driver and your mother is supporting 4 kids by herself and can not afford to pay for the basics, then you can judge people about not getting a college education. When you have to hunt your own food and grow your own food just to survive then you can judge, when the only new clothes you ever purchase comes from the Goodwill, then you can judge. When you have lived someone elses life then you can judge until then it is best you leave your judgment where it belongs, the trash can!

  • Avoid These 5 Common Holiday Budget Pitfalls   10 years 32 weeks ago

During the holiday's emotional high, I have seen many people spend more than they wanted to, or spend more than they thought they did because they failed to keep an eye on their buying and treating and gift-giving. True, you earn money to spend on yourself and your loved ones, and you are using that money only to heighten your happiness during the holidays, but if it means you'll spend the next month in regret, then it definitely wasn't worth it.

  • 30 Signs That You Were Raised by Frugal Parents   10 years 32 weeks ago

I grew up country and did not have AC or a heater in the house so I am still not used to either thing. If we wanted heat in the house, we were told to go chop some wood for the wood stove and in the event that you were the only one home, it was your job to keep the fire going all day long in winter otherwise the house was freezing later on. We have chickens for eggs, bees for honey, cows for homegrown beef, two gardens, we still can things and I have not bought jam for the past 20 years. We made it. You wanted something and didn't want to pay for it, you were asked if it was a NEED or WANT. If it was a WANT, you went and earned the moeny yourself. If it was a NEED and not an urgent one, you earned half the money. You also have only spent $10,000 total on purchasing 9 vehicles and you can fix them yourself. There were eight of us in the house and even now when I live on my own, I still do almost all of that list. It's great!

  • 8 Vile Craigslist Scams to Watch Out For   10 years 32 weeks ago

A big one you're missing which is quite frequent, is the send your full name and address so I can send you a money order in 3, or more days. The text or email usually comes after a message of do you still have it?

You've probably shown a picture of something outdoors or on a porch. A roving band a thieves wants a nice big list of addresses they can visit at night in the next few days and pick up lots of things in your area..on the five finger discount.

Who doesn't negotiate? Also if this is a text, you'll usually notice this one came from an area code..way..way away from you, like 3 states over. That's because they're doing this from a no contract phone that's untraceable. I get this one a lot and think it should be your number 1! BTW the cops act oblivious to any of these scams. and if you try to PRE-warn them they don't follow up or care. I had the same guy trying to lure me to several different inner city locations to deliver to him because I had several sets of tires and he didn't know I was the owner of all of them. So he tried several times! The cops didn't care when I called them said they hadn't had any problems, even though the police blotter mentions several people having this happen to them, and I've got to think he has some success in mugging people who stupidly show up.
