  • 10 Things You Should Never Buy at the Dollar Store (and 10 You Should)   10 years 50 weeks ago

I would rethink the list. I would never buy glassware, plasticware, and now add toxic crayons to the list. There is no telling how much lead, or other heavy metals are in the glass or how much bpa is in the plasticware. I'm just creeped out at the thought of what might be in almost any foreign product that you could buy there other than hangers and clothes pins. Cadmium childrens' jewelry, melamine baby formula and cough syrup, and now toxic crayons are proof enough that people over there either just don't give a damn, or are waging some form of strange economic warfare where they try to bankrupt us by poisoning an entire generation of children.

I cannot agree. we were poisoned by some of the glassware at Dollar Tree and since then learned that 81% of the products they sell that were tested ARE POISONOUS.

  • How to Sell Your Hair for Cash   10 years 50 weeks ago

Growing your hair for donation to charity is great, but growing it to sell? I'm not so sure. If it took me four years to grow a luscious head of long gorgeous locks, am I going to sell it? Heck no. Especially if I found out it was worth 1000. I'd even want to keep my hair more.

  • What to Know When Renting a Moving Truck   10 years 50 weeks ago

I love the picture at the top about swearing at your heavy furniture! Moving is always such a struggle, and I'm thinking about getting some movers this time around. We're moving across the states, so I will have to rent a moving van one way. It's good to know that some places hold reservations and others don't. Thanks for all the great truck rental information!

  • 8 Vile Craigslist Scams to Watch Out For   10 years 50 weeks ago

I have been advertising a car on CL and I am getting a lot of texts from people who want to make a deal now, without a test drive, without seeing the car, and want me to get paid through paypal. I am being told that a person will come to transport the vehicle, and that I should give my address.

No one will call me so I can hear their voice. Not that I am worried about accents, just I want to hear them. I have received something similar to this 3 times. Does anyone know what this is?

  • How to Eat Well on Just $20 a Week (With Meal Plans!)   10 years 50 weeks ago

Please tell us where you live because food here in my neck of the woods, the Las Vegas valley, costs twice this. A bag of apples for $1.49? I can buy ONE apple for $1.10. A jar of pnut butter under $3? Wow. I need to move. I do appreciate the article, though. I'm a vegetarian and looking around for tips to stretch my money. Thanks!

We have two dogs -- both female long-haired dachshunds -- and three cats. They were all rescues. It's definitely expensive having them, but I wouldn't want to live without them. They have very distinct personalities, but they are all so sweet and loving. Our biggest regular expensive for them is food, which runs around $150 a month, as one of the dogs and one of the cats have food allergies, followed by vet care. Keeping them well-fed, flea-free and healthy costs about $250 a month, all told. And I do have to clean house a lot -- the pet hair tumbleweeds can get unreal if I don't -- but that just goes along with having pets.

I have two cats, and my husband has a large dog. We believe in keeping costs down by keeping our animals up-to-date with vaccinations and feeding them quality food.

I would complain about the hotel room right away to management, hopefully that would get a change of room, a hefty discount and an immediate visit from housekeeping.

My husband and I have a 7 year old long hair dachshund/chihuahua name Sadie who I rescued on Christmas two years ago. She is a true fur-baby. I love that she is always so excited to see me when I come home and can't wait to give me sweet cuddles. The most expensive thing about having a dog is the vet bills. Especially for a first time pet owner sometimes its hard to distinguish what is an emergency and what is temporary. I've found its really important to find a vet you trust and make sure you're up front with what you can afford! A lot of times I'll ask..."is there an at home alternative I can try first" and there usually is :)

  • 7 Things Non-Members Can Get at Costco (Including Cheap Eye Exams!)   10 years 50 weeks ago

I was told today, in the Bend OR Hearing Aid Center, that a membership was needed to have a hearing test and to purchase hearing aids. Can you you give me a Federal Law reference, that I can show them, Damian?

  • 7 Things Non-Members Can Get at Costco (Including Cheap Eye Exams!)   10 years 50 weeks ago

Where can I obtain proof that Costco has to give a hearing test to a non-member? I went to the Costco Hearing Aid Center today and tried to make an appointment for my son (age 57). I was told he had to be a member to have the test, and they would not allow him to have an appointment.

  • Top 7 Reasons Why I Use My Credit Card for Everything   10 years 50 weeks ago

I agree with your post completely! I have just started buying mostly with using credit cards. I will be getting the rewards coming back to me soon, just buy what you normally would buy anyway, and you should be fine unless your the type that will overindulge. If you are, you should cut up your cards.

Very nice article. Thank you for taking the time to write it. I believe Locks of Love charges for their wigs, though. Wig for Kids is an organization who makes completely free wigs with the donated hair for children. I have donated mine to them several times and gotten a thank you letter, which I certainly wasn't expecting but thought it was a nice gesture.

  • Inside the Shady World of Cheap iTunes Gift Cards   10 years 50 weeks ago

I recommend using itunes-giftcards.com. They protect you against fraud and verify all of you information and have really good customer service. It's so much easier than ordering from websites like ebay, they email the code directly to your email. I've been using it since last year and I'm never going back to those other fishy sites!

  • 4 Mobile Phone Upgrades That Aren't Worth the Money   10 years 50 weeks ago

Re: int'l data plans. At least in Asia, getting a local sim card is less than a dollar, easily purchased at airport arrivals terminals. I've used the gamut of services for $5-10 on a two week stay in any country (calls and texts, google maps, skyping, Facebook uploads etc)

We have one dog and two cats. The first cats medical has by far been the most expensive. Unfortunately, we did not learn pf his very extensive list of allergies until after he had a very costly surgery. Since changing his diet, he has been much healthier.
