thought i was done yesterday till we got home and realized we missed a few things... sigh. now have to go back out to find the missing items. Thanks for the opportunity!!
Honestly, I'd say I still do about 70% of these! Haha, and what's funny is that I didn't know that some people don't! For exmaple, bringing snacks to the movie theater -- who doesn't do that??? It makes sense!
I like to buy high quality stuff and make it last (http://mreverydaydollar.com/buy-high-quality/). What I've found is that if I have a problem with something, a reputable company will stand behind their products and either fix the issue or replace it for free. Try that with some no-name company and see how far you get!
I'm starting grad school this fall, so I have a fair bit of back to school shopping to do. This weekend I finished buying books, but I still need to grab a few pens, binders, hole-punches, etc. I'm hoping to finish up this weekend!
Thanks Veronica. Since I live in Wyoming I'm finding that the cooler it is the harder it is to get out of bed and get outside. I think I'll need to consider a gym membership :).
There is no way to finish, everytinme you think you have everything the kid needs for school, the Teacher sends home another list with more stuff added.
We finished our back to school shopping about a month before the school year began last week. The most expensive item, or category, were the clothes my daughter needed.
I have one...stop buying disposable products. Use cotton or microfiber cloths instead of paper towels, cloth napkins instead of paper, (I have found them new with the tags in thrift stores, and found them crisp and new in my grandmother's cupboards), use your plates and cups, get a nice steel lined to-go mug.
I save my loose change and put it through Coin Star for Amazon gift cards. They do not charge for counting the change if you get certain gift cards. I also carry pennies in my wallet so that I get only silver change back.
Also, if you have 5¢ or 10¢ recycling in your state...take your bottles and cans back. You paid the deposit, get your money back!
We really don't do back to school shopping since we're homeschoolers, but I have all their books and some new clothes for fall that fit, since they've grown over the summer, again! :) It's one more way that I LOVE homeschooling!
I agree with most of these, except for the beauty products in every situation. I have purchased shampoo at the dollar store, and when reading the ingredients list it actually had better, natural ingredients than the expensive brand that was sitting in my daughter's bathroom. I have also purchased store brand soap for the boys and my husband, and the ingredients were identical to their name brand counterparts.
The man who does my hair said to splurge on conditioner, which I do, and I won't skimp on moisturizers, especially for my face. Nor will I skimp on foundation and concealer. I have bought brushes and make-up sponges at Christmas Tree Shops and never had a problem.
The important thing to look at is the ingredients list. There are certain things they put in there that you just don't want touching your skin.
I have finished almost all of my back to school shopping, except for jeans. I always wait until August for jeans because there are usually many B1G1 free sales.
Follow this recipe if you want to go blind. It does not remove methanol, which boils at 148-149F. Keep temp at 153ish for a bit until nothing comes out anymore. Dump what you got already. Then bring up to 173F. Collect your shine and do again to remove all methanol(and maybe again, XXX means triple distilled)[dont leave unattended. be careful for flashpoint/auto-ignition]. A lot of net sites about this are a trap
What's wrong with saving bacon grease? I live with and was raised by my grandma who did that all the time and as long as you don't keep it for too long it's actually tastes pretty good when you use it to fry other stuff

I have finished shopping for everything they NEED but will probably pick up a shirt or two more just to give me a buffer with the laundry. =)

All finished - most expensive item was clothing - yikes!
Great article!

Yes. done.

Almost never. We cook at home mostly.

How about a debit card instead? My debit card works just fine reserving hotel rooms and rental cars. Plus no debt and no dumb annual fee.
