If your parents were involved in discussing juice boxes at all, they weren't that frugal - as we all know, if you have to buy juice, big bottles are the way to go. And much more environmentally conscious.
so i have pictures to take tomorrow (i just found out!) and i have naturally yellowish teeth does anyone have an idea for a method i can use tonight that may help my teeth look whiter tomorrow morning (i know about wearing darker lipstick but i dont wear lipstick) any ideas? and later this month i have pictures to take and a wedding to go to that i want my teeth to be whiter for....? also, i have naturally sensative teeth (sensitive to cold drinks and really hot drinks/foods) and i have had braces and may need them again if that makes a difference.... any ideas? thanks!
It would make alot of sense to bring snacks to the movie, everything is ridiculously costly at the movie, but if you get caught, they will through you out of the movie. Make sure you hide your food if you eat it while the lights are still on. ;-)
Great list! This article is pretty much an all-inclusive list on the easiest ways to save money!
I have to say though, that buying store brand food is not always the cheapest. Sometimes, stores offer sales on brand name foods that make them cheaper than the store brand. If you use a coupon, you can get these on-sale foods dirt cheap. It's unlikely to find coupons for store brands. Also, sometimes you can do better buying in bulk, sometimes not. It's really best to compare each item on an individual basis, by checking the unit price, to ensure you're getting the best deal.
I agree with another commenter, make your own laundry detergent. It's super easy and you can make a large batch for hardly any money at all. I just wrote a blog post about how to make laundry detergent (including 8 laundry detergent recipes) at http://bowlfullofgiggles.com/how-to-make-laundry-detergent
Great tips! I had no idea a well-stocked fridge could reduce energy costs. I'll keep that in mind. Also, I realized I really need to clean my refrigerator's coils. My fridge is pretty old and hasn't been cleaned in the 2 years since we moved in. Oops!
Great suggestions! I totally agree with date night as always worth the splurge. It's totally worth it to reconnect with your significant other, with the demands of kids and housework. It's totally worth it to indulge in romance once in a while to keep the relationship strong.
Great ideas! The outdoors hold limitless opportunities for fun activities. And they're all the better because they're free! My favorite way to enjoy the outdoors is to take a long walk or hike. Not only is it great being outside and breathing in the fresh air, but it's exercise too - like killing too birds with one stone (though I don't recommend doing that on your hike lol). My favorite place to be outside is at the beach. Though it's not always free here in NJ, when it is (in the off season or at night) it's usually the least crowded and it's the perfect place to take a nice long, relaxing walk. Win win!
Great ideas! I bring a lot of these items with me whenever I go anywhere with my toddler son. He's always in need of a snack when we're out and about, so this list is perfect for us! He also likes dried cranberries and these are easy to throw in a bag and take with you as well. That sun tea idea is pretty cool - I've never thought of that before! We'll have to try that out one day :)
I'm still picking up little things along the way, with some of the amazing doorbuster sales. I don't have any little ones in school, but I have a close friend who's a teacher and she and her students are really appreciative of my efforts.
I'm always intrigued by these lists but am frequently depressed by them too. It is not ALWAYS about saving money. I'm as frugal as the next person but there are times when it's necessary to keep people employed so that we can all some day afford to retire.
I'm a librarian and I'm delighted to see you mention people using libraries. That is always a win/win move. However, my husband is a newspaper reporter and, frankly, telling people to drop their newspaper and magazine subscriptions is just not a good idea. It is largely newspapers that have kept all corporations and levels of government honest for years. You really want that to go away?
And, as far as forgoing a stamp and not using the post office, I completely disagree. The post office employs a HUGE amount of people and if they were to vanish, imagine what this country would do with that quantity of unemployed people.
I think it's a good idea to be mindful of your own neighbor's pocketbook too!
This is a great post, Anna. We get caught up in so much complex money stuff- but seriously, one of the best ways to do well financally is to save some money-- and time!
And I thought my parents were frugal for always buying the "cheap" toilet paper (personally, I think the super-fluffy stuff feels weird). This is the next level!
I have to insist on brand name power tools. For years I bought harbor freight tools and black and decker products. They are junk, break easy, and wear out easy. I love my Milwaukee impact driver and drill. If you wait till fathers day and black friday you can often get great deals on them.
I have been struggling to change my life since the death of my husband. He started me down the road of being a servant of slave masters before he suffered the strokes
that eventually killed him. He wanted to live for free, and the only way he could do this
was to sale my freedom in exchange for housing and utilities. When I was ready to relocate us, seeing the lady he endentured me to, had violated the agreement he made with her, several times, when his disability checks arrived, I got us out of there.
She had already planned to take the money that he was getting, trying to say we owed her for the utilities. I want to be free again.
I have finished buying all of the clothing items that my daughter needs except for socks and anything her teachers say she needs for school supplies. She will be shopping at home first for those. We have more mismatched sets of colored pencils and markers than I care to admit.

Yes, thankfully I am done! Now on to the holiday season LOL! :)

If by "back to school shopping" you mean, "bought another notebook for work" then YES, I have finished my shopping.
Yes we have!

I also like you on Facebook.
Got the all-important kindergarten backpack, but there is one thing on the list left. A box of 5 oz. cups.
I have finished buying all of the clothing items that my daughter needs except for socks and anything her teachers say she needs for school supplies. She will be shopping at home first for those. We have more mismatched sets of colored pencils and markers than I care to admit.
Not finished school shopping quite yet..
I'm not done yet.
