    Either eBay or Craigslist.

My first try is with rehash (rehashclothes.com) for clothes, books, etc. I've gotten some really cool stuff this way. Otherwise I try eBay or Craigslist. If it really isn't with anything I donate it.

To add to my previous comment on rice: Choosing rice is very confusing in terms of Glycemic Index (GI) and Glycemic Load (GL)) because there are is an incredibly large variety of rice with GIs ranging from low to intermediate to high, not to mention a wide range of GLs, so it is very hard to generalize about rice. Some noteworthy points: Asian restaurant rice is usually very high GI and should be avoided. Basmati rice has medium GI but high GL, thus not good. On the other hand, Uncle Ben’s Converted Rice is low GI, medium GL. High-amylose white rice (27% amylose) has a low GI (under 40) and medium GL (mid-teens). Rice that sticks, clumps together after cooking is low-amylose, having high GI. Long-grain rice varieties typically are low GI, medium GL, although there are high GI varieties. Brown rice also comes in many varieties and the overall data I’ve seen is not particularly good, with most brown rice medium to high GI, but medium GL. If you want some more confusion, a research article in the Archives of Internal Medicine (June 14, 2010) states that an analysis of three studies with over 200,000 participants shows eating white rice increases incidence of diabetes, while eating brown rice decreases incidence of diabetes, which seems to fly in the face of the GI/GL data I have seen. Perhaps the explanation is that most white rice that is consumed is the high GI/GL kind (Asian restaurant type), while most of the brown rice is the kind with no more than a medium GL, which, keeping the GL to intermediate level may be enough to be beneficial.

White figs (the skin is green) are a little different from the black figs discussed in the article. If they are wrinkled, they've lost too much moisture. They should be plump, no wrinkles, soft but not squashy, and have a sweet smell. My family has had white fig trees for over 50 years, and they're best right off the tree (even if you have to evict an ant or two from the center), and unless there are ants around I don't even bother to peel kadotas - pop off the stem and into your mouth!

  • 8 Simple Auto Repairs That Save Big Bucks in the Long Haul   13 years 39 weeks ago

It's CarMD, they are notoriously a bad source. The only time you pay that much is if a dealer, or repair shop, has your car and holds it hostage because you've broken down!

Wow - $314.67 for plugs and wires? Whoever quoted that (unless you're driving a v-12 Jaguar) is insane. In the last 6 months I replaced the plugs and wires in both of my cars (a RAV 4 and a Miata) for less than $100 each, and that includes premium wires and platinum plugs for the Miata. Do this one yourself and tell whoever quoted you that to pound sand. Just don't forget to gap the plugs!

  • The Freedom of a Debt-Free Life   13 years 39 weeks ago

Debt never made sense to me. If you have to put something on credit or finance something, you cannot afford it. You may have to use debt in the beginning to such as a student loan or business loan. But your goal should be to pay it off as fast as possible when you get income coming in and then using the money you make to create wealth.

Debt should always be used for appreciable assets and never for liabilities or depreciating assets

  • Ask the Readers: How Do You Get Rid of Your Unwanted Stuff?   13 years 39 weeks ago

Oh man, at the moment, Ive got three methods going for getting rid of my stuff this week:
    1. I'm selling a tennis racket on eBay.
    2. I'm taking my old clothing and towels to the farmer's market on Saturday, where a charity accepts donations and sorts items that are a)still useable for sale in thrift stores b)stained and torn for shredding and use as bedding and insulation.
    3. I'm using the old "send it to the curb and some other Brooklynite will happen by and take it" method.

I sell books at used bookstores and via half.com and amazon marketplace. I sell household goods and clothes via Facebook, Craigslist, and via consignment stores around town. Anything that doesn't sell within 1-4 weeks gets donated to a local youth homeless shelter and other progressive organizations.

We're actually in he process of doing all of this right now in earnest.

  • Is MagicJack a Scam?   13 years 39 weeks ago

After paying for MagicJack for 3 years and using it and having the same number for 2 years, without any warning they deactivated my number and gave me some 010056**** number. It's not even real telephone number. When dialed you get a message that my call can’t be completed as dial.
And everybody calling my old number has to hear how great MajickJack is. And that this number is free for taken.
After trying to resolve the problem chatting, because this is the only way one can communicate with them, here is the most I could get:
"as i have checked it here in our end, the phone number 786-***-*** was been deactivated in your account and it switches to the number 010056****. As i have also checked it here, Our Departments are reviewing the account.. As the Account is under review, you will not be able to place any order for the time being as the review will have to go under process (review protocol).. "
But I don't want to order anything. I already paid you for my number.
The chat person answer " Please extend your patience as this Review is done every account to retain account Integrity and Security.. I cannot assure you with the time frame but the report has been processed with High Priority.." ” For now, I will be doing a report regarding with your issue"
I don’t care about “reports”. Let me talk to a manager.
" I will make a report regarding with this matter and it will be forwarded on our higher department" ” this issue will be reviewed for the resolution. please do check on your email account the notification will be sent in there". END of chat.
Exactly the same chat happened 3 weeks ago, and it just repeating again.
And of course nobody is contacting me and I still cant use my MajicJack.
So think twice before ordering one.
If anybody is interested, I have the complete transcript of my chat with "Joan".

I sell my unwanted books, magazines, DVDs, CDs, etc. to Half Price Books. I sell unwanted clothing and accessories to stores like Plato's Closet, Clothes Mentor, Once Upon a Child, etc. I have a garage sale once every few years. If I can't get rid of it any of these ways, and no one else I know wants it, it gets donated to Goodwill.

  • How to Get a Lower APR, or Possibly Not   13 years 39 weeks ago

    Um. No. LOL?

  • How to Get a Lower APR, or Possibly Not   13 years 39 weeks ago

You mentioned that one and seven were the only numbers available on cap one's screen in only that order sarcastically. Would you prefer to have the numbers reversed for a 71% APR? LOL

  • Should You Become a Landlord Instead of Selling Your Home?   13 years 39 weeks ago

I think most of the possible negatives are outweighed by the positives, especially for anyone whose underwater in their current situation. Just ride out the current market, and trust that better days lie ahead.

  • Ask the Readers: How Do You Get Rid of Your Unwanted Stuff?   13 years 39 weeks ago

I host a rapid fast-moving "clean out your junk day" with friends. We all go to the 1st friends home for 1--1 1/2 hrs, help her clean out her problem area...wether it be a garage, pantry, linen closet, kids room etc... The deal is..Items that are cleaned out...are TAKEN OUT of the house!! Then on to house #2....we repeat this until everyone has an area cleaned out. THIS IS SO MUCH FUN! One has to clean quickly (no time to think "will i use this soon?" as many hands carry out what ever you say "i don't want that" Right then & there!) the items are removed from the home..and everyone takes what they want from the "cast-offs"... anything not taken by anyone is donated to a church run thrift store! A swapping of items, a clean area & fun with friends...whats not to like about this!!!

  • Suze Orman's Approved Card Gets Mixed Reviews and Controversy   13 years 39 weeks ago

Souljarette, Sorry you were caught in that position, but it seems to me that this mishap was clearly your own fault. Why cancel your previous card BEFORE receiving the new card with your married name? And then, try to use it. To me, if you requsted a card be cancelled, it's cancelled. How do you cancel a card and then use it? Could you have just did a name change on the current card? You are understandably pissed but I don't think the blame is with the card company. Just my opinion.

Wow, maybe it's just better buying a new car every few months. Replacing all that stuff sounds like what a chain store mechanic would say!

Exercise can be dangerous when your blood sugar is high, too. But I agree that discipline is key.

  • 13 Natural and Easy Ways to Lower Your Blood Sugar   13 years 39 weeks ago

Diabetes is a common illness nowadays. it's easy to keep up with and live a normal life, only if you have SELF-DISCIPLINE. that's what makes it hard, that 2 words is hard to follow. Every thing you said is true and very helpful. I have type 1 and I don't take medication at all. when my blood sugar gets to high, I exercise and it works like wonder. Cardio and aerobic. Do not exercise when your blood sugar is low or barely normal coz it will get too low. Poorly controlled blood sugar can damage your organs overtime, monitor and take care of it and you will be fine.
