My blood sugar levels are at about 300 in the morning rising to 500 at night. I weigh 110 lbs so don't want to lose weight. Metmorfin does nothing and insulin at night just succeeds in lowering blood sugar level to 200 in the morning (sometimes!) I have an awareness of my feet and legs all the time - not pain and not numbness but most unpleasant. I have now come off all meds but wonder if I've done the right thing. I don't want to speak to my doctor as she is unclear what I should do. I went into hospital in Peru a year ago as I had broken my hip. They brought my blood sugar down very quickly before the op and I couldn't see! They gave me a very strange epidural(like a pincushion) and that's when my legs started being funny so that problem may be nothing to do with diabetes. I am a very nervous 65-year old! Does anybody have experience of blood sugar rising by over 100 following eating 2 slices of whole wheat bread?
I used to shop ebay, many years ago. I also used it to sell a lot of the collectibles I no longer wanted when I went minimal. However, now I try not to buy much of anything, and when I do, I go either local or thrift.
Great points but some things I disagree with slightly. For one, interest should not always be the focus point of your attempt to plug financial leaks. Say you have a mortgage with a 4% interest rate. Can you save money by paying it off early? Yes. What if you invested that money instead? With a long-term return for the market at around 8-10%, you're basically throwing away 4-6% additional return. Is there some risk? Yes, and the 4% savings from the home loan is guarantee, but if you take no financial risk in life you will likely never have that much wealth to worry about anyway.
Also, as far as gym memberships goes, a better way to go about it than canceling it is to start using it again. At $60 a month, if you keep actively going to the gym and you stay healthy, $60 a month is a BARGAIN compared to the health costs you'll have later on if you don't take care of your body.
Unfortunately in todays low interest rate environment, safe and consistent fixed income returns are approx. 4 percent (after tax or tax free). $500,000 x .4% = $20,000 per year. $1,000,000 x .4% = $40,000 per year. Realistically it will take a lot to retire comfortably with little to no risk to your savings, without taking into consideration other factors such as inflation.
Good article and you covered a lot of important points. If I could add one thing to the training topic it would be that you are NEVER done training a dog. Training is a life time commitment and responsibility that starts the minute you bring a dog home.
Also, I think people buy little dogs because they think that they won't need as much training and effort because if their little dog bites someone at least it won't seriously hurt or potentially kill someone. I can't count how many times I have been walking my two American Bulldogs (they each weight about 100 lbs each) and we are charged by a snarling and overly aggressive poodle or other small dog and the owners of these dogs just sit there and chuckle and think it is cute. However, if my dogs were to even growl at these little monsters - all of a sudden I would be labeled as the lady with the dangerous dogs.
I cringe when people remark "what good dogs you have" they didn't come to me that way, it has taken hundreds of hours of training and discipline to make them good dogs.
I would rephrase #5 as "Find the most cost-effective approach to fitness and health that works for you". For some people that could be biking to work, for others it could be finding an exercise buddy and getting back into the gym and putting that paid membership to use. Good health is a good money saver. Those prescription co-pays for blood pressure and/or diabetes meds add up.
Happy fourth of July! Great minds think alike as I wrote a similar article today about financial independence from my parents and some tips. I definitely try to stay away from being dependent on others.
Make sure everything is out in the open and budget for all things that both people find necessary (home, cars, cable tv, electricity etc) and savings goals. With what is left over divide it up between the preference categories of yourself and your partner. I don't care anything about decorations but my girlfriend doesn't care about video games. She can use her preference money for decorations and I can use mine for games :)
I used to use eBay all of the time, but I prefer Amazon now that I am a prime member. I know if I buy a prime item, it will be on my door step in two days.
Financial success or failure is often the result of attitudes both conscious and unconscious that affect our behavior. No amount of budgeting and self control can help us when we are up against ingrained ideas about money management, spending, and debt.
I use ebay to find and buy vintage sewing patterns I can't find elsewhere. I've also found great buys on other items, such as books.

I occasionally sell on eBay, but I mostly just buy. I've found good deals on coupons and pet supplies in particular.
I was thinking about a patio set, but now I may just wait until October!
Water is by far the worst substitute for caffeine in this list. I don't yet understand why so many people want to cut down on caffeine.

I do occasionally. I used to a lot more, their fees for selling are kind of ridiculous now.
I usually only sell on ebay. You can find everything on there though.
Different people with different symptom and different result.
I am hungry and I exercise and my blood sugar high.
You need to find out what is work best for you and not your doc.
I enjoyed read this blog and learn some ideas which is good for me.
We use Ebay regularly. In fact we just sold 3 items on there this week!

I did use ebay back in high school and college but don't use it much anymore.

I have never sold anything on eBay, but I have bought some items. I got some great deals!
