This year we are making our own Valentine's Day Cards! We are also making our own romantic dinner at home and watching movies we received for Christmas for our "movie night"
Or you could just call the airline and ask. They all have toll free numbers.
Most airports also now have "cell phone lots" where you can park for free. Then when your friend or relative lands, they call your cell, and you go pick them up. Easy and cheap!
I bought 1 of those spiral index card book/thingys, stickers, and markers. On each index card, I wrote a different reason why I was in love with my boyfriend, then decorated each page with the stickers and little drawings. It ranged from simple things like "I love that you always open the door for me" to more dramatic, but it was all things that I really did love. Then I cooked an inexpensive meal of roasted chicken breasts, green beans, roasted potatoes and coconut cream pie (his favorite). I hardly ever cook and he had never gotten such a personal gift before so he enjoyed it all very much. That was like 4 years ago and he still has the index card book stashed in his desk drawer.
Plan a tour of all your romantic spots - where you met, went on your first date, first kissed, got engaged, and any other milestone from your relationship. You can even bring a picnic of foods you ate on those occasions.
I would love to be entered in the drawing. I would definetly use the dinner and movie coupons. I have two boys under 5 and a third boy due within the next few weeks. We could definetly use the coupons especially when this new baby comes and I run out of time to cook. Thanks
Well I always find that the best gifts in life are those that come from the heart. It's living the moments that make the memories. I always like to show my compassion with a romantic dinner. Home cooked id the best way to go and it's cheap. Also a nice V-Day pastry is nice. Also the best gift I have found has been a homemade card and flowers because it shows the time and heart put into it. Life is full of memories and the best memories are usually the simple ones
We have neighbors who are also good friends. Our daughters have grown up together. For Valentine's Day, we exchange babysitting with each other. For 2-3 hours, we watch their daughter so they can go out, and then they watch our daughter for 2-3 hours, so we can go out. My husband and I look for something inexpensive to do together - a picnic (if we are the first couple to go out and it's still light), one of the local events that is discounted to fill seats, etc. It's fun for all of us -- our daughters love it because they can be together for several hours, we love it because we can get away for an evening without spending money on sitters... a gift for all involved!
Remain single between Nov. 1 and Feb. 14th. No V-Day, Christmas, New Year's or Thanksgiving and maybe even a birthday. That will really help you save some $$$.
If your girlfriend or wife expects flowers for a day like this, find a location where you can buy them and deliver them yourself. Often that is much cheaper than a florist. Of course it is better to not spend your money on things that will be dead in a week, but sometimes that is not an option.
It may have been mentioned already but my frugal tip is to stay home and have dinner! My husband and I have never gone out to dinner ON Valentine's Day because everyone else is. The traffic and crowds are bad enough on regular days out, holidays just make it worse.
Plus I can spend a third (or less!) of what we would otherwise spend and still have a great dinner. :)
One of our favorite things to do is spend time alone together, unplugged. No computer, no tv, no kids. It allows us time to talk about things beyond the day-to-day routine, and really reconnect with each other. Money spent - just the gas to take the kids to Grandma's house!
My frugal Valentines day tip would be, stay at home and enjoy one another! Once the little ones are in bed, sit back watch a movie and cuddle. I think too much hype goes into things sometimes that we forget what it's all about-being together.
I enjoy ehow, and it's been the best online writing site I've found for ease of use and decent payment amount. I would say most people average $2 per article per month. Some more, some less.
The best way to celebrate Valentines Day involves a mix of kisses and hugs, a little bit of "tease" and a bit of perfume, and a simple, quiet dinner at home -- and sharing a bit of chocolate for a late-evening treat, before heading off for a warm snuggle.
THEN, once we get the kids out of "The Big Bed", we move along to the REST of the evening...
I wanted to say "the Pièce de résistance", but there's no résistance, actually, specifically in the English meaning of the word -- in the FRENCH meaning of the word, there's plenty of "résistance"!
Making the day specail it's always the way. Here's an easy way in doing so. get some rose pedals of the internet for 5 dollars decorate the bed get tee candles get purchase some strawberries and the chocolate to dipp the strawberries your self that would cost 8 dollars together get some nuevo (soft liquior) for 13.99 and you have your special cds and make it the best night.
Have a nice romantic dinner at home. Take the kids to grandma's overnight. Candles, wine....well, you get the idea :o)

I hope you don't mind that I took this from my own blog post on Frugal and Meaningful Valentine's Gift and Date Ideas.

Bring 3/4 cup of cream, or soy creamer if you don't use dairy, and 2 tablespoons of corn syrup or clover (mild) honey to a simmer.
Add 12 ounces of high quality chocolate chips or chopped bar chocolate. Stir until the chocolate has melted.
Add 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla and the optional flavoring of your choice. Mint or orange are great choices.
Remove from the heat and pour into a 9x9 inch pan and let cool. Congratulations! You have just made ganache.
Use a spoon to scrape up enough of the chocolate to make a ball about 1 inch in diameter. Roll it in powdered sugar or cocoa powder. That's it. Enjoy!

My frugal tip is take the handmade pledge and either make or buy everything handmade this valentines day.
Really not that original of an idea, but I plan on just cooking a fancy dinner at home, watching a movie, maybe some candles and dancing.
I enjoy ehow, and it's been the best online writing site I've found for ease of use and decent payment amount. I would say most people average $2 per article per month. Some more, some less.
My husband and I are using special half-off coupons to go out to eat this year. We can get them from our local radio station.

bake something -- a cake, or some homemade cookies
