I find it hard to shop for clothes for myself but I pick up almost all my daughter's clothes at either thrift stores or rummage sales. At her age, they outgrow them before they're worn out. I also found a great sheet that I was able to turn into curtains for her room.
I also disagree with pre-worn shoes. Even if slightly worn. Any short-term savings could mean foot, knee, or low-back problems in the long-term from wearing shoes partially formed to another foot.
I most definitely shop at thrift stores. It's fun, challenging, gratifying and very addictive. Some days you can get lucky and will have to get a cart to hold everything and others not so much and will have to put the cart away. I've come away with some very awesome deals and items and received many compliments on some of the merchandise I've bought. I highly recommend trying it out.
A good machine is purchased from a sewing machine dealer that provides support ,repair and inspiration to sew. They also explain the features of a machine and find one best suited for your need and budget.
I have shopped at thrift stores for almost 20 years and love it! First, it was because it was the cool thing to do during the "grunge" years. Then, it was because I liked getting clothing and furniture for cheap. Now, I continue to shop at thrift stores to save money (especially on children's clothing, furniture, and toys) and because it's better for the environment. When I need something, I look for it at thrift stores before I consider buying it new. I have several friends and family members that also love to shop thrift and we make a fun day of it whenever we can. You just need to know which thrift stores have the best sales and when they receive new items.
Yes, yes I do! I get clothing and household goods along with furniture if it is good quality and priced reasonably. Really good place to find baskets and some times craft supplies and fabric.
When I see scratches on CDs I scold my children. After I cut the CD into pieces and boil them for 6 minutes in water with a dash of vinegar. Then I put them into a microwave on thaw level for 3 minutes. After that I lightly fry in olive oil for 3 minutes. Then I put all the pieces together using duct tape. When I put in the CD player and press play the CD doesn't work.
Of course I shop at thrift stores. For everything from shirts and sweaters to furniture that I can refurbish and make look new. I'm still trying to find a vintage Schwinn bicycle at a reasonable price. Wish me luck!
Great post Ashley. I definitely had a problem with shopping (and spending) in the past. I would find any reason to spend time shopping and spend money. But today I am happy to say that I am a reformed shopper and now my biggest weekly shopping expense is at the grocery store. I am going to share this post next Friday on the Dinks Finance weekly roundup. Have a great weekend.
How funny! I was just nagging my mom to do this this very morning! A few years ago I got back $1525 by contacting the State Controller's office in California. It was like finding $1525 in the sofa. It's that easy to do.
Laredo, Texas should've been #1.
I live in laredo; never in my 16 years have I seen tornados, earthquakes etc.
Only 1hurricane, but it was so small that you could take your baby for a stroll in the park lol
The Minnesota department of Revenue has sent out notices this morning (March 8) warning not to use any Intuit products (TurboTax, Lacerte, Intuit online or ProSeries) because of errors.

Nice article and I agree good nights out don't have to be expensive, it's more about who you are with. Karaoke is the best!

Sure do. We buy books and small furniture items like a desk my daughters needed fir their schoolwork. Was only $35!! Perfect for 6 & 10 yr old girls!!
I will buy furniture to update, but no clothes or anything else really!
Great list, will definitely be using some of these for my taxes!
There's no need to use mayo, just use oil. The oil in mayo does all that. But I'm with KJ, don't put oil on leaves.

I am glad I am not the only one who thought, "Hay! It is better for me than I thought!"
