I guess the next step, however hard it may be, is to allow yourself 10 opportunities to discover those 5 moments in your life. Good luck and I hope it helps a little bit at least.
I think the most depressing thing about not having a passion is this insistence from society that I MUST pursue something. I don't particularly enjoy working. My passion is playing video games. Not competitively. Not to develop them or test them. Just to play them. In other words, I am pursuing my passion and the only depressing thing about it is that society deems me a bum for doing so.
Dialing in an evening routine is what helped me get to the point where I was waking up before the alarm. I always have trouble falling asleep at night, but if I get in bed, turn out the main light with just my nightstand light on for working on ideas for projects and reading until I get tired, I fall asleep a lot faster. Also, my smartphone screen is pretty bright, so if I plug it in across the room (it's my alarm clock as well) and abandon it for the night before I settle in to read, that helps too.
How do you pay your mortgage and car loans with your credit card...isn't that considered a cash advance by the CC company and a fee is applied or interest begins accumulating immediately?
Would love to know how to start taking advantage of the $$ I spend on house/car!
I am a reviewaholic. I go to Amazon, Google it, consumer report, trip advisor, and read all of the reviews - good and bad. Sometimes people give a poor review for such petty things, I try to get a balanced review on what I am buying.
I didn't spend a lot of time researching beauty products, Guest, but the Beauty Brains blog I linked above has lots of interesting beauty and science stuff. The "Save Money on Beauty Products" category would be a good place to start.
And, of course, Wise Bread has covered beauty substitutes extensively. Try "beauty" in the search box.
Mikey,
Thanks for mentioning CardCash.com. Utilize our buy side and save an average of 15% on your daily expenses. Will help everyone save $5 or more this week.
We are in a co-op, one of the few remaining in the area. It seems more and more co-ops have been closing. I'm not sure if it's because more people are forced into going back to work, leaving parents unable to do the work necessary to participate, or if more parents believe that pre-schools can do better with a fully designed program that doesn't require parent participation. Regardless, it is great for us.
How about VOIP - Skype vs. other phone service delivered via regular phone? There's less packaging with Skype but it is basically the same product.
In my market, there is a new commercial for the cable company with a woman citing her preference for easy-to-use products that require no technical knowledge.
Your point about products being marketed for different uses hit the nail on the head. I see people spending so much unnecessary money, especially on household cleaners. Why do you need something different for the toilet, bathroom tiles, regular tile flooring, for other surfaces, for mopping... the list goes on and on. I always just get a multi-purpose cleaner. Also, when possible, I get generic medication instead of the brand names. It's amazing how easy it is to rip yourself off!
Great point about packing your lunch. I'm always flabbergasted at the amount of money I spend on fast food and snacks. It really is worth the money saved to find the time to prepare your own meals as much as possible.
One thing that I'm still working on as a person is to not rely on external factors for happiness. Essentially, I'm somewhat easy to make happy all it takes is maybe a little company and a thing or two going on. Then once nothing much is really going on, I get left alone with my thoughts and it swallows me.
The only thing that worked for my seemingly endless insatiability has been practicing the philosophy of Stoicism which teaches you to rid yourself of negative emotions (e.g. sadness, anger, etc) and wanting the things you already have. It really is quite powerful but like the Stoics wisely said, "Every good Stoic is a Stoic in progress". If anyone thinks this sounds interesting, I used William B. Irvine's "The Stoic Joy" as a good guide that is well modernized.
"While the rider can direct the elephant where to go, it is so much smaller and less powerful than the elephant that the rider will eventually get exhausted."
This idea is so interesting and powerful. When we put off important decisions until the afternoon or evening (like say, when we have a late meeting or go shopping after work), we make poor decisions because we've already exhausted all our decision-making juice for the day.
It may not be reasonable to avoid all such end-of-day decisions, but I am now more aware of my poor decision making process at the end of the day. This awareness, plus your tips for managing the elephant, will help keep my rider fresh and making good decisions. :)
Brilliant, I love it. I am working from home too so creating a powerful and healthy habit in the morning is crucial. Damn, we are doing this in order to have the lifestyle of a home base business but sometime I treat myself badly just to stay busy in front of the computer. We still got the create a better lifestyle by the power of our habits to really live a magical life

I'm not sure I'm following, Julie ... Same VOIP, different package (Skype versus whatever the broadband provider is offering)?
That's close, but it strikes me as more of a "generic versus brand name" pricing difference rather than a "use versus use" pricing difference.
So, how do I Google to find the beauty market clones?

This really is beautiful. Thank you.

Turn off the heat overnight and wear a sweatshirt and use an extra blanket! Use a fan in the summer!

It reminds me of a NYT article about decision fatigue:

Excellent observations all! I especially like your number ten. Your number six should be a mandated weekly event in Congress.

Yes, I always read product reviews before purchasing. So thankful that others do provide their input!
Hi, LJ! I have never attempted valences. If you say they are truly easy, well, maybe that will be a future project. Tx for suggesting them.
Jon, you definitely can do it. If you get stuck, contact me and I will help. Thanks for commenting and good luck!
I try to always read reviews on most of the things I buy.
Hi, SuzeMagoo (like your name) and thank you! Hope it does indeed help. :-)
