Sorry Beverly I do not agree with you. Smaller stores have been getting hit hard by these fee's. There are customers who get turned down because they try to purchase an item for 50 cents on a credit card. It's horrible!! Come on people, cash still exist.
I respect the point you're making. But I think we're already paying higher prices due to the interchange fees. Retailers benefit a great deal when they allow consumers to pay with a credit card. It's convenient for customers and it increases sales.
I see the interchange fee as the cost of doing business. And the smart retailers adjusted their sales prices to reflect this a long time ago.
Amen. Nobody cares about the money the business loses out on to pay the fees. The consumer is choosing to pay with the card, why shouldn't they pay for the fees associated with it?
I've used dishwasher liquid numerous times to get rid of stains. Always works like a charm and saved me a ton of money (on drycleaning) and a lot of clothes!
I am sorry, I know your intentions are good but this is the worst advice ever! If you think that combining your $10,000 ring with your $5,000 of personal property will work on a $15,000 renters policy, you are dead wrong! This person would never get paid if they had a claim.
I know policies vary by state, but I know they don't vary that much. You really need to double-check this information, people are relying on your accuracy.
Yes, I totally read reviews. Usually on whatever website I'm planning on buying from, as well as Amazon. And sometimes I do a general google search too see if any bloggers or other writers have done any reviews.
I would not patronize a store who has a credit card surcharge. The sooner we nip that entire concept in the bud the better.
Since the settlement did NOT apply to Discover, I will use a Discover card and if they attempt to surcharge it, I will point out the settlement does NOT apply to Discover cards.
Thanks! And I agree with you that kids need to take a class in personal finance. I'd love it if schools started requiring this. Credit card debt can ruin your life for many years.
Hi Viv -- I love your attitude. And I totally agree it's so important to teach them about money when they're young. It helps them develop good habits that, hopefully, keep them out of debt.
The businesses gets charged a fee for you to use your card... so the business owner makes less money on each credit card transaction than we do on a cash or check transaction.. The merchant service charge should be automatically charged to your card ... you are the one CHOOSING to use the card instead of paying with cash or check.
I think most merchants do build the interchange fee into their prices. That's a big reason I'm not willing to pay more. And I totally agree with you that it would look horrible to tack this on at the register. I heard today that Kroger is considering it. Bad move, if that's true. I have to wonder if they leaked that info to gauge the public reaction.
I pay my bills on time now and have been for years, but my credit score is toast because of a collection write off I had about 5 years ago and a maxed out home equity line of credit. It's kind of scary to put all my extra money into paying down my line instead of putting aside anything into savings. I really can only do one or the other. My car note interest rate is astronomical with no way to refinance because of the FICO and my house mortgage is underwater so I can't take advantage of low rates these days. I guess I'll just put half on debt and half in savings and do another credit report in 6 months.
Hi Mark -- I like that story. They did a good job making the facts very clear. There are tons of stories out in the media right now about the checkout fees. I've read some stories that are mixing up the facts at this point.
I do. i have been burned in the past, especially with big ticket items and online purchases. For really big purchases i will go to the library and look it up in conusmer report.
It depends on the item. The less I know about the product the more I'll read that way I make sure I'm buying a quality product rather than buying some clever marketing scheme
I'll always look for reviews on products that I'm interested in but with which I've had little or no experience. For instance, I've been reading reviews of bicycles--I haven't ridden one since I was a kid, and I want to better understand the kinds of things I should look for when I shop for one.
For big ticket items (large appliances) or electronics, I always read reviews. I work hard for my money and the items I purchase need to last.

Yes, but only with big purchases.
Yep, pretty much everything, especially if it can be found on Amazon. Also check when buying cars, appliances etc.
Vegetarian Lettuce Wraps are super delicious! Lots of recipes can be googled.. Water chestnuts chopped finely or minced with soy sauce, garlic, onion and maybe whatever fresh stuff you have available. http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/2012/02/vegetarian-lettuce-wraps/
Great appetizer for a tofu pad thai dinner.

I always read product reviews! I'm a huge review advocate lol. I dont buy items I've never tried before if the reviews are bad.

Very interesting idea and I wish I had the cash to do it! However i note that more and more people seem to be doing it this way and why not?

This needs to be updated as credit cards may be imposing "user" fees in 2013.

Glad these ways have worked for you!

Well, that certainly would make a statement! :)
