My Dads house was built in the 1800's, so it has a lot of places that were leaking air. He's a real handy man, but needed some help actually finding the places that were letting air out. Once he had an energy audit done, he knew exactly where to put a little bit of blockage up and really saw a difference in how much heat they had to use during the winter.
I feel your pain, quite literally! I just came down with another cold sore (the fourth since my daughter was born) and I didn't catch it in time to get medication on it. Now I just want to hide out. :)
Thanks for the great roundup of advice on freelancing. This information is useful to me for the small jobs I work on the side. I've found the biggest key is organization which is brought out by several points in this write up. I've got this saved in my Evernote and will be referencing it again for sure. Thanks!
Wow!
This is exactly what I say to my kids. I use to be quite tight on cash. If ever I could have got it earlier on in life as to what was meant by save for a rainy day without taking life for granted.
I also say to them, all I learnt from my parents was to spend. This was the worse thing. This is really what leads you to get into credit card debt.
You have to get kids started early in understanding how important it is to budget for things and not look towards credit.
I have been suffering from cold sores for years I dont even remember the first time. I recently went 2 years with non and now i have had 4 within the past MONTH. I currently have 2 that are healing and i feel the tingling right now. Sometimes if i catch the tingling and put ice on it they wont come out. I recently had a lot of stress, depression and anxiety so i am sure that has a lot to do with the sores. But they are SO ugly. I dont even want to leave my desk at work when i get them!
Maybe, just once or twice, it may have been mentioned. With a post like that, you have to consider if this was an ATF employee posting. Keep the threat up so everyone will run for the hills. I think it would be best if everyone reading, did not take our word for it. Just start a research for the amount of methanol created from different fermentations. Then find out how much methanol it takes to hurt you. Also look up the amount of methanol you get from simple beer and wine. Never take anyone's word for it when you can find out for yourself.
Now that you know that, and you have read about the physical separation of both alcohols, Deduce how much you will get in your output. Now it's time to decide if you would like to try it.
As for me, I did, I do and now,,,,, I will. Cheers.
When we want to go to the movies, we usually wait until a movie has hit our cheap ($2) theater to see it. Otherwise, we wait until it comes out on DVD and put it on hold at the library. We go to sporting events when we get free tickets to do so. We got rid of our cable and use Netflix and Hulu Plus instead.
Thank you for all of these awesome ideas! I grilled something for the first time at our new house yesterday (we previously lived in an apartment complex) and it was a fun experience.
My boyfriend ate five as they cooled, so I'd say they're a hit. The texture is strange- almost rubbery- but they taste great. So much easier than making oatmeal every morning for breakfast!
Getting a timer on your electric furnace. We set the timer to come on at 4:00am and off at 6:30am and then again turn on at 2:50pm and off at 9:00pm.
Also a timer on your hot water tank. Only warming the water when you are using it. From 9:00pm to 4:00am not on.
Use the blinds in front of all windows. You can close them off at night and when you are not at home. Helps to keep the cold out. Also insulated drapes are a biggy!
We love live theater and are lucky to live within range of a number of places to indulge our passion. We buy season tickets to a couple small community theaters -getting to see five productions for the price of one of the big shows downtown. Another theater offers half price tickets after noon for that evening's performance. The plays at a local college are also reasonably priced.
Witch hazel will also get rid of acne cysts. Especially if they are painful and infected. drench a cotton ball in witch hazel, place it over the cyst and secure it with a band or two just before u go to bed for the night. Remove it in the morning and u will notice a slight decrease in the size of the cyst. With my expierience, I would need to do this 3 nights in a row. Each morning finding the cyst being smaller and much less painful. But dont push on the cyst and dont think u will need to put any pressure on it at all, u dont. Just let the cotton ball sit there and sleep however ur comfortable. Pushing on the cyst will only make it more painful and can cause it to rupture.
Thanks for these tips. It seems our front door has several leaks, at the top and sides, and so I'm torn whether I should get strips to attach or have a whole new door made. Things to ponder! Thanks!
We have AAA, and take advantage of their discounts (and services) when we have needed them. We also just switched to Amazon Prime tv streaming and dropped Netflix tv streaming to save money.
This is a really interesting article, the topic of which I never considered before. Incorporating plants like these will be great for both our home and office. Thanks for the insight.
Phil, you are so right. I suspect you'll get skewered by both sides of the camp, however. At least for me, saving small sums gives me the correct mindset for exploring more self-reliance. That, in turn, gets me thinking about the bigger stuff and whether I really even need it. It becomes psychologically freeing and that's the real payout for me. cheers.
Good points. I am single, live alone, and have stopped using the credit cards except for emergency. I have formed my own cash-only strategy:
Every time I deposit my paycheck I withdraw no more than $200 to be used for the next 2 weeks. It is a tough challenge, with rising gas and food prices, but I can just about do it (I am fortunate to work locally and not pay tolls/fares).
I limit my check-writing to 3 per month, if I can: Rent (utilities included), Auto Insurance, and one extra if needed.
I bought my first mint plant 20 years ago. I nurtured that little plant because I mistakenly thought it was frail The next year I was hacking away at it so that the hydro meter could be read.
When my baby (now 17) got chicken pox she was too little to use any anti histamine medications and I found calamine lotion to be useless. I had bushels of mint hanging in my mudroom. I took a bunch, put them in an old nylon stocking and let them soak in the sink. Remove stocking with mint, insert baby. The mint really helped with her itchy "chicken pockets".
Your landline should work when the power is out - you just need to get a plain, old school phone (not a cordless) to plug into the jack. You can get one at Target or Walmart for about $10.

We do a lot more of at-home entertainment. I can't tell you the last time we attended the theater or went to a movie

What company do you use?

Hurricane Sandy. No cell reception for days. My neighbors without landlines were coming to my house to make calls. It's worth it.

I've been using peppermint essential oil to open up my sinuses. Just dab a little on your upper lip and inhale. Presto! Now that's breathing easy.
Whatever you do, don't dab more than a drop or two. That stuff is strong. Swab it on and you'll wind up with a burning lip and watery eyes.
