Great article. I find it's critical to define when the sub-goals are met before undertaking them; you usually don't need to do every step perfectly to meet your larger objectives. If you don't know when you're done, then you might obsess over a particular step and forget the forest for the trees.

I have a similar experience with my laptop, the fan stopped working. When Office depot would honor my extended warranty, I had misplaced the receipt, and used a fake phone number. I hate it when they call me. I contacted American Express and within a week received a full refund for my laptop. No questions asked!
I know this may sound stupid to most people, but the thing I want most for Christmas this year, is for my family to come with me to church the Sunday before Christmas. Everyone is a member, so I'm not asking them to go against their beliefs by joining me. It's been a couple of years now of going on my own, and although there are lots of great people around me, I still get lonely. I don't think it'll happen, but I still hope.

Wow, what a powerful and intelligent article. It never ceases to amaze me that as consumers we are willing to take on more and more debt and why? Because we're told that we must certain goods/services now! Why wait? Why Save? Isn't that boring? Why not have it now and you can pay us back later? - Of course later means added interest charges. So I totally agree and value your argument. I'm not against capitalism per say, I personally think it's a good system, but only in so much as it serves rather than enslaves society.......
The Active Living tip is pure gold. I recently started working more hours and spending an extra 20 minutes working out each week. With just these two small changes I noticed that I was spending a lot less. It can be easy to break your budget if your are bored and inactive. When you stay busy, you don't even have the time or the urge to bust your budget.
I would love to see deals that apply to things in my neighborhood. This helps to increase shopping locally and small businesses. Thats one thing I think is really fun about sites like Groupon. Those deals give small (smaller) businesses a chance to build a consumer base with a lot less initial risk to the shopper
I thought it was interesting when you mentioned number 5- multitasking, and then as I thought about it your completely right. Its a much better idea to have all of your focus on one thing at a time to complete it with quality and efficiency rather than trying to do more than one thing and it turning out less than perfect. I really liked this article.

Cleaning out my email inboxes and updating my resume are at the top of the list and very good things to focus on for the new year. And of course, a good thorough cleaning of my apartment is in order.

I have buyers say to me "we can look beyond clutter"... but it's really rare to actually have buyers that are willing to put their money on a cluttered, unkept, dimly lit, weed-strewn yard, everything-is-kinda-broken house.
The point of selling your home is to MOVE. Not to showcase your belongings or to highlight your 3 couches, 2 filled china hutches and basement FILLED with plastic kiddie toys. Not that the next buyer won't live like that - but they won't willingly hand over full price.
If you are serious about selling your home I have 1 big word for you P.A.C.K. Pack it all up. Leave just the beautiful bare minimum. Don't say "I've been so busy with the kids and with work and with xyz...". If those things are taking priority, then they are costing you big dollars with your home sale. There is no 2 ways about it.

Uummm.... plastic bubble wrap as a free gift for kids? Being frugal doesn't mean relinquishing common sense safety. Maybe finding a bubble wrap popping sound on the Internet (Google "bubble wrap games online") isn't as fun as the actual thing, but it's a whole lot safer.
These are all great recommendations. For some reason many people tend to look at insurance as something that's static. "I've taken care of my life insurance needs." But the needs change often, as you've outlined in your article. Life insurance should be reviewed annually to make sure it matches up with our ever changing lives.
On the subject of employer sponsored life insurance, I'm noticing the coverage provided by employers is getting less flexible as companies continue to work to reduce their costs. Jeff is absolutely correct that these policies are often not portable and that is often not obvious. I have always recommended maxing out employer sponsored coverage, but have recently adjusted that theory because more and more it is not the most affordable option.
Our experience was also that guests are an expense. Putting them to work would work with maybe 1/25 visitors, truly not a viable option for us. As parents we all do what we need to do. Supporting fellow mothers and reserving judgement is valuable - and free!
Mike; all they have listed is the same products in different forms. Look into gold and silver, real estate and NFCD's. They are REAL wealth NOT paper!!

I don't use a coffee pot either. Coffee, filter and small pitcher. For coffee on the go, I use via packets, under a dollar for a decent cup at work.
