We like to host game night. Each couple that attends brings an app to share, so it doesn't cost anyone much money and we spend the night playing Charades, Apples to Apples, and Pictionary! so much fun and very frugal!
I have yet to shop on Black Friday. I think I would do it for a precious pooch like the one in the photo. I will be making holiday cards on Friday.:) Have a great holiday.
Oh my word, these all sound delicious. Not that such a thing as "leftover mashed potatoes" is likely to exist in my home - I can't remember the last time we didn't finish the pot - one reason we try not to have them too often.
Oh Potatoes - is there nothing you can't do or be? (I loved the idea of re-mashing with Beets - I'd go one further and re-mash beets in one third, squash in a second, and really well steamed broccoli or zuchinni in the last, and scoop them out like a sorbet dessert. Children - devour your vegetable ice cream!)
Good to see ordinary people getting in on the incentive programs states and communities use to lure businesses.
Those deals are almost always a loss for the states, and I expect these are as well, but that's no reason not to try them and see if they work for you.
We love to get together with friends. Regardless if we plan to host, they always bring food which helps with the budget. We don't always do anything special - most of the time, we just spend time talking.
I'm big on "Freebies". Could you have a 1 day a week designated as "Freebie Day" where all of the items in the Newsletter were Freebies? Freebies of assorted flavors, shapes, & sizes. :)

We have two Jack Russell Terriers. They make every day fun because they're tireless playing machines! The hubby and I also enjoy board games like Scrabble, Boggle, etc. It's good for the brain!
Great article. We use a combination of Mint.com and Quicken. Quicken gives us control over the actual data for long term records. We log into Mint each morning to keep abreast of any changes and to be alert for fraud. When a bill does come in, we scan it and set up the bill pay right then. The hard copy is shredded and trashed. This has kept all of our records digitally stored and easily accessible.
These are very good tips. I have used toothpaste before and it did work on some game disc of mine. I have yet to try brasso, but I am going to pick some up since that seems like the wisest choice for removing scratches. My kids scratch their DVD's up sometimes, so I found a different approach to repairing the disc-- that is, to simply copy the DVD disc so you have backups in case one where to get badly scratched. That way you wouldn't have to worry about fixing the scratches. You can do this without much difficulty. Obviously this doesn't work for game disc, but works excellent for making backup copies for DVDs.
The banana method surprised me. My first thought was bull----. I had no idea about it. Next time I get a scratched disc I'm going to try it. Toothpaste has saved my disc quite a few times, but sometimes it can be a temporary solution and based in my own experience you will have to apply some more to the disc that is badly scratched in a few to several months later. I've had a disc before that was badly scratched, and did the toothpaste method. Two years later and they still work, but these disc I'm referring to are game disc and they haven't been heavily played. I've had a disc that was extremely horribly scratched, and I had to apply the toothpaste again in a couple of months to get them to work again.
Using the brasso method, I'm curious as how long the disc will last? I'm guessing a lot longer then a heavy played toothpaste-fixed disc? I think I'm going to go buy some brasso now as the method has really picked my curiosity.
I brought some of my closes to The New Orleans Mission including some I thought I would loose weight and fit in again. I feel good about it and have more space in my closet.
I use the library for most of my reading. We use the Redbox and Netflix instead of going out to movies. And when we do go out, we bring our own snacks. We rarely eat out and try new recipes that we find on Pinterest all the time.

Refreshing to see the other side of the coin. Great job on the article format as well...like the image and nice that at a glance anyone can scan it and walk away with food for thought.
We basically just..make fun of each other! I was raised by a family who always finds something funny about anything. We crack jokes during dinner and spend almost 2 1/2 hours just sitting there and talking. It's much fun with the whole family.
Well, though I'm a grown man with a family, I'm still a videogamer. My wife and daughter are, too. It's what we do when we don't have friends over, instead of TV - we don't have a TV feed into the house, just use Hulu and Netflix...
How to be frugal as a gamer? Two words: Steam Sale.
One of my favorite games of all time, Borderlands, was originally a $50 game with four expansions at $10 each. But by waiting a while after its initial release, I grabbed it during a Steam sale for __$7.49__ - ALL expansions included!
Actually - how *else* to be frugal as a gamer? Free-to-Play. Plenty of great stuff out there is free. Team Fortress 2; a couple MMOs (not my thing, but fairly popular); I think my daughter's favorite, Minecraft, is also free.
I've done two pieces recently that are sort of tangential to this. Namely: You should read leaked Black Friday ads. It gives you the time to talk your brain down from its fever of potential savings.
I've whittled my 20ish items list down to 4. Because I had time to research the prices, research the items (often in store) and generally realize that I don't *need* most of the items. And they probably wouldn't get used.
I like the point about the low-price distractions sprinkled throughout stores. It's a great ploy for the average shopper. And I'm usually only slightly above that shopper when it comes to impulse control for sale items.
But I have my list, so I'll just treat it as the final say. (Not on the list? Not in our cart!) Then we'll leave... after waiting in ridiculously long lines to check out. I think we'll be bringing our Nintendo DS consoles to save our sanity.
I joined a local volunteer organization called the Blue Ridge Eagles. We do all kinds of fundraisers so I get to go to events, volunteer and enjoy the events.
Added to that, I hike and bike, go to free festivals and free outdoor concerts. Also, locally we have free polo matches and we will bring a picnic. Almost any type of fun can be had outdoors!

Yes, we have frugal fun with potlucks, game nights movie nights and we even use coupons for our favorite restaurants or to try new restaurants
