I totally agree. So many of my friends to claim to live frugally, however, really tightening the belt most of them have no clue. I am so extremely frugal and I work out everyday plus I do all the things that they do and they all look at me wishing they have what I have. They are not willing to do the work. It is a massive amount of time and effort loss sleep, and working when I did not feel well,. Etc.......
Things are not always as they seem, If we eat rice and beans but hold on to our home, then they go out to eat and after years of paying off our mortgage, everyone looks at us once we pay off the home / saying how lucky we are.
It's not luck , it was a ton of hard choices.
In 2006 at Christmas we were broke. I could not feed my family, I could not buy gifts, A friend gave me some pasta. I served it with watered down sauce and sat on a park bench and cried. It was the only meal we had all day.
My life changed after that I woke everyday trying to figure out how I could earn a bit of money everyday. It slowly started to make a difference it took us four years we paid off all of our debt and we have not gone back.
We all wake each day, we will work for just coins if we have to but we work a portion of everyday and we have money left over at the end of the year.
My friends have all chosen to be the bird with a head in the sand. It does not fix the problem.
My sister and I share February as our birthday month. A few years ago, we decided to go to a concert together during the month of February to celebrate our birthdays instead of exchanging gifts. It has been our tradition ever since. We are big fans of Stubhub.com for finding deals on tickets. We are also members of certain artists' fan clubs to get extra perks like backstage and meet-and-greets passes. The memories of our shared experience lasts a lot longer than a material gift.
I go to concerts pretty frequently. Maybe one or two a month? I don't really save on tickets except by trying to see a mix of well-known and less well-known artists. Not sure how else to save money. Best concert would probably be Robyn - she was amazing!
We go to a couple of major (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bruce Springsteen, The Who) concerts a year. What really burns me is the extra fees tacked onto the ticket prices, such as a convenience fees, order processing fees and venue fees.
I have to respectfully disagree with you on every single one of your reasons for liking a big bank! Convenience: my credit union allows me to go to ANY ATM worldwide, and they will refund me any fee I uncur. Local: sure, bank employees are local, but my credit union employees probably FEEL more like local employees because they are not overseen by national HR policies and culture. Customer Service: what you described at your big bank is a MINIMUM acceptable level of basic customer service - it is ok to expect more, as I do from my credit union. Stability: have you been around for the last few years? A lot of people probably expected Washington Mutual to be around 70 more years, but that's clearly not the case! Ability to Negotiate: I have never had a big bank willing to negotiate with me because they know they have a million other customers and I am just not that important. On the other hand, my credit union treats me like a valued employee because I am not only a customer, I am a shareholder. And I am more valuable because there just aren't as many of me. I have had a significantly easier time negotiating fees (not that I have to, because my credit union charges no fees for being their customer).
Yes I do! Several times a year.. save by winning tickets 105.7 KOZZ my fav, haven't won there yet, tho. Also save by taking advantage of local marketing offers... Next concert not planned yet.. Pat Benetar, Journey, ? TAHOE perhaps.
I've only been to about 3 concerts in my life. I paid for the first 2 and got lucky on the 3rd when a pregnant friend couldn't go and gave me the ticket! I am planning to go to one this year, and I am hoping Big Bang won't be sold out!
Yes I do however I normally don't pay to go to concerts. Instead I resort to winning concert tickets through my favorite radio stations. I won two already within the past 3 months!
Before we moved to another community, I bought season tickets to the symphony which gave us the best value on ticket prices and seating. Now we rarely go to concerts unless we can afford the best seats. There is no value to me in going to a concert and only being able to see the performers on a huge video screen. I might as well stay home and rent a concert dvd.
I don't tend to go to concerts unless it is free.
I really don't have a desire to go to live concerts.
Liked you on fb.
I used to go, but now it's too expensive. I still go to free ones in the summer.

Liked and commented on Facebook too! :D
Hurray! Thank you for the ungilded truth.
Occasionally - last concert I went to was Tommy Emmanuel, and I won those tickets from my favorite local used CD/DVD place (CD Tradepost).
I have "liked" your Facebook page.
I usually don't go to concerts its way too much noise and crowding for me :)
Love it! Thanks for the simple perspective.
I do not go to concerts.
