My husband recently found a full-time position after six months of unemployment. Even though he's settling into his new job, he's still actively looking for one that's better aligned with his skills and interests - and that offers a more competitive salary.
But I figure it's always easier to find a new job when you have a job!
I normally review my budget when I download my last month's statements into my budget software, and check the numbers and assign categories to payments. Sometimes though I miss a month so it spills over to the next month. However, I feel like this review is more just admin and doesn't lead me to question my spending habits or think about change. I probably do this a couple of times a year, where the result is either: hmm things are OK; or oh dear, I should spend less. I'd be interested in any tips for making the most of budget reviews.
Budgeting is definitely not on my top of things to do list but I seriously need to start. Planning is the difficult part for me but I'll try to make it fun and see how it works out.
TOTALLY UNTRUE, Dogs NEED some vegetables, necks, as these carry essential vitamins and are also tumor/cancer defensive, for example green leaft veg helps prevent cancer and tumors, pear is good for the heart, also the fact of dogs needing offal, necks, heart and organs is NOT TRUE, These are generally too rich for dogs and should only be available as a SMALL treat maybe once or twice a month. Dogs should generally be fed on LEAN HIGH PROTEIN MEAT- Chicken and turkey breast is the best followed by darker cuts of these meats as second best. The requirements are 25% grain, 25% PUREED veg (dogs cannot digest chunks of raw or cooked veg too well) and 50% lean protein in each day, divide it by however many meals you feed him, Also many dogs have pork allergies so its best to avoid. It is also best to add a little oild like olive oil to their meal and/or if you have it omega 3 dog oil. A calcium supplement is also best. I cannot comment on the raw diet as I admit I haven't tried that nor would I ever, I believe it to be an ancient medieval "belief" that dogs need only meat and it raw as our good advanced science tells us the benefits of a well BALANCED but varied diet. I have just finished and passed year one animal nutrition course, therefore the information I give is from all I have learned.
im with you, on top of getting an addiction on couponing this people are shopaholics they tend to think is ok , because they are not going in to debt. one women even put boxes and boxes of cereal under her bed, on her closet. Im not against using coupons you have to do what you have to do to maximaze the money you work so hard for, i use coupon but i dont keep a stock at all, i buy what i know ill need for a month. 2 bottles of each product i use. i buy nothing i wont need. Most people think they save a lot of money but believe me they dont. People who are couponing heavely are not going to the store with no money they spend money on things they already have at home. One lady said that when she runs out of space she gives the stuff away to go back to the store to buy the stuffs she just gave away ummmm that doesnt make sense to me. You use coupons to save, but if she gives them away because she doesnt have space so she can buy them again how is that saving money. You have to use coupon but extreme couponing will make you spend money you really dont have to spend. i dont care if they said it cost them pennies. they are still spending on top add all the gas they spend on trips. do they get it for free
Well, I had a second wedding 18 months ago. It was my second, his third. We tried to keep it low key, but wanted to celebrate with friends and family. We tried to save money by keeping the number low, but ended up having more guests (82) than we wanted because so many people wanted to share in our joy that some actually invited themselves to the wedding, or said they looked forward to getting their invitation when they actually weren't on the guest list to begin with. Most of these people were colleagues of my husband's and he had worked with them at different companies for years, and they had become life long friends. My husband is a wonderful man who didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings, so we did invite some extra people, but to others we had to tell them we were trying for a small celebration. We did do a ceremony with me in a cream colored long dress and he in a suit he already owned. We had the reception in a restaurant with fabulous food, and the cake and a toast were included. We didn't have bridesmaids or groomsman but each of us had our grown ( or almost grown) children participate by giving readings or walking parents down the aisle. We didn't do some of the traditional things, like throwing a garter or bouquet, or the parent dances. Or feeding each other cake. It was a lower key, lower cost version of a first wedding. The bottom line was after both of us having marriages that made us miserable, and in my case all but abandoned physically and emotionally, we were just so happy we wanted to share our happiness with all those we love. Most people did give gifts...some ranged from more extravagant than necessary ( long term friends) to just small tokens, and it was all fine. We both agree it was the best day of our lives. With the possible exception of the days my 3 children were born, exception because although I was happy, there was some pain involved. On the day we got married, no pain, only sheer joy! In this marriage,I'm still so happy I started a blog about it!
Stay at home mom getting back to work. Went on 2 great interviews and had the experience they wanted...but got jammed up by the money question...how much are you looking to make for this position ? I mean how much are you offering for this position? Than I commented on my past wage ranges doing same or similar position. I know what i said wasn't right...because of the look I got..hell I think the wage range was more than the person interviewing me made. so now i dont really know how to answer that damn question ! any advice ?
Nerida, I asked a relative who is in the Insurance area if Whole Life/Permanent was available in NZ and he said most companies had dropped it but AIG still sell it. I'm sure they will be in Australia.
Really??? What an idiotic suggestion... If everyone were starting their own businesses where would hospitals, schools, and -yes- big companies go? Would you start a hospital and a school for just your family??? Everyone would love to have a financially comfortable life but some occupations and professions are more about love for doing the job than financial gain because they are underpaid and that's not going to change. One example is being a teacher or a nurse. Obviously they can improve their incomes by continuous studying and becoming leaders in their field but can you imagine a world of every single one of them founding schools and hospitals??? How would they even be able to open them if everyone just wants to be rich and not someone else's employee??? How would you open a school or a hospital if no one wants to be an employee??? Or better yet, are you going to invent a way in which these workplaces would function with just you as a doctor, nurse, surgeon, manager, etc; or principal, teacher, bus driver, cook, school nurse, etc all at the same time??? Having your own business is good if you really believe in your product or service and have the skills to manage it on your own but we are not islands and we need each other and fortunately we all have different skills to make our society function. Whether that system is fair is an entirely different issue but the point is that nobody can function alone. And your suggestion is about that: function alone and get rich (which is ironic because you need others to get rich: you need other people to want or need whatever it is that you offer). And yes, there are interviews: with your clients (or do you know everyone on the planet who will buy your product or service?)
I always flash my headlight at night and it works! You have to start flashing as soon as possible because it takes at LEAST 5 secs for a large intersection light to change. But smaller ones (for pedestrians) change in 1-2 seconds. This is because they by default give red light both ways at night, and thus can change faster. I have done this for the last 10 years, and I know that cabdrivers do it all the time.
This works in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany and Hungary. And possibly other European countries.
I fair warning though: Cops will pull you over is they see you doing this. And thus you should NEVER do it if there is any other traffic around.
Does anyone on the hiring end know exactly why we need someone's "objective" on their resume? I recently told someone that I often skip right over this when hiring because it most likely is a version of the truth that the interviewee assumes I want to hear. A friend once asked me if I had an objective on my resume. I told him no because I didn't know how to politely put, "If you are interviewing me, my objective is to have your job."
These tips are awesome! One of the things holding applicants back is they overlook some of the things they do when writing their resume. Keep in mind what a hiring manager would be looking for (independence, fraud detection, multitasking) and be sure to add those things in there.
SO I must say I have never had a job and I am soooo nervous to get one! I don't really know what I want to do yet I mean Im still in high school but a job is a must seeing how my mother lacks the motivation to get one I cant let my family and house crumble reading all these comments and such helped sooo much thanks ya'll <3
My step daughter is new to the job market, and when I read these to her she found it incredibly helpful. Thank you so much for taking the time to share this information!
This is an excellent and comprehensive post!

Every 4-8 weeks.

Each time our salaries change or if a budgeted amount for a bill falls really short.

Have you tried the new "crackle" polishes?

I liked your Facebook page
I try and do a mini-review of our budget every couple of months with a bigger review at the beginning of a new year.
I only just started budgeting to get my spending under control (on Mint.com) and find I check it everyday.
I also "liked" your Facebook page.

Mikey B...you have hit the nail on the head. I am just learning about creating your own bank. If only I had learnt about it 40 years ago!

I evaluate my budget and tweak as necessary every month.
At least once a week, but sometimes more often. Particularly when emergency situations come up (usually car-related)>

Review to make changes probably around 6 months unless something is changing and it is needed before then.
update and manage, weekly at least.

Kind of crazy / unnerving that someone is making money off of collecting everyone's social media history!
