  • A Beginner's Guide to Homemade Bread   14 years 25 weeks ago

Oh man, I LOVE baking bread.

While it has a somewhat denser texture than what people might usually associate with bread, one of my favorite regular recipes is this 100% whole wheat bread from King Arthur Flour: http://www.kingarthurflour.com/recipes/classic-100-whole-wheat-bread-recipe

It's very simple and easy to work with, despite being 100% whole wheat.

Thanks so much for the tips, they are VERY helpful!

  • How to Organize Your Pantry and Save Cash   14 years 25 weeks ago

Great tips! I try to clean out my cabinets at least once a month because so often items got lost in the sea of food and I'd re-buy things I already had! Love the idea of the dry erase board inside the pantry, great way to write reminders.

I like tea. Especially leaf tea. Found a place that has several kinds for sale. It was pretty pricy. $3.45 an ounce, but you would be surprised how much tea is in an ounce. Have been having a cup about once a week.

Don't throw away bananas that are almost black. Just peel them, slice them, and sauté them in butter. They're sweet and can be eaten with pork or chicken or even as dessert
    with nuts and raisins.

My hobbies are really cheap - wish I could say the same for my partner's! I love to read, run, bake, play guitar and play around with my camera. (Guitar and photography granted take an initial investment but once that's done, it's done.)

  • Encounter With a Freegan   14 years 25 weeks ago

I did this for the first time, and definitely would and did give it to my kids. The oranges and strawberries were perfect, and everything still in its container. The organic yogurt was dented, and the avocado bag had something on a part of it, but thee were nto even at their peak yet. This food is incredible, and most was either slightly damaged, or just on the 'sell-by' date. I even took pictues of the spread because it was so overwhelming. Now I am going to get fat from all of the free pie!

  • Put Off Saving for Retirement   14 years 25 weeks ago

I agree with it, indeed I take exactly the same issue with the save for retirement as soon as you get a job mantra. It goes along with my experience of early working life, and I managed to catch up.

  • Toxic Laundry: What’s in Your Dryer Sheets and Fabric Softener?   14 years 25 weeks ago

I still love my chemical-laden products, but I did go through a time when I was too cheap to use them. I used a clean dish rag with one or two drops of essential oils on it to freshen up clothes in the dryer. This was part of my routine when I was going through my soap nuts phase. Seemed to be effective at creating pleasant odors but did nothing for static or softness.

  • Save Money on Shaving With These Razor Tricks   14 years 25 weeks ago

i use only few technique to test a 10 cent gillete guard single blade cartidge razor it last me max 12-15 shaves after using few tips
first as i got so many bump on neck area after shave so i tried shaving after bath or washing face with warm water it works super excellent rather than using preshave oils and many cosmetics while shaving
second make a rich leather shaving cream and leave a lather over a area for a few minutes i am using dettol brand slight cheap and good enough
third after shave i tried face moisturizer gel instead using my regular perfumed after shaves
storing whole shaving kit in dry area rather than bathroom
as gillete ads 7 shave from this razor cartidge i got double of it
i bought just new mach3 also and try it and gave the output per cartidge if works after some months lol
as i also experiment i tried de blade also and if u r pro than it may gave u as good shave like mach3 one that de blade also last long but i find safety razor above gillete guard more safe than de one

  • 5 Awesome Easy to Freeze Meals   14 years 25 weeks ago

I use the free self adhesive gift tags that I receive from various charities to label my leftovers and date them. It makes rotating and inventory of your stock so much easier.

We make a pan of lasagnae for dinner, then cut and freeze the leftovers in individual servings for lunches. If we didn't do this, the two of us would get sick of eating the same thing for several days in a row.

We also make batches of breakfast burritos and freeze them for quick and easy breakfasts or lunches. It saves us a ton of money not having to buy overpriced or unhealthy food because we were too tired or lazy to cook.
