So... I should be safe if I use the fragrance-free fabric softeners, right?

  • Toxic Laundry: What’s in Your Dryer Sheets and Fabric Softener?   14 years 26 weeks ago

True; these chemicals do occur naturally in plants, but that doesn't make them harmless. They're often created synthetically, undergo laboratory manipulation to enhance their beneficial properties, are mixed with other elements, and are combined with other chemicals with unknown and unstudied effects.

"vegetable products" have chemicals in them. All of the chemicals listed above occur naturally in plants.

If you live nearby the library, head up there. My library is very similar to my local Barnes and Noble. It's large, has a massive selection of books and I can just lounge around in a comfy chair. Better yet, I can even take the book home if I like it for free! I know most people may not live close, but when I find myself bored, I will simply just ride my bike up to the library and spend a few hours there for the afternoon.

  • How to Get a Refund When Something Is Non-Refundable   14 years 26 weeks ago

Nowadays, none of your solutions would work. Maybe the one with the hotel in war zone, but the war must start after you booked the room.
Ask you travel agent to help you with the refund? bad idea, they will never do it. They want their commission.
Sorry buddy, none of your little rules would work.

  • CitiMortgage Told Me to Default on My Loan   14 years 26 weeks ago

If you think 10 mins is bad try being on hold for 2 hours with no response. Then hanging and trying to call back later that night and still continue to be on hold for another 20 minutes. A representative called the following day asking if i was interested in speaking to a counselor? I told them only if i don;t have to wait for 2 hours, she responded she didn't know how long the wait would be. My husband and I live in Florida one of the worst hit by the economy. I have been unemployed for 5r years but my husband makes sure the mortgage is paid. I called one of the local realotors in my area and she suggested the same thing. Don't pay them and then they will work with you. Your credit will suffer but the bank will want there money and therefore work with you. I know where your coming from because my husband and I have worked very hard to keep our credit in check. You think a bank would understand that. They do, you see if your paying a higher rate that what it is today ,they get more money and if you can afford it why would the bank help us out. After all they may have a happy custome but the ban is losing money. M.Yansick Palm Coast,Fl

  • Ask the Readers: Do You Have a Prenup?   14 years 26 weeks ago

My husband and I were married almost 30 years ago when we were 20 and 21. We had very little money, and probably didn't know what a prenup was at the time. Thinking back, we didn't even have anyone say, "You're way too young. What are you two thinking?" I guess it worked.

  • Armor Etch can be a cheap fix for your scratched eyeglasses   14 years 26 weeks ago

Worked for me! Scratched anti-glare coating on polycarbonate lenses. I took my lenses out of the frame, so there would be no problems with getting the compound all over the place and put a nice, thick coating on with a Q-tip, as suggested in another comment. Left it on for 5 minutes and then washed it off, to perfect results. Will NEVER buy another pair of glasses with the anti-glare coating on them - I'm very careful with my glasses and they still got scratched all to hell!

OR, you can try the book "Artisan Bread in 5 minutes a Day" that really works to make great bread without kneading and too much fuss. We use it weekly to make pizza crust and it is fantastic. Literally takes 5 minutes to make, 2 hours to rise, then you use it within two weeks, leaving it in the fridge until you want to bake it. (One important thing, make sure the container does not have a tight fitting lid. It WILL pop off! LOL)

    Country Bob,

I have not heard anything special on the size of the thumper. I would think it matters more the size of the lines coming off the thumper and the speed you plan to run the still. If the lines are to small, you can build up a back pressure and blow up, to small and they do not condense as well. Similarly, you could have a perfect size thumper, but when you run the pot to hot, it puts out more then the thumper can handle.
Design the thumper well with some room for error. Have a safety on the top with a very small weight to keep it from blowing off. If it starts to leak out the safety, turn down the pot some. I have used a small canning jar from a 3 gallon pot before. It seems to have worked just fine. You should be able to use that size comparison for building up.
The bakers yeast will have some flavour differences then brewers yeast. It will work fine. You will get less after taste when you ferment at a lower %. Keep us updated.

  • DIY Mortgage Acceleration   14 years 26 weeks ago

Wow, thank you so much, Julie. I just stumbled upon your excel spreadsheets - they were very useful for me to analyze my options. I'm already making extra monthly principal payments and contemplating a refinance to a lower interest rate (and then continuing my same accelerated monthly payments with more of the amount going to principal). None of the "cookbook" website calculators could handle that type of comparison, but with some adjustments, your spreadsheet helped me quantify the difference the refi would make for me in terms of both time and money savings. THANK YOU!!

I like to take photos of the flowers in the garden or do some vegetable planting. It keeps me busy and after few months, I would be able to harvest and eat fresh.

I love the time you put into this reply and how thoughtful it is. Thanks! It was incredibly helpful. But why did you have to ruin it with your quote "those who can't teach"? Some of us like teaching whether we can or can't run a business (I run a business on the side as well). Out of the rich friends and relatives I have one used to be a teacher just like me. Just to agree with you though, of all the rich people I know they have all gotten that way from running their own businesses.

Read a book or browse the internet. When you have free time, might as well make use of it for additional learning, so you don't spend money, you only gain knowledge.

  • Remove Car Dents Quickly and Cheaply   14 years 26 weeks ago

Holy crap so much arguing about liquid carbon dioxide. Regardless of if co2 can exist as a liquid in a can, the propellant is what you are spraying, and I know it used to be freeon. Now it might be propane, or green gas, but either way I'm pretty sure the liquid is not co2.

  • 15 Frugal Ways to Battle Boredom   14 years 26 weeks ago

A really easy way to erase boredom is to start a website or blog. It can be a fun way to express your opinions and be creative. You can keep it private or make it really social. You can connect with old friends or remain anonymous. Plus with powerful vehicles like Wordpress it is really easy to design for young and old. For me the hobby has expanded into a business and I do not regret it one bit. I am no longer bored and always learning something interesting. Maybe one day I'll start making money too.
