I am surprised at the omission of Rice Bran Oil, one of the few oils that does not form trans fat (far worse for one's heart and cardiovascular health than saturated fat) when heated to smoke point. Yes, it is a little pricier (about 30% more expensive here in Western Australia) than the cheap canola oil and blended vegetable oils, but what price one's health? I just use far less (I use a pump spray and lightly spray my pans, instead of pouring) for better results.
My resolution is to save another $600 on our only income, unemployment insurance, if my husband or I don't find a job. If one of us do, then I want to save even more.
I only ended up with about 1 full mason jar of good diluted 40%, I read were I can put a few spoon fulls of activated carbon in it, shake it about once a day and filter out in around a week.
Well I did EXCEPT I did not wash/boil/clean my carbon, so when I added it I assume all the dust turned it a cloudy gray. It was crystal clear 149% before I added my distilled water to it, it then turned a milky color after dilution.
I tried several runs through 2 coffee filters and it helped a little bit but nothing like I thought I would get.
My question is:
Can I or Should I put the whole jar back (filtered) in with my batch that I will distill this Sat. and run it again? Is there a way to clean it up without rerunning it?
My goal is to pay off debt - I can only do that if I am frugal and also get a little job somewhere making some money to pay off the debt faster... at least that is my plan.
I live in Reno, NV and I have found that recently in the last year or two the thrift stores are spraying everythin in the store especially cloths blankets and pillows everything fabric, with I think it is fabreeze or a spray on fabric deoderizer. I can't handle the smell. In fact it hurts my lungs and gives me headaches that take days to get rid of.
I would truely like to find a way to campagne against this tactic. BUT so far I only go in for a little while. and Escape. It is poisonious. TO ME and anyone with asthma or lung problems.
BUT if I do buy I have a couple of ways to get the odors out, I wash the soak the cloths in soda and viniger, I sometimes have to do this twice, so I have started to soak them over night the second time. It works, but if they go crazy with the spray I have to do it more than once. I take that into concideration when I ma buying it. Will it hold its apeal to me after a few washings.
Because I am finding they are also spraying the books and kitchen ware no, I have found that putting a bowl of bleach in a small closet and setting them in there with the bleach and letting the bleach smell permeat the air for a few days it gets rid of most of the smell.
I bought a togo cup with a stainless steal lineing that they had sprayed and I never got the smell out of it.
Now the whole stores smell of the chemical of what ever it is they are using. As soon as I walk in I can smell it. I want to find out how to stop this. Does anyone know how to help.
But I love thrif store shopping, and hope I am not going to have to quit.
Wow - these are great! I am particularly loving 'Leave a Text Instead of a Voicemail Message' - this is so true for me. It takes so much more time to listen to a voicemail message plus you have to have a pen or paper handy to write everything down. I think I need to change my message! I am also looking forward to investigating Boomerang. I have thought Outlook as needed a 'schedule later' function for years! Why they still don't I have no idea. Thanks for such great tips! I will be sharing!
Last quarter, I had a string of careless mishaps that caused me to buy replacements for items I broke or lost. I'm usually not that careless and these items weren't expensive to replace, but still. My financial resolution for 2012 is to be more mindful of my things so they can last and/or not get lost or damaged.
This does include however that some airlines have fuel surcharges on top of taxes. For example, British Airways will charge $2100 and 100,000 for two people to fly on miles to the UK because there is a $390 fuel surcharge per passenger on top of the taxes.
Virgin Atlantic will charge $1500 for the same mileage.
I have been using baking soda and apple cider vinegar exclusively for the past 4 months, and I will also never go back! My hair is so much happier now. It is fuller, stronger, silkier, shinier than it ever was with other products, bar none! My grey hairs are disappearing, my ends are resisting the splits, and I have never had such tangle free hair. I can brush it through when wet, if necessary, but I can also fall asleep on the couch with wet hair, and the ensuing rat's nest when I wake up comes out without any trouble at all.
I have long, fine hair, and I do not wash my hair every day. Of course, I also don't shower every day, unless I have been sweating more than usual. Because my hair is so fine, and so straight, I worried at first how the baking soda would work, but it actually feels as though my hair has become a little thicker. Crazy, I know, but everyone I know agrees with me. And I keep getting people to touch my hair because it is so very soft. I have converted my kids, and while my husband has tried it; his hair is longer than mine, but he has been unable to get the scalp massage just right, but he will keep trying. The kids have succeeded and have the softest hair they've had since the first ever-so-soft baby hairs.
I bought 32oz of liquid malt when I first started from my local brew shop but was unsure on what kind of recipe to use it in, can you point me in the right direction for a recipe? Can I just add this to a sugar only recipe as you said above for flavor?
This year I will NOT use a credit card for any non-emergency purchases so as not to incur any more debt while I pay down my existing balance. I also want to add to my savings.
I did a post about it, but this is the gist of it:
Pay off $10K in debt, tithe each and every paycheck, get rid of timeshare, reread Total Money Makeover (for motivation) and cut up my one despised credit card.
Brian- not sure, but I'd guess you should (boil the meal). But, even still, you only have corn starch....not corn sugar. So, enzymes or acid is needed. This is the downside of making a "grain run". It starts to get a little complex, and may not make a lot of sense, financially (and that's the point here), to do a small run. If one is going for pure value....and that's the idea, water/sugar/yeast is probably the way to go. You can still age in oak if you really must. Otherwise, it's a mixer. Move to grains for fun if you get bored.
I am in SE Texas, not far from sea level I am sure. MTNCITY brought up a good point, if all I did was ferment the sugar would that matter? I used corn meal but not sure, I have read on the net of similar temps but not sure waht is correct being this is my first run.
What temp do you stop taking for your drinking? I know your suppose to go by taste but I am not to that pont yet. I still have alot of stuff that I think are the tails - cut at 204 and another one at 207 but thery were still crystal clear, even the 207 burned very clear and blue. At this poinit I will add it to the batch I run this weekend unless other wise told.
My run did not start getting milky until 210-211, there was a big diff in the color and smell from 207 to 211. Thanks again guys, your vast knowledge helps the rookies alot!
Yeah, writing down your big wins is good practice for work, but I think it's also good practice for the point above -- staying optimistic. Sometimes, when I'm stressed or frustrated, I think it's helpful to be able to remind yourself of how successful you've been or how lucky you are, personally or professionally.
Does anybody have other ways they're planning to be more productive this year?

Interesting - I can't find any published studies that substantiate what you say. Can you offer some links?
