Layer! I only have a handful of winter-only clothes. I have about 5 long-sleeves shirts (good for winter and fall) and 5 white longsleeve shirts. Just add a short sleeve tee or polo over the top and then I can also use my hoodie.
My BEST savings technique. Buy a Carhartt coat (thermal lined). Even paying full price wasn't so bad as it has lasted 7 years and will last at least another 7 (if not longer). It's a work coat so it's built to last and the thermal lined is so warm I could wear it with only a short sleeve shirt and be fine.
I'm very happy that arriving late is #1 on this list. Since I've moved to LA, I've been especially sensitive to tardiness (this being the traffic capital of all things as it is). Hurray for punctuality!
This year I am going to make do with just wearing what I already. If I would have really needed new items I would wait for sales and a coupon to go with it at the local department store.
I have used toothpaste on my CDs for years, with moderate success. But recently my kid's Xbox games keep getting scratched and the toothpaste isn't working anymore. I found the furniture polish tip and I am giving that a try. Whether it works or not, I will come back and give an update...
The saveonenergy site is a pretty good starting point. They don't have all the info tho, so sometimes you have to dig deeper and get quotes from actual energy retails. The saveonenergy site is really thourough about data from Canada though, if you live there.
These are all really great ideas, there's nothing better then receiving a personal gift from a friend or family member that is out of the ordinary and even beneficial to others. A year long magazine subscription is a really good idea, this is something that will make a loved one remember you every month all year long. But my very favorite "gift that keeps on giving" is the idea of giving someone perrenial flowers which they can plant and enjoy every year in their garden. Not only do flowers your home look nice, but they bring inner joy when you see them bloom in the spring. My grandmother used to give perrenial flowers to family members, and now that shes gone we all still get to enjoy them every year and remember her with happy thoughts.
Very cool! I knew that clothing stores usually got new clothes in on Thursday's, but I was unaware that each day of the week had special deals on different items. It makes sense that grocery prices fall on Sundays because this is when most mother's have time to get to the store and plan for the week ahead. These are great tips for anyone to keep in the back of their mind, who knows how much money you could save annually if you follow these rules for when to buy!
I buy a good quality, well made coat that will last longer than 5 years in a classic style & neutral colour. I don't play into trends with outerwear because it's a big ticket item & I don't want it to go out of style, but I do have quite a few fun coloured scarves so the coat doesn't look boring & drab. And then I take care of that coat buy bringing it to the dry cleaners before I store it away for the summer.
Also, if I'm not in dire need of a winter coat I'll wait until spring when the coats are on sale.
Yeah, I like the idea of wine of the month club (and how you called it 'food'!). It definitely facilitates people finding wines that they wouldn't buy in a store - since lots of people shop based on the label alone, haha.
It really is amazing that shopping by day can have such a difference, but I have seen it. I guess if everybody starts flocking to the low-cost days, that will eventually either even things out or push the low-cost days around.
I buy very little winter clothing. Instead I buy clothes that can be worn year round and then chose a basic coat/jacket from my closet that I have owned for years over my outfit.
We shop at thrift stores! We find very nice items that are brand name, like new. Adding a few pieces like this to our wardrobe, we can make new outfits with what we already have. I just found a new pair of Clark shoes that I can wear to work. They were less than $5 & are beautiful!

I live in Europe and have not found Witch Hazel for sale. I do have a bottle that expired in 2004. Is it still usable?
Thank you.

Wow, that sounds like a really good deal!
That sounds like a great strategy! :)

We are really quite fortunate with our weather here in Southern California, aren't we? :)
I have cut the top out of 2 liter soda bottles, buy some tomato seeds, and plant them in there for a year round garden.
Love that! Always avoid paying full price! :)

On #9) If you are able to get a cheaper gas or electric rate, you can save oodles. You have to be in a state that is deregulated though. Here is a map: http://www.oracleconsultinggroup.com/energy-deregulated-states-/

magazine subscriptions are great and you can sometimes find them for $2 at deal sites.
I like the cooking classes idea!

Anyone have ideas on when it's best to buy and sell on ebay?

Awesome suggestions. I think the best thing about staycations is that it's affordable to do them more often. Here's to more fun weekends at home!

I love making things from my old clothes. My kids think I'm crazy but I think I'm frugal.
