I recently dry-shaved... the worst decision of my life. I woke up in the middle of the night feeling like my legs were on fire. It was god awful. Never again will I make such a mistake. So I ran downstairs to the kitchen after some helpful googling, and pulled out the milk. I used a paper towel to rub it all over my legs. It did work, but only providing temporary relief, because after I went back up stairs, the burn returned. Long story short, I ended up using witch hazel, and it is a miracle product indeed. All redness and irritation was gone in a matter of minutes. In fact, it even provided results within the first few seconds. Witch hazel is a must-have astringent - a staple for miscellaneous bodily malfunctions.
My niece makes homemade cranberry tarts for Thanksgiving and it's easily my favorite side item on the Thanksgiving table. She is 16 and has been doing it for several years, and swears it is not hard or expensive to make.
My favorite Thanksgiving comfort food is green bean casserole. In my day-to-day cooking, I try to avoid a lot of processed foods, but I cannot give pass this dish up on the holidays. My mom makes it with French cut green beans, which somehow makes it even tastier.
These are really good points. I've actually been going through a big pantry purge so that I can figure out what I already have on hand before I try to make more frugal moves. I'm finding that I have a huge stockpile of miscellaneous stuff that I had forgotten about.
One good Thanksgiving budget dish for me are day after cookies, base for the cookie is the same as an oatmeal chocolate chip, but made with a swirl using leftover cranberry sauce.
NEVER BOIL WATER IN PYREX IN THE MICROWAVE!!! NEVER!!!!! Because of the way a microwave heats and the nature of pyrex glass (no imperfections) water heats to well beyond the 'boiling point' in the microwave (in pyrex) When you open the door and it is exposed to the air temp outside of the microwave, It can 'explode' causing extreme burns. This is serious- research it if you doubt me but Please- NEVER HEAT WATER IN PYREX IN A MICROWAVE- IT IS VERY DANGEROUS!!!
That sounds great. I would love a job like there, since I'm an early riser myself. Also, being able to avoid rush-hour traffic would be a huge plus. What type of work do you do?
I don't know about the other ones but from working in the plant care industry for several years the last thing I would do is put mayo on the leaves just to shine them up. Not only are you clogging all the pores on the leave but you are introducing an item that will spoil which could introduce rot you will draw pests to the plants which could spread and basically ruin all your house plants.
If you want shiny leaves use a soft cloth and some warm (not too hot) tea. Most tropical house plants are acid loving and they will enjoy this as well as having the warm tea soften and spread the natural oils on the leaves to shine them and make them healthier.
Do not do this on succulents (jade tree etc.) or fuzzy leafed plants (african violet) as they don't like the acidity.
Yep. It can be costly to live frugally as well if not careful. Just because something is on sale doesn't mean you need to stock up on large quantities. You still need to purchase other items which will only run up the total. Homemade soups and stews is a good basic but vegatables out of season can be costly. Check out frozen veggies. That way you will be able use them at anytime instead of wasting fresh veggies. There are numerous other ways to be frugal as the following posts suggest.
Chris: The ART of LINE DRYING has a few tricks. For towels, before you hang them give them a few snapping shakes to free the nap from the rest of the towel. Then, TAKE THEM OFF THE LINE when about 80% dry, snap/shake them again and finish drying inside, over a clothes horse, or the back of a chair. Still a little stiff, but not sandpaper. Remember, your grandma didn't have a clothes dryer and everyone survived!! LOL
Right now I'm a homemaker, so I love not having to commute and essentially being my own boss. But the biggest perk is being around my dog all day which is great for the both of us since we get play and walk breaks!
Mogi I feel is a SCAM! Had a bad experience where they promised to refund all my money if I cancelled. They do not return calls and promise to do so, then you can never get back in touch with them. I never dealt with anyone as bogus as this company in my life!!
It is learning to find that happy medium that can be the hardest part. At times it seems sustainable to only eat 3 week old leftovers and other things of the like, but the reality is that this is not sustainable. At the same time, splurging on Starbucks a couple times a week may be a tad unsustainable as well. Though, if sustainability [ie the long term] is the aim, then there is a great chance of eventually being able to craft that frugal lifestyle.
I agree on the idea of the journey -- it's a great way to approach any eating changes (or any life changes, really!). When I started eating healthier a couple of years ago, first it was a couple of salads a week...then only making bread with whole wheat flour...and so on.
Living frugally is not as negative as it sounds..It just means bringing some course adjustments to your life to make it more meaningful

My favorite Thanksgiving budget dish is mashed potatoes. I make them with sour cream and chives.
I love stove top stuffing!ia
How did you pay 100K in interest in 7 years, yet it was just a "modest" home.
I prefer smaller live quarters but I love having a large outdoor space. Larger lots usually tend to have a larger house. I have to comprise.
Becoming a mommy. :)

does brand name matter? what about high fat vs low fat?
these are the questions that uninquiring minds are too lazy to inquire about

That's definitely a huge benefit of being able to work from home. I love being able to spend all day with my dog! :)
That is a really awesome perk!

Great idea on how to transition into a healthier eating lifestyle!
