I just bought a new laptop and now I can keep up with all these blogs. Being able to go anywhere with a laptop is awesome. Maybe I should have invested in the next best thing better than laptop? Ok, so I'm a little behind.........
The rent one is complete and utter BS. It depends on where you live and what you want out of life?I think a more specific post on rent/buying would be only but a house you built yourself or don't buy an old house. Or something. But blanketly saying buying a house over renting just doesn't cut it anymore.
I was a miserable homeowner with a falling apart house. Now I pay less rent than I did mortgage for more space in a house where everything works and is energy efficient. Happy renter who can now save all that repair and stress money for my kids' education. Smartest financial decision I ever made.
These are great suggestions! I usually keep my paper in a big pile on top of my filling cabinet. I keep urgent things in a pile on my desk until I've done what I need to, then they move to the big pile on the filling cabinet. I've lost a few bills with this process. It definitely is not perfect.
First of all, you've got some solid information here; pretty informative, but some things I doubt people will need are a touch screen for a desktop computer. It's just not a huge thing to a lot of people. I do agree with Raina about Dell though, horrible computers and laptops. Awful service as well. Also the hard drive info section isn't that large, most people would probably love something around 500gb minimum to 1tb or even 2tb for storage alone, considering the size of video, music, picture and standard document files these days. In all fairness though, I think your recommendation for people to build their own PC is spot on, except for the Dell part. Go to newegg.com or something and get things for a much cheaper price and do it yourself (or have a buddy/family member do it). 4gb of ram is very standard to see in most any PC these days with about a 500gb HDD. The CPU section is kind of lacking, but people should consider a Core i3 or i5 from Intel since they are fairly inexpensive (compared to the i7) and much better than current AMD processors.
It's great for drying out wet shoes. Sometimes I go for long runs and get caught in the rain. A few hours of newspaper stuffed inside (might have to change it once or twice depending on the wetness) and dry as a bone. Great list!
I held onto a real estate investment after the housing dropped and decided to rent it out for 7 years. Fortunately, housing rose and I was able to sell it for a nice profict that sent my child to college.
This may sound lame, but the best investment I've ever made is my cats. I work from home, and I work long hours so at times I am basically a hermit. They provide companionship and playing with them helps break up the day a bit. :)
Look, we all need extra money now days. The economy has NEVER been more screwed up The MORE informed you are before you try to sell your gold and silver, the MORE you’ll get for it. Knowledge is king! I will tell you right up front; NEVER take your gold and silver to a pawn Shop.
All I can say is this. Americans pull your money OUT OF BIG BANKS.....they have screwed us royally!!!! Take your money out of Citibank, Bank of America, Chase, Wells Fargo.....run to your local bank and deposit the money there instead. When you get a chance to re-finance do it with a local bank or credit union. . Stop feeding these corporate monsters!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THEY DON"T CARE!!! You give them your entire life savings, month after month, year after year, and the next day it's gone. STOP SUPPORTING BIG BANKS!!! They stole our money, they stole the governments money, they control your interest rates. Let's make our local banks strong. Local banks support local causes and help your local community.....
My mom jumped onto the couponing crazy a few months ago. It's one thing to save money with coupons, it's another to buy forty cans of spaghetti sauce just because they're going to be four cents each.
I'm a broke college kid out on my own. It's frustrating to me and other people who use coupons to buy one item to go into the store and the item has been completely wiped from the shelf.
Though, I had found that trips to visit my mom now end with her shoving bags of groceries into my hands because she's running out of room for her collection. Maybe we should all just make friends with the extreme couponers and get our groceries that way? ;D
The best investment I ever made was getting good grades in high school so I could get scholarships. Hopefully I will be able to finish my college degree debt free!
My best investment was moving an hour away from home to work for ohio state university. They pay for my college and have a great psychiatric hospital with great employees.
Thanks so much!!
I find that the more I am a stickler to the plan, the more frazzled I become. That's why I leave an hour unplanned to cater for those things I have to play catch up on - I'm happy that I have a reserve hour and this allows me to finish up my to-do-list most of the time...
I think the 'make it automatic' comment is very valid and has helped me get to financial freedom. By this statement, I take this as paying the debt automatically from your account, so you know its gone in as soon as you get paid.
I have always automated any regular payments to bills, by making small payments to bills each time I get paid. By the time the bill rolls around- its paid off and I don't get slugged with a 'oh no, where am i going to get $500 from' type of month.
I automatically pay my bills, my mortgage, and my savings (offset of my mortgage to pay it down quicker) so that the money I have left, while smaller in size, is left for food, other necessities and any miscellaneous spending that comes up. I think that this is the way to go for reducing the risk of missing bill / mortgage/ ccard payments.
Yes. We have red cross bug-out bags, and canned cooked food for a week. And the usual flashlights/batteries, etc. But I do not have a bag of personal clothing ready, nor something fast to grab that holds vital documents like birth certificates, etc.
I watched the video with the guys with english accents and looks to me that they didn't follow the directions. The can was supposed to be upside down when sprayed. Also they were using it on a dent on the edge of a wheel well where there is a crease.
This week I'm looking at 10 cans of beans for $6.00 with a $3.00 off coupon. So $0.30 cans of beans (and same deal with diced/stewed tomatoes). They are a regular staple in our home so I will probably be looking to get 20 cans or more per day for the next 5 or 6 days. I know its not much in the grand scheme of things (almost pathetic really), but we try to squeeze every penny and we will feel more secure here knowing we have all that great healthy protein, carbs, and fibre in our cupboard.

I use newspaper in my cat box instead of litter.

Ah... you have cleaning windows... but you should try newspaper for cleaning mirrors, too. It works beautifully - I never do it any other way :)
I have one of those annoying summer colds right now, and I'm drinking hot water with lemon and honey. So nice!
Me too! I try to wake up two hours before work to do yoga, write, and get other things accomplished. I feel much more balanced when I do that.
Oooh, peanut chips? Is that like crushed peanuts? Or like chocolate chips? Or something else entirely?
Thanks for the heads-up, Vinnie! I've updated the article.

It's the simplest ideas that so often are the best.
I was just telling my husband how I really don't like checks. I can't stand if someone doesn't cash it right away!!

Wonder if that is why it didn't work?
