One of my biggest wastes as a college freshman was putting too many meals on my meal plan -- I quickly realized it was a lot cheaper (and easier!) to keep yogurt and cereal in my room for breakfast.
(Best Advice) Find something you love to do and find a way to get paid for it.
(Great Advice) You attitude determines your outlook. No matter what job you have, do it with a great attitude and great thankfulness.
I met someone this weekend with a job most would consider "not so great", but she had the most wonderful attitude I have ever encountered. She was the breakfast buffet lady at a hotel I stayed at for 2 days and both days she was kind, thoughtful, caring, and concerned for all her guests, even coming around to hand out mints to each person compliments of the hotel. She was an older lady, probably in her 70's, but really took her job seriously and made the best impression on her guests. Lynda, of Tennessee, I salute you!
My smartest investment was to develop a daily meditation practice. It took some time to learn enough to have a productive practice, but the daily effort has yielded a much more focused, yet relaxed and sustainable approach to my personal life and business.
If you are considering a viatical settlement or canceling your policy early, consult with a trusted advisor first. This is especially true if you are older or have a policy with significant cash value. There are really a lot of factors that need to be carefully considered before making a decision as important as selling or canceling your life inusrance.
I would be interested to know where the relationship between the author and Amazon is now. I am a small time seller selling my used photography gear as I trade up. I have only had 2 bad customers out of more than a hundred transactions. These two customers, the dollar amount's at issue, and Amazon's crazy unilateral and arbitrary enforcement of its policies caused me to call it quits and encourage others to do the same.
I detailed my situation here: http://blog.dassaro.com/2011/08/24/amazon-seller-nightmare-part-i/ in a three post series (so far). In short, Amazon admits that the customer bought the item from me to borrow it (e-mail is posted in Article II I think) and now wants her money back. How crazy is that? Amazon even told me that customers can file chargebacks 90 days later and keep the product and get a refund from the seller.
Anyway, I am duking it out with Amazon and even have an attorney onboard. I would caution people from selling on Amazon.
Find something you love to do and get paid for it. LOL That is what my dad told me. He also told me that I should always give my very best no matter what and that it is easier to find a job when you HAVE a job...all good advice.
I shop for most of my clothes in second hand stores, consignment shops and etsy (live in a rural area without many shops). I love the savings and the random interesting pieces sometimes almost new that I find. BUT I splurge on good quality leather shoes. Always.
1. Chances of discovering "battery acid" is pretty slim since most batteries that size are alkaline nowadays. In the production of a battery, or more correctly a "cell", you are usually only able to attain a maximum of 3.7V (lithium ion or lithium polymer). Anything above that, including 12V A23 batteries are true "batteries" consisting of multiple cells. I have never done this, but it is perfectly believable. 2. Maybe it is people who think they know everything about everything that we will discover on the Darwin Awards.
This summer my family & I took a trip thru several states. i planned the route, noted what cities we would be going thru and then went to the web. 1st site i visited was Restaurant.com where i picked up several $25. gift certificates under $5 each (some were only $2 each!!!) Next Budget travel for articles on cities we were going thru to save on rooms, eatting etc... Then Backpacker for the same, plus great tips for traveling light. Entertainment.com books for cities you want to stay for awhile can really save. By useing some of these websites, i only spent a little over $500.00 total (gas, food, lodging, entertainment, etc..) for a 8 day trip.
You should wake up and look forward to going to work. - My Dad
So I left my cubicle and started my own company with a friend. It's been a lot of work, a lot of up and downs. But, it's been exciting and I look forward to going to work every day. Thanks for the advice dad!
Newspaper is very absorbant - so use it first when mopping up spills rather than paper towels. It is also a good insulator & I have read about people putting under their carpets in the winter - or under their mattresses - to keep out the chill. (Could also be used to help out blankets??) Oh, & if you ever have to use a running toilet (African for pooping in a plastic bag) - use newspaper at the bottom to absorb you-know-what...And what about those newspaper trees they used to make when we were kids? Use to swat flies & other insects, too - & line the bottom of your garbage pails with it! & you could make temporary insoles for your shoes using newspaper - the heavier ad sections could also make good covers for small paperback books.
Do something that you love, not something for the almighty dollar. Even so, when you near the end of your life, you will never think, "I sure wish I'd spent more time at work."
The best bit of advice I got was, "If you can type quickly, don't tell anyone." Especially if you're a woman. Focus on showcasing the skills you want to use more often.
The worst investment was a house I bought, flipped, and carried the paper. Then I forclosed when the buyer stopped making payments.
The buying, selling, and foreclosing processes all cost money. Then when I got it back I invested a bunch of money in it to fix it up. It's actually worth less than what I originally paid for it. I have thrown about a $100,000 down that hole. However it is a nice mountain cabin and I stayed there over Labor Day and enjoyed it. So a bad investment has turned into at least a nice vacation home.

No matter where you work, no matter what your job, work like you own the company.

I'd say it is my current car. It's lasted longer than any other car I've had and hasn't had any trouble. It's been a great ride!

Excellent suggestions, Pam. Thanks for contributing!

"Silence is agreement" , if you dont speak up your just agreeing with everyone around you.
During many years in the corporate world, the 2 best pieces of advice ever received were:
1) document, document, document
2) always cover your a**
The advice I was given was "do more than you're asked to do". Going the extra mile does make a difference in the eyes of those that work above you.
Do something that you love, not something for the almighty dollar. Even so, when you near the end of your life, you will never think, "I sure wish I'd spent more time at work."
