I have to be honest. Every time I read an article like this I tend to cringe a little. I mean freezing leftovers is one thing but to make that your plan to start? Would you go to a restaurant and pay for food that was frozen and thawed out? Of course not and you shouldn't. The best solution to not having time to cook a fresh delicious and healthy meal is to make it a priority and learn to enjoy the process. If every american family spent a half an hour more a day cooking and a half an hour less watching TV we'd all be much happier and healthier.
Kalyn's Kitchen has a great recipe for Egg Muffins (South Beach friendly, and adapted from that original recipe). Can be frozen and popped into the microwave each morning. My teenage son likes them too.
@Kate: What you need is a good, heavy sleep sack for a baby. GroBag's 2.5 tog ones are wonderful, and they go up to like 3T in sizes. My son sleeps happily in one over a pair of good cotton pajamas. They're expensive, but you only need one or two for as long as your child wears that size.
I was fired by phone message(I have the recording) for a theft of documents that I did not take. I called back and he said maybe you didn't but pick up your last check and turn in you uniforms on Tuesday,(this was Friday) I said I guess I'll file for unemployment, he said go for it you'll never get it I've got all the documentation I need on you, you'll never get it. Then he hung up on me. Naturally I didn't know what he was talking about. I filed for unemployment and had the phone interview telling them all of this. I was approved then I receive a letter telling me he is appealing. Now I find out what documentation he's talking about, performance reviews writing me up for uniforms not up to standards after being warned of immediate termination. I never seen these reviews before and had no knowledge of them. During the phone appeal I told the Judge they didn't fire me for anything but theft, that I have the recording and she just said but you didn't submit that did you? All I could say was no. I didn't think to ask to play it for her. She disqualified me for benefits. Now I have to ask a appeals board to review and can I submit the recording. The other issues including uniforms, they brought up had been agreed upon and long standing procedures they allowed right up till I complained about a coworker being late a lot.
Thanks for a great article! I've been cutting coupons for several months now, and the savings, while nowhere near yours, is significant. I have a few questions though. I've seen coupons offered online and most of the time you have to download coupon printing software to get them. Is the software safe? I'm very cautious about what I download. Is the software the same for all or most of these sites, or do you have to download a new one for each site? And finally, is it worth it? Are there enough savings in online coupons to make it worth the download and the effort? If anyone can help me out on this I would reallly appreciate it! Thanks!
Thank you so much for adding the frugal storage solutions article to your links this week. It means so much! I can't wait to read some of these other great articles. You always have such fabulous round-ups!
Personally, I love Aldi because it's really hard to "go wild" in there with the grocery money! There's only one kind of everything. I know the aisles, I know the brands, I know exactly what's consistently good and what's not. I can zip through in twenty minutes or less, and I'm outtie with a week or more in groceries for $50. I find I shop more with coupons that I do without, so I only "coupon" for things that can't be found at Aldi.
However, when I go to Kroger or WalMart, there's so much choice that I can't process all of it and am confounded into spending so much on things I can get down the road at Aldi for much, much less. Also, I get sidetracked by duct tape or pens or underwear or greeting cards...
When shopping Aldi, don't lose your sense. Read the ingredient labels. I get wonderful cereals, excellent frozen green beans, whole chickens and great deals on vegs and fruit (that usually must be eaten within a day or two). I am worried that it's not the healthiest food, that it's not organic (although I'm seeing more of that at Aldi now), but when it's a choice between utilities or gasoline or groceries, it's survival mode, baby.
I have a friend that wanted to get a corolla. The day before he was about to go to the dealership to see if he could get a new car they released the statement that they were no longer selling them. I guess it's a good thing he didn't buy it.
To use the Internet on these netbooks, must you still get a Internet provider or just link to whatever wifi is available. I'm planning to purchse one for my girlfriend and was wondering if she would be stuck with a monthly Internet bill? Forgive me if this question has already been posed.
One of the best ways from preventing yourself from spending too much is to go into the store with a set list. Don't be tempted as you walk through the ailes, grocery stores are designed to tempt you! This can actually make grocery shopping a whole lost faster as well, get in and get out.
I have been using the netspend "PRE-PAID" credit card since 2002. This is the first I have ever heard anyone complaining about a "PRE-PAID credit card. If you get one and you didn't order it, just throw it away, burn it, or even shred it. Like netspend said, its not activated until you put money on it. I run a business, all my employees have either a bank account that I put their checks into or one of these "PRE-PAID" credit cards by netspend. For 8 yrs now, not one of my employees complain about the card. They say its better to use this card in stead of credit card by a bank, you won't have any over draft fees, and no monthly or annually fees. The card can used either as a credit card or a debit card. Gotta go now, just a reminder that netspend is a "PRE-PAID" credit/debit card.

This article is great as I am always searching for ways to cut down on my spending. And you're right, we could start by just trimming off of our budgets. I live in a house with two other people and realized mid year of 2009 that I was spending over $500 a month on food...and we don't even cook much!
The tip about the generic brands is great. I have learned though that if you coupon right that you can save a lot more through buying name brand IF it's on-sale and you have a coupon that doubles or triples.
Checking to see if your local grocery store doubles or triples coupons is often the first step. Then you grab your Sunday paper and look online for coupons of items that you use. By comparing the sales to the coupons that you have--you can often buy name brand and save a TON of money.
I list freebies, samples, coupons on my blog all of the time if anyone is interested at Frugal Francines Money Blog
Not if you have 4 large dogs. Who are protective of their owner. Im pretty sure no one in their right mind would break into a house with barking dogs. Thats a deterent in itself. If they do actualy decide to break in and are intent on hurting me my dogs would attack. They are not trained to do so but If someone just goes to hit me they get angry. So your statement is not neccesarily true all dogs are different, just like people they react differently in all situations. So the mythbuster thing was not very accurate.

They don't want you in debt, they just want you to spend. They don't care if you save a dime.
Your husband is gambling on the internet. That's the reason to apply for one of these cards.
NBA 2k5 is now working! That gum tip works great! And the game was a PS2 game

Dang. My mom just got a Corolla. If she'd waited a while, she'd be able to get the repaired post-recall Corollas at a good discount.
The problem seems to be a part that seizes up when it gets worn down.
I bet a squirt of WD40 would fix it.
Also, there's this problem with floor mats grabbing the accelerator - so remove the floor mat until T gives you a better one.

I just opened my email shortly after my girlfriend and I were discussing how to improve our spending habits. This just supports it.
Thanks for highlighting my article on the costs of having sick kids. I'm so ready for the winter (and flu season) to be over!
Michele, how wonderful to hear from someone in the know.
Kerrvert, thanks for the ammonia tip.
Q, I wish I had come up with that last line! Fantastic. -M.

You don't see any negative consequence from this expansion of the money supply?
