I have been a Librarian for 15 years and would not advise anyone to enter this career if they are looking for a good-paying full-time position. There are fewer every day. In our library, as the baby boomer librarians are retiring, their jobs are becoming part-time. Raises are limited to 2% per year with NO advancement opportunities. Get a masters' degree in an IT field, instead. It will pay better and there are more jobs available.
My favorite hobby is string art- I keep costs low by using coupons, and using every last bit of material that I can, and I make money off of it by selling on etsy!
Shout out for libraries, everyone should go visit their local library! There are so many great FREE resources. I agree with the fact that it's a great career choice, but electronic media has absolutely NOT hurt the library, it's just changed a lot of aspects of collection management. And libraries have been offering movies for patrons to borrow for at least the last 25 years. ;)
On the "organic" food: I'm happy that you are "healthy as an ox." I hope that your belief that "the damage by preservative- and pesticide-packed foods has already been done; I hardly believe that switching to organic fruits and vegetables now will change whatever is going to happen to me down the road."
Until several years ago when my body started changing in negative ways I had not given as much thought to the type of foods I was consuming. However, based on articles, and parts of books like "Clean," by Alejandro Junger, M.D. I have read about changes that occurred for people who changed from non-organic to all organic foods I believe there is a difference. If money was no object I would buy all organic too. Until such time I am doing the best with what I can now.
Hopefully, millenials and Gen Xers who need to save more will get the point that: "... wherever I save means extra money for things I like to do, like enjoying new experiences or making investments that make me more money."
Sometimes it takes reading an article like this to help us to begin to shift our paradigms.
My hobby is crochet - but it has to be with scrap yarn donated or acquired by unravelling old sweaters. I also crochet with scrap-fabric yarn which I make from discarded clothing donated from my friends. I cut it into thin strips and twist the fabric strips until they form a yarn which I wind onto a spool.

Rubber stamping/making greeting cards is a fun frugal and useful hobby! FOr over 12 years I have not spent money on birthday christmas wedding cards or any cards at all. A small initial investment in a few stamp sets at your local craft store, a small package of paper and an ink pad are all you need to get started.I use Michael's JOanne's and Hobby Lobby coupons for my supplies but you can find paper and trinkets for embellishments just abotu anywhere.I take coasters from the bar and grill where we and gal pals go for happy hour once in a while.Old sewing notions, postcards you can cut up,etc. can be found at flea markets and yard sales.This also provides a great girl's night out for cheap.Set up card tables and get together for a night of making holiday cards and birthday cards to use all year... THis is just the BEST HOBBY! I hope I win!!!!!!!
Linsey, you are wrong. I just spoke to amazon customer service and they say you can NOT do this. I had a debit visa card with $30. left on it, and wanted to use that as payment and the rest of the amount ($15.00) put on an amazon gift card. They said that is not allowed. They said I MUST use a visa debit with enough to cover the entire charge, or just use the amazon gift card to cover the entire charge. They said you can NOT use both, as they don't allow 2 payment forms for an order. I told them that was ridiculous, and I cancelled the order. That's the problem with these pre-paid debit visa cards, you pay for them in cash, and then loose part of your money because no one will let you use all of the balance. It's all a total scam.
I have a lot of hobbies but entering sweepstakes is my favorite one. My dad always said that's what the IRS would consider it. After that, pottery, reading and sewing.
My husband and I have a credit score over 800 and have had a zero percent credit card for the last 6 months. Also our home loan refi to a 15yr loan was a breeze. They basically gave us the lowest rate possible and ushered us through.
Geocaching! You are only limited by your imagination it seems. Caches are everywhere - some are easy to find and very family friendly, and others take a lot of hunting. Details are listed in the c:geo app. I love it!
I love to shoot archery, which is expensive when you are first getting started, but cheap once you have all your equipment. You can also buy used equipment which is usually just as good as the new stuff.
Spending a weekend afternoon outdoor at the range is of my favorite things to do.
I enjoy sending and receiving postcards just for fun. I like to find interesting postcards whenever I travel or find a place selling interesting postcards. I even joined Postcrossing to exchange postcards with people all over the world and the only fees are the postcards and stamps.

I really like sports and keeping up with what is going on in professional leagues. I also like movies.
