Somebody just hit my car as it was parked outside my house. The car is almost 20 years old and I was planning on replacing it soon anyway. Can I just take the money and put it toward a down payment on a new car? I own my car fully, and it's probably only worth like 800 bucks anyway - even without the damage.
When having to wrap numerous gifts, even for non Christmas occasions, I got a roll of butcher paper one year. One time I got a roll of white, and another time a plain brown roll of paper from a restaurant supply house. I've also used wall paper sample books, etc. for and also fabric for wrapping some smaller gifts. The roll of butcher paper lasted several Christmas seasons, and was a great bargain.
All of these papers can be recycled, and you can either decorate these simply, or leave them plain.
I like your idea of the bottle caps and using raffia. I have used yarn, ribbons, embroidery floss, twine etc. in decorations, and also have simply used color coded dots, the kind from an office supply store, to make a polka dot effect.
Lastly, I'm not sure if this goes along with the theme, but I don't wait till right before a holiday to shop for gifts. I hand craft some gifts, and also purchase one of a kind items from other crafters, potters, etc. year round.
I also sometimes do shop at thrift shops etc. for unusual retro scarves, and these make lovely wrapped gifts for people who appreciate that " retro" look. Sometimes I use fabric that I cut into a circle, and simply tie it at the top as a gift wrap.
My Mother was a thrifty and very creative lady...one year she gave me a gift of origami papers. I have used origami animals to decorate packages as well.
I hope that others read your article...I like the idea of using found and natural materials very much.
Awesome article. I think you hit a lot of these points right on the head. People are so worried about what others think of them they sacrifice their own finances. Why pay to please others when you should be pleasing yourself? Set yourself a SOLID budget and stick to it. You CAN save money you just need to really look at how and why you're spending money. Smart investing is key, happy Saturday everyone!
I guess you could say my goal is to un-career. We are working hard to save so that we can retire early at 55 (4 years). Then my husband and I plan to volunteer in between travels.
I want to be a certified career coach. Right now, I'm currently working on my resumé writing certification, paid with a scholarship! Once certified, I can offer services at a reasonable price through social media marketing, networking and Fiverr. Profits will go towards my official cert as a full-fledged coach! Give me five years, tops.
I am working on the coursework and then the internship (and exam) to become a registered dietitian. I'd like to work as a diabetes counselor and would also love to get involved in research. Somewhere in there I'd like to work on a Master's in the field as well.
I thank you all for posting about the locks of love, I have donated several times. This is very disappointing to know, I was about to do it again, only to find out that they are selling it...I will now just sell my hair or if I find a cancer patient who needs it, I will donate it to that person.
Thank you so much for your thoughts. I definitely agree with you that not one product is to blame. One soda every once in a while is not going to kill you or give you diabetes right away.
However, many people have addictions to soda just as some have addictions to coffee. The overuse of either and the over consumption of sugar and food dyes has been identified to cause problems. Many avid soda drinkers know that their daily drinking habits are not the best for them, but it is hard to cut back. This article is a motivation to help soda drinkers (and even those who drink too much coffee) to cut back and replace their soda love with something healthier and easier on the budget.
Still nothing to do :(
I am currently in a great job with great benefits so my goal at this stage is to work on maximizing these benefits and work toward retirement.
