I've been on food stamps for a few months, and I'm at the point where I won't use them anymore. I would literally rather starve and die than continue feeling so much shame about it.
It's simply not worth it. What kind of life is that?
I have to disagree with using duct tape to hem pants. Don't get me wrong, it works if you have to, but I do alterations on the side and when I have done back to fix hems that have been taped I hate it. The goo from the tape bungs up my machine and makes the hem look crappy. I need a good way to remove it, any suggestions?
No costumes at all this year. Our teenager has decided he's too old for Halloween, and I never understood how this became a holiday for grownups, so I'm not getting one for myself either.
If you're looking for even more happy things, there's a blog that lists a happy thing every day (I think), called 1,000 Awesome Things. There's also a book called "The Book of Awesome" and a sequel called "The Book of Even More Awesome." Just a thought. =]
Hi Nora...sorry to hear about what you're going through. That's so great that you can take stock like this, very healthy. You've inspired me to do the same.
I hope your physical health improves quickly.
As for the blow you've been dealt - yipes. Another thing to be thankful for/happy about is that you are able to have this POV and still see the good of the situation. You are a strong person.
My mom always says, "A person only really needs two things to fix any problem: WD-40 if it doesn't move and it should, Duct Tape if it moves and it shouldn't."
The only thing on this list I haven't used Duct Tape for is as a wart remover, but good to know!
I am from Canada and we use a different measurement there (mmol/l) and I try to find and read as much as I can about my newly diagnosed diabetes and it is rare to find website that express both measurements when talking about glucose levels. It doesn't help me get to information I'm looking for when I have to constantly refer back to the conversion charts to determine what glucose level is being referred to in an article. I would like to suggest that when writing an article like this for the world wide web with world wide diabetes sufferers looking for info, that other measurement systems be taken into account. Thanks, I liked the article and found it useful.
I never heard of the splinter remover idea until now. That's great!
Ironically enough, one of the things that duct tape should not be used for is....sealing ducts. We sealed all of our ductwork in the basement, and it's best to use aluminum tape. You can use duct tape but it will all fall off in a matter of months!
Wow, Im shocked that there was a "challenge" to not turn your heat on until November 1. This is my fourth heating season as a homeowner and not one year have I turned my heat on before November 1. And last year my roommates and I employed a new strategy for saving money on heat.
We kept the house thermostat at 46. Yes, that's right, 46. Then, we bought two 1500 watt oil-filled electric radiators and simply heated each out of respective living spaces and that was it.
Setting my oil furnace to 46 kept the house from freezing and we only heated the rooms we were in which is his bedroom and my basement living room. Worked GREAT! And saved us a TON on using expensive oil.
The only downside is when you venture out to other parts of the house it was very chilly, but this is only done to use the bathroom or kitchen then we go straight back to our individual living areas.
if someone wanted to refinance to lower their monthly liability in case of possible future unemployment they should.
as long as you do not get a loan with prepayment penalties (which i can not fathom why anyone would get such a loan) one could pay all the money they save each month towards principal. It is likely that this extra principal would be more than they were paying before (obviously one should look into such numbers). this would leave them with less mortgage payment each month if something happens to their income, increasing the time savings could last.
i would love to do this but can't because our home isnt worth what we owe. i am hoping this new plan that obama mentioned the other day actually happens.
I started with user testing.com on 10/6/2011. I had Walmart.com too for my test. All went well with the test and I knew I had passed when I received an email of an available test to complete. It is now 10/27 and I have made $110.00 so far. I have had no issues with being paid by paypal.
I think this little job is fun and which I could do it full time!
I got a flu shot too! It was a big deal for me because I am deathly afraid of needles. They are my biggest fear (totally irrational, I know).
You are welcome for the mention! Great article! :)
I ordered my costume from Amazon.com and just received it today.
What about private student loans like Sallie Mae?

Nice list of things that can make us happy. Will definitely try some of it.

I just got the flu shot, ouch!, but I think it's a great idea to do what you can to avoid the flu anyway.
Thanks for the mention too!
I have found that I find the most success by automating as much as possible. From automated banking to what I outsource.
Thanks for the mention Ashley!
