My daughter and I go for walks around the neighborhood, I print a simple list of items I know she can find on our walk. It makes it into a fun little scavenger hunt for her and it helps her with her reading skills at the same time.
I think all of these are good ideas. For me, its all about finding those lunch places that offer like $5-6 lunches and then hold off on the drink. The food is usually pretty good, but the soda/drink is what kills you in the long run. My 2 cents.
One of the best developments of the recent economic catastrophe is the fact that traditional retirement will likely go the way of the dodo bird.
As someone who retired from the corporate world at 32 thanks to extreme frugality I love the idea of having control over my own day. But with that new freedom I must actually DO something engaging. Something that makes we want to be alive.
My father retired at 62 1/2 and walked around the house in circles for six months before creating his next vocation.... cancer patient. He was dead not long after. I am absolutely convinced that he would be alive today if he continued to work -or- if he had something that made him jump out of bed in the morning.
My answer....maybe...may be going to a halloween party, in which case, I kinda have to. But I hate forking over tons of dough for something I will probably wear 1 time
My kids are teenagers now so we're past this, but you really don't have to spend much money keeping them happy and entertained. All you have to do is keep them active and busy and they're good. Spending a lot of money to make that happen is a waste.
Play dates and sleep overs with friends are two other activities they can do without costing anything. When kids get together, they make their own fun.
I agree Moneysaurus. What fed my family of 7 when I was younger seems to be only feeding three of us now. Did you find problems with trying to limit your husband's food portion? This is where I find the most trouble.
I will definitely be buying a costume for my daughter as I'm here on vacation in California and we don't have a good selection of costumes in Ireland :)
Since halloween is a big deal at my company, I bought a few accessories and my mom made the dress for my costume. I tried to keep the costs low and within my budget.
This year I personally am not wearing a costume, but we made my oldest daughter's costume and my younger daughter is wearing one of her sister's old costumes.
No I will not. I saw prices at Target and was floored to see a banana costume going for $50. I will definitely make my own this year and every year after!
I'm re-using last year's costume! I probably buy a new costume every 2-3 years and rotate the ones I have (currently, I have 3) so I can wear a different costume for the - essentially - 3 days of halloween (Friday night, Saturday night, and whatever day Halloween actually falls on).
My daughter is only 13 mos, so she'll be going as a cutie-pie Halloween girlie (i.e. cheapo Halloween t-shirt, black leggings, and a homemade orange & black tutu). Happy Halloween!! :)

No buying! I've been working on sewing our costumes (from The Princess Bride) all month!

Good riddance retirement.

Cooking and baking is also entertaining! You can teach them about nutrition and how to cook at home to save money.
I Like Wise Bread on Facebook

I already like Wise Bread on Facebook.
I did buy a Halloween costume this year. It's my favorite holiday. :)
I'm reusing one of my cosplays as my Halloween costume this year. Pikachu!

No, I don't have the money this month. I'll just pull something together from costumes of halloweens past.
